Her looking "way too human" was something I was hoping wouldn't happen but happened anyway and in a very disappointing manner. Taking a stock photo and giving it a quick touch-up in Photoshop. Boom, Tali. No.

Haters gonna hate, but this is how I view Tali and the quarians in headcanon. Hoping for a mod that will replace the in-game photo with this image. Kudos to the person that created it.

the problem with this is that it is ugly.

Yes, she's ugly as hell. This is much worse than we already got. But I respect the creators vision, this is his/hers version of Tali, but she's still ugly as hell.

Ugly? It's beautiful and exotic. I question your judgement.

It dosen't matter if she looks ugly to us humans, the important thing is that she is definitely alian.

This and I honestly can't understand wtf people think is so ugly about her. She looks beautiful and exotic. And of course, alien. I don't know what caused this jimmy-rustling in the first place, I didn't insult the space-elf or supermodel Tali saying that they look boring. But apparently, my preferred Tali causes mass hatred with more than one person.

I just have a very hard time believing that a creature with a completely different protein structure would look almost identical to a human, save for a different skin pigment.

I question yours my friend, I mean look at that,,,, It looks like if you were to grip and pull hard enough you could pull her whole face off.

Where do you see that? I think it would take about as much as ripping your skull out, or nose.

Because the chirality of amino acids used determines physical appearance? Does anyone who uses this argument know anything about biology?

Quarians and humans have enough physical differences to show that they're alien, they don't need to have radically different facial structures to prove that. And it's about time we see an alien with hair in Mass Effect. Plus, based on what we could see through quarian helmets before, this shouldn't be a huge surprise. Besides the crappy Photoshop job, Tali's appearance is fine.

Well, yeah. I bet it could rip out of your skull too if it wanted to. I still do not see the problem.

Why even show her face if they wasn't going to put more effort into it? Worthless!

What? The only difference is skin pigment? What are you smoking?

Asari are the EXACT SAME as humans except for blue skin and tentacle heads, and as far as I know, Asari aren't mammalian, i.e. no hair.

Quarians, on the other hand, have glowy eyes, ear slits, paler skin, dark body markings, 3 fingers to a hand, 2 toes to a foot, AND raptor legs. That sounds pretty damn different to humans.

People, STOP focusing so much on the fact that they have hair as an argument that they look too human. They're MAMMALIAN, always have been. Remember how Tali says that Rannoc has no insect life, so the quarians became the carriers of the native plants seeds? How do you think they did that? Answer: The pollen/seeds clung to their hair and traveled with them, like how some real life seeds need to cling to animal fur to disperse.

Also, DNA is DNA. Structure affects inner bodily processes, not outward appearance. Saying "Quarians have a different type of DNA so they should look different" makes about as much sense as saying "Humans and sponges have the same type of DNA, so why don't sponges look like humans?" It's basic biology, people.

My gosh, and you just berated me for being narrow-minded about pointing out the similarities of Canon-Tali to humans (granted, I was talking about her face, not her entire body). You don't like Starfish-Tali's face because it looks like it can be ripped off?

Many creatures in nature have appendages that can be easily pulled off.

And, for the record, Starfish-Tali has hair, too.

Besides, what does it matter? This discussion is incredibly moot. This all just boils down to an (unnecessary) conflict of opinion. I like Starfish-Tali and you don't. Can we just agree to disagree?

Just for clarification, I don't think Torsk's Tali looks ugly, just that as a human (pretending we are inside the ME universe) our opinion is irrelevant. Its not like she's going to breed with humans...

Point of order:

The fact asari have boobs makes them mammalian. Also, if they birth live young, as I believe they do (never heard of asari eggs before, not that it's actually ever been established), they are most definitely mammals by biological definition and classification.

The Art of the Mass Effect Universe has some varying alien designs for Tali.  Many of which would have been excellent choices for the Quarians.  They had three games to do it.  Instead, we get a poor and lazy photoshop job where if you look at it on its own, the Quarians are basically humans with some fancy tatoos and glowy eyes.  I consider Tali's character model and that photo completely separately from each other since nothing under a Quarian's mask has actually been rendered in game.

the problem with this is that it is ugly.

To you maybe, but you are not a quarian she isn't supposed to look good to you.
