Necro! Though mind you I'll take any excuse to **** about KL.

Yeah just totally cheesy, one dimensional (and that dimension was wildly inconsistent), and above all just a total irritant. I was so glad when he died, but in the sense of being so glad when you finally stop hiccuping. Not in the sense of "YEAH what an evil bad guy so glad I spared the universe from his awesome evil powers". He wasn't a bad guy you hate he was just a real irritant.

Pretty much like all of Cerberus in ME3. They were just irritants. Same goes for Kenson's army in Arrival (Mac wrote that too). Indoctrinated humans just seem to grate on me. Not ****** me off or disturb me per se.

Honestly, Cerberus are so ridiculous in ME3. It's literally like they found the Star Forge after ME2. Guess its BioWare mixing up which game series they're working on.

All hail the great Infin...I mean Cerberus Empire!

Why does the word "necro" pop up whenever an old abandoned forum gets resurfaced?

Necro as in necromancy, which means "raising the dead".

In this case, raising dead forum threads.

Also, FYI these things aren't "forums", forums are like the whole discussion site. Each individual topic is a thread (or a topic or w/e).

You should contribute to my "ME3: What the badguys should have been..." forum. I need some back up there.

Cerberus was always a mess. Seems like people tend to forget about the stupid major retcon they got from ME1 to ME2.

He's a space ninja. He looks like he was taken from Metal Gear or Tekken, didn't fit in the Mass Effect Universe at all IMHO.

Most of cerberus from ME3 looks like they came from MGS or MGS revengeance.

Considering Benezia's one-dimensional and stiffly-written self and the appearances of the asari commandos, Thane and Miranda, a devious "space ninja" like Leng isn't outside the realm of tolerable in the Mass Effect universe. Had his writing and fight choreography been handled just a bit better, he could have easily been an interesting anti-Shepard.

I agree, he has potential. It just suffers like so many other elements (I think it goes beyond choreography though. That is, if he's meant to be anti-Shepard. Something like that needs to be explored better). A lot of Cerberus related characters weren't done justice (TIM, Miranda, Leng.. even Jack, if you want to include her as Cerberus related. I don't get to kill enough Cerberus soldiers with her. Heh).

I think it might need a little more work than that.

Even with fixing that fight and his immaturity (What were they thinking with that email?), Leng would still be terribly boring and poorly characterized. Did the writers assume people had read the books and were familiar with who he was?

As someone who had not read any of the expanded universe material, I felt I was not given much reason to care about who he was or consider him a rival.

Armass above compared his looks to that of Revengeance. We may have gotten that game's style for Kai Leng, too bad we didn't get any of its personality. Jetstream Sam was a much better rival.

He's a pretty bland character in Retribution as well(as with the rest of Drew's characters from the books).

The only good anti-Shepard in the franchise was Vasir from LOTSB.

I haven't read the books either, but I get the gist of how he was presented there. His casual behavior about killing is typical of sociopaths. So I think there's potential in that. I don't know if he can truly be menacing in these big battlefield settings though. He's the kind of character you don't want to run into in a dark alley or some urban setting.

especially when his special power is to make people who are otherwise competent go DERP

KL was a waste of time and space. And that is what upset me the most. Give more scenes of Jack, or Samara, Grunt - or ANY character from ME2 (that was still alive, of course).

I never read the books, despite playing ME1, 2 and 3. I still haven't and don't plan too. All I saw was some "ninja" guy jumping and duking it out with Thane. While Shepard (and others) stood there picking their toes.

And his "Sword of Power". I almost stopped playing the game at the sky-car scene.

When KL "finally" died, I didn't have a "Gee I'm happy I beat the bad guy" feeling. I was like, "Thank god this boob is gone from the game."

He's built up as a "rival" for Shepard but fails pretty hard at it. Also the ridiculous characterization and plot armor.

This. There was never any comparison. Kai Leng had to resort to using an indestructable gunship while he hid in impenetrable barriers and used a cutscene to defeat Shepard in order to have a chance. But in an actual fight, he was roflstomped by Ashley... on Hardcore mode.

Had they kept to his characterization in Retribution, he would've been a valuable asset to the story, but as he stood, he fell flat on his face...

I mean, seriously, A SPACE NINJA???

It's ironic how the Citadel DLC's admittedly ridiculous clone plot managed to present a more meaningful nemesis that hit much closer to home than KL ever could. It was actually more satisfying to capture/kill Brooks and defeat the clone, because the both of them were trying to seize one of the most important parts of the game. Of course, it also helps that the Citadel DLC's boss battle is much more entertaining.

There were some lines there that I thought would have been good to explore more, but it went nowhere. Like TIM talking about how Shepard was a relic. They could provided more contrast about that.. how Shepard is more or less oldschool and more reliant on his/her basic humanity. TIM needed more leverage than humanity, ironically. He and Leng needed Reapers.
