I think the cereal thing should be mentioned, yes.

How the hell can you be considered a worthy opponent after that?

Would have been awesome if Anderson would have said, " That sunuva b*tch ate my cereal Shepard! He's gotta die..."

Based on my understanding, the purpose of kai leng was to give us someone to hate. I'd say mission accomplished based on that...

Yea,  but I hated him for all the wrong reasons. Not becuz he was a worthy opponent. I hated him cuz he was so cheesey.

You mean where shepard wasn't even able to gun him while standing like three meters away and then jumping into the wrong direction, i mean the guys are standing right in front of eachother yet for some suddenly shepard runs back only to be blast away by and explosion he could have avoided.

Bullets can instatly go through Kintic barriers just like that? Weren't you tring to do that to him for thepast 5 mins or more when he has a super barrier?

I'm glad to see that you agree with that being both a poor plot and gameplay device.

Not exactly.
There's a difference between "hating" a character within the context of the story, and "hating" a character in general.  It's the difference between being well written and badly written.
I'm coming up pretty short on videogame examples right now for whatever reason...but a good example in film is Loki from the Avengers.  No spoilers, but suffice to say that Loki is an extremely effective antagonist who's well played by Tom Hiddleston.  A large part of the movie is built around making us HATE him and want to see someone mop the floor with him.....but that's what his role in the story is.

That's not the case with Kai Leng.  He's built up as a sort of "anti-shepard"....but he just comes across as one dimensional, poorly designed, stupid, and not at all very threatening due to plot armor.

Because he uses blades.....on space......with sunglasses (joking).....i don't know it just felt pretty cheap, like the stereotype of a badass evil minion. Didn't care about him that much though....i hated way more the ending.

If the intent was to make him really hateable in a pathetic loser kind of way then they did a good job.

Plus that scene where he kills Thane is just silly. I thought it was going to be awesome when Thane appeared but then Shepard and the gang just stood there and did nothing as their friend with one foot in the grave ran stomach first into a sword.

Hated him cos of his plot armour, and his "stupidity field" around him.

Srsly, Shep is a frikkin moron around Leng, he lets him kill thane, he lets him escape, he shoots his own car to get him off (WTF!) he, then leaves a badly wounded leng behind him..........

Jesus, Leng is the biggest fail villan of all time. He's more frustrating cos the writers wont let us kill him, than anything else.

I thought the scene where KL and Shep are shooting at each other at the Citadel was awesome. Also breaking his sword with a Ren interrupt towards the end was super satisfying.

'Cause dropping him into the game was a cheap and lazy means of padding out the game. Rather than plot development (of which there was not enough imo) we get several minutes of cut scenes with Shep standing around drooling while the super ninja bad a** does his silly sword play.

Kai Leng brought a sword to a gunfight. Why did he last even 10 frames????

He's a space ninja. He looks like he was taken from Metal Gear or Tekken, didn't fit in the Mass Effect Universe at all IMHO.

I probably wouldn't mind him in the rest of the game if the fight scene between him and Thane wasn't so dumb. Shep and co stand there not doing anything, they or Thane din't shoot at him when he's lying on the ground, Kai Leng doesn't use a ranged weapon at all, and worst of all Thane runs towards a guy with a sword when Thane himself has a gun. And surprise surprise Thane gets stabbed, I was expecting Thane to die and I'm glad he got to do it in a badass way (in theory), but that fight scene was so contrived and silly it soured me on Kai Leng.

Because he's an attention ho who sends letters to Shepard that are of 'Imma crash your prom and steal your man' maturity level, he killed one of my favourite characters and I'm not allowed to knock him down and crush his face with my palm.

It's basically this:

And we're not allowed to stop it on the basis of 'omg space ninja' when he fails left and right on his own.

I don't hate him but I wanted to if that makes sense. To elaborate I think he could have been a legitmate threat instead of having cutscene powers.

I think just because he's a underdeveloped character compared to everyone else in the game.

He is so immature. He is put there to be a rival for shepard but I already have a rival in the Illusive man. Kai Leng is so cliché it hurts. Some of it isnt even Kai leng. Its the contrived emotions that Bioware inflicts upon us.

Here is one example of why Kai leng is a big baby.

Because he has, possibly, the most terrible plot armor of any character I've ever seen.

First, Thane goes all herp-derp and doesn't just shoot him in the head when he had the perfect opportunity. For such a skilled assassin, that was a dumb-**** move.

Second on the skycar, Shepard sits there for like 10 seconds like an idiot instead of shooting and killing him. And failing to shoot him as soon as he brings that noob-shield down.

Then again, on Thessia, we could have rofl-stomped his **** ass. Instead, he "has to recharge" calls a gunship for help, and suddenly becomes invulnerable.

Lastly, on Cronos Station, even though we get to kill him, he again "needs to recharge" and suddenly becomes invulnerable.

Plot armor is all well and good, as long as it doesn't suck ass and isn't as obvious as an elephant in a room full of mice.

Because he feels out of place in the universe, he has plot armour, and he has this wierd stupidity aura where every time he enters a scene everybody else in that scene immediately becomes thick as two short planks (presumably so Leng can seem less ineffectual in comparison to them). Also because he doesn't ACTUALLY act like a BAMF, he acts like a tweenager trying to be what they imagine "badass" to be.

He's just a bit pathetic, really, which would be fine except the narrative keeps trying to validate him as not useless.

Because he was a gnat, he wasn't a villain, he wasn't a badass, he was just an annoying gnat with plot armor.

Kai Leng should have been the Vamp to Shepard's Raiden (tough sob on equal footing with protagonist, right hand of antagonist). Instead, he was a Mantom with a flashy hairstyle. This is NOT the KL from Retribution that should've been introduced into the games.

That's my biggest thing. After Thane Bioslams him, start saying, "Shoot him" over and over until he gets up and imagine how many rounds you could have put into him.
