OK, looks like I forgot to flag the file under my project as visible to everyone. It is now fixed and you can grab it from here as well as from Nexus. Sorry again...

The people who didn't like the balance complained, and they got their fix.  Those of us who would rather the game allow us to find those gameplay features without having them then taken away from us would now like to change it back (or at least some of it).

As I see it, BioWare designed the game as they saw fit, and these spells (except for Shimmering Shield) were working as intended.  But people didn't use them as BioWare expected, so BiOWare has now patched the spells to produce combat outcomes more in line with their intent.

And I object to that.  BiWare should give us fair and balanced rules, and then let the chips fall where they may.  This is, as it happens, exactly why I hate many professional sports organisations.  Teams learn to play effective defense, and the league outlaws those types of defenses.  One manufacturer makes faster cars, and the sanctioning body bans the new components that manufacturer invented.

A level playing field doesn't produce equal outcomes.  It grants equal opportunities.  I very strongly prefer equality of opportunity over equality of outcome.  So I'm undoing the balance changes that weren't bugfixes.

I am not installing 1.02 until this mod is available for download.

Umm, it really didn't take any sort of tactical genius to figure out that you can chain together any one of those spells to completely lock down your opposition.  I  don't necessarily think they needed to be nerfed, this is a single player game and we all have the ability to keep ourselves from exploiting cheap tactics if we wish too.  Personally, I'm glad that there are less of those automotic "I win"  buttons in the game after the patch.

Comparing this to rule changes in professional sports is laughable though.  It takes a lot of ingenuity to figure out a way to exploit the rules in most real sports these days.   They've been refining their rules for decades.  Realizing you can chain-Crushing Prison almost every powerful enemy in the game to death is akin to "discovering" that you can effectively kick someone in the balls to keep them from scoring a goal.  The game is better off having some rules.

Can we please, please, PLEASE for the love of Maker keep our philosophical differences out of this particular thread? This thread blew up nicely, can we use it to bump heads over what is OP and what needs2bnerfdNAO?

This is just a mod release thread... let's not scare away potential customers...

Personally I think this is a silly idea for a mod, but not as silly as those who post here attacking the person who made it. Damar Stiehl put in a good deal of effort to provide other, more lazy, players with an option to play the game how they want to play it, without having to get their own hands dirty. Surely that deserves a measure of appreciation even if you yourself would never install the thing.

Damar, I figured since you liked the old SS you might've checked, did only SS stop dropping in 1.02 or arcane shield and stuff too?

eta: START dropping arg

@Mathew Young CT: Sadly I only have SS and Rock Armor from the shield department on my current character. Rock Armor does not seem to drop at 0 mana both in 1.01 and 1.02, though funnily enough in the source ABI_Base it has flag 128 (I think that means "shut down at 0 mana"?). But my testing may have been flawed.

@SheffSteel: Thanks...

Rock Armour doesn't drop now in 1.02, nor does Flame Weapons. The Spirit Healers tier 3 persistant heal thingy does now (can't remember if it did previously).

My guess, their hinting at "What next, God Mode?"

Another reason why lm happy such "mods" are not available for the ps3.
But as l often say, its once's choice.

Cool. I don't suppose there is a way to de-nerf the 1.1 version of Blood Dragon Armor back to it's original stats in a future update to this mod?

Never heard of Blood Dragon Armor version 1.1, and it's outside of the scope of this particular mod anyway. Sorry.

Neither Rock Armour nor Flame Weapons ever dropped.  They don't consume mana, so they can persist indefinitely.

You don't even have to have mana in order to start them.

Actually I think the nerf of crushing prison made the game easier. It never lasted long against bosses (if it worked at all), it was useful for killing a white enemy or a yellow mage but that was about it. It was more annoying when it was used against you. After using the new version in the fade sequence I'm fairly certain it isn't worth taking anymore. Not that it makes a big difference for a PC mage since there are plenty of other spells to take and, as a tier 4, you don't miss out on anything by not taking it, but it's one less reason to fear enemy mages.

Edit: By the way, thanks for the mod, more options are always better than fewer.

Ironically it's this kind of (heated) discussion that tend to keep threads (like this) on the front page, so that more potential customers might notice it.

Heyy! Pseron! Long time no see :)

@Auraad: I'm not planning to make spells more powerful than they were in pre-1.01 world, mostly because the sore thumb that stuck out the most (Chain Lightning) has already been addressed by someone else, and expertly so. And (at least I think so) everything else seems to be performing about as well as can be expected. I'd be interested in hearing others' thoughts though.

@Skellimancer: thanks for the bump, but you are going to have to find another bridge to live under, my dear troll. I can be very religious about reporting troll posts, and even with loosey-goosey moderation here someone just might take notice. Then you will get your little dirty bottom spanked, and we don't want that, now do we?

Finally: if you are a good scripter and feel like lending me a hand with the next version of this mod, drop me a line. What I want done seems trivial, but it requires better knowledge of scripting, which I do not currently have... perhaps we could collaborate.

Im confused. The forums have been seething with players ranting that mages were OP since release, so bioware release a patch to try to fix that a bit...and there's already a mod to change things back? "blinks"

Would you expect people who like how something works to flood the forum shouting about it?

The people who didn't like the balance complained, and they got their fix.  Those of us who would rather the game allow us to find those gameplay features without having them then taken away from us would now like to change it back (or at least some of it).
