Are the majority of men incapable of liking someone for their personality first even in a video game? It has to come with a conventionally beautiful (and stereotypically human) face, too? I'm not sure if they're underestimating their male audience or not, considering some of the 'that's ugly, I want a space elf' comments I've seen, and not just in this thread. >_>

Personality helped but let's face it, Tali's got a damned good figure too (I even find the hands and legs attractive). She'd have been less popular if she'd been a volus.Aris Ravenstar wrote...
While I don't think she necessarily has to look turian-like, I agree she's way too human. I feel it was a huge cop-out. We already have an 'alien' race that is just human women with a small cosmetic difference, do we really need -two-?

Well the thing is, her form is human enough to be attractive and yet still distinctly alien. Her face should have been the same.Reorte wrote...

Do you know a lot of people with gypsy space alien lines and blank glowy eyes?

The way they just cut the hand from the original picture in half was stupidly blatant.

Have I met people that with a little SFX makeup could easily have a quarian face? Yup, everyone. If you can do it with contacts and make-up, it's just not good enough. Mass Effect has always had a higher standard for their character design than cheesy Star Trek aliens. Well, aside from the asari.AppealToReason wrote...

Seriously though, does somebody at Bioware have a thing for women with dark hair? Almost every heroine they've done has had dark hair. Lelianna and ME3 Femshep are exceptions to the rule n the latter was only by a vote.

The limbs and body shape is already pretty different from the human norm. I also think the pic shows some kind of, lines or maybe indentations on the face although it could just be face paint; they also have glowing pupiless eyes. TBH everybody wanted Tali to look beautiful n since Bioware vision of beauty is a woman with dark hair thats what we got. Most races in ME are actually quite bestial with the exception of the Asari so if you think of other verses like Star Wars where there are lots of semi-human races it kinda makes sense that another would look quite close to humans. Why not let it be Quarians?

Something in their engine just doesn't lend itself to blond hair. In ME3 it looks awfully green under certain lights. Maybe that could be it?

I think Tali would have been better with some kind of silver hair. Maybe a bit like Daenyrs Targarian off the song of ice and fire (Game of Thrones).

judging from the poorly photoshopped stock photo, tali's face, according to bioware, is pretty much human. if they decided to go that way, then thats fine. i'd accept it and i'd understand that quarians look like humans under their mask. what was wrong about that whole tali picture thing is that they photoshopped a stock image when they could've been more creative and drawn a face for her, based on a model at least. even the photoshop was poorly done which made it worse. i'd havew preferred to not see that picture or see a picture with her mask on. a dA member did a much better photoshop of the same photo which looked more authentic than Biowarez.
That was just one of those incomprehensible decisions Bioware made. Considering you had two games of people specifically saying 'we want to see what Tali's face looks like' I don't know where they got the impression that we only wanted to see a picture. Maybe they hadn't decided and it was a last minute. But still it seemed like such a trite slap in the face. Its not as if the expectation was unreasonable to see a model or animation of the face; I mean they animate every face in the game n for different species.

Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans.
Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids
and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which
include a thumb, an index finger, and a long finger, similar to the
middle fingers for humans, as well as three toes on each foot. Quarian
facial structure and hair actually makes them the most similar to humans
in physical appearance. Their lower legs are bowed backwards
significantly, compared to asari
or humans. Aside from hands and legs, their general body shape and
sexual dimorphism is similar to humans. Their ears or ear analogues
differ in a noticeable fashion from those of humans, with references
made to "what [passes] for the quarian version of an ear".
Not all aliens need to look like monstrous freaks.
It's unrealistic, cheap, generic, stereotypical and racist.
The photoshop was still cheap and generic too, but the idea that all alien life can't look similar to humans is silly and based on stupid stereotypes from crappy sci-fi movies.
Technically it's racist to assume that no matter where in the universe you are, the human form is the pinnacle of evolution, regardless of your environment, habitat and so forth. It's also unrealistic to assume that it'd be the popular form, considering that even the species we evolved from are for the most part more agile and stronger than we are. Our sole benefit over other creatures (beyond our capacity to learn and reason) is our hands.
Our feet are, quite frankly, a mess. The only creature on planet earth (other than the thylacine) that walks on its heels. Every other living and extinct creature walks and runs on its toes (unless not applicable as in the case of primates, who have palms which have their own benefits). Note also that when we are most agile, we have to keep our heels off the ground.
What you seem to be most hung up on is aesthetics. We should only be attracted to our own species (as in, human). It's daft to want every alien race to be sexy and alluring. I get that it's an extension of liking 'exotic' beauty, and I too find blue aliens that look quite like us rather attractive, but the reality is likely going to be much less appealing if there are other sentient beings out there.
I'm not sure what you're even talking about.
I never said Aliens had to look human, I said that the idea that Aliens can't look human is stupid.
Also, Volus are sexy.

Her looking "way too human" was something I was hoping wouldn't happen but happened anyway and in a very disappointing manner. Taking a stock photo and giving it a quick touch-up in Photoshop. Boom, Tali. No.
Haters gonna hate, but this is how I view Tali and the quarians in headcanon. Hoping for a mod that will replace the in-game photo with this image. Kudos to the person that created it.
the problem with this is that it is ugly.
Yes, she's ugly as hell. This is much worse than we already got. But I respect the creators vision, this is his/hers version of Tali, but she's still ugly as hell.
I am sure she cares about what your penis's think about how she looks.
Mine just crawled back up inside of me.

She eats different food, she lives in a bubble suit. She should look more alien like. She should probably look closer to turian since they share digestive systems and have three digits.
Edit: She doesn't have to look terrible. I just want her to be less human than a few lines on her face and a white iris
It's a half-assed, five minute photoshop. What do you expect?

I don't mind this for Quarians but I am fine with Quarians being human-like. It makes sense with all the information the game has given us.
