What's with the whole cerrial reason? Is that on the Cronos Station?

This, please.  I was off the BSN for like a week, came back, and saw pictures of Kai Leng eating cereal all over the place.  I'm deeply confused.  Can someone explain why he's a more effective Trix rabbit?

Because he was billed as being Shepard's 'equal' and totally bad-ass, What we got was a waste of space with Kai Leng when I found Phantoms to be more of a problem then he was.

He was never "hate" material worthy, just completely pathetic and annoying.

Apparently in one of the novels he had to prove how awesome he was so he broke into Andersons apartment and ate his cereal.

Honestly I didn't mind him. Sure as a "rival" he sucked and shouldn't have been a rival because he was a new character.

I honestly didn't mind him though because he was the indoc'd servant of TIM, end of story. I didn't expect any more from him than what we got. It's just the label of "rival" they gave him that seriously doesn't fit.

He's a space ninja. He looks like he was taken from Metal Gear or Tekken, didn't fit in the Mass Effect Universe at all IMHO.

Gray Fox from MGS was infinitely more badass than Kai Leng. And he didn't use a type of sword which only came into existance in the mid-1900s. Ninjas didn't use ninjatos. Kai Leng did. Terribly lame for a "ninja". Also, the squinty, slanty eyed mask was both a terrible Ninghtwing rip-off and felt a little racist.  His pony tail also seemed reminiscent of a topknot, which would  culturally wrong; KL was Chinese, not Japanese. If his role as a ninja made any less sense, KL would have been modeled on Chris Farley

In one of the books, he stops in the apartment of his target and eats a few bowls of cereal. Because aparently the writer couldn't resist the "cereal killer" puns. The ME universe suffered for it.

Spirits. This forum does not have an emoticon that looks exasperated enough for me right now.

Okay, I didn't hate him as much as you guys did before, but now?  THIS is our rival?  A guy who steals cereal, pisses in vases, and writes childish neener-neener-letters when he only wins a fight due to gunship?  Consider me converted.

Plot armor was the least of my problems with KL, at least at first. First playthrough, I cared more about story and his was terrible. When I got to my Mars on my 2nd playthrough, I realized Eva had stronger plot armor than Leng, and I turned off my Xbox.

Well, he did appear much, much more bad ass before the last book (Deception). He went from credible villain into... into... something else.

Gameplay wise, I actually had way more trouble with regular Phantoms the Kai Leng. So that's more fail for him, the boss version of an enemy should not be easier than the mook version.

I thought he was a bit silly (A sword? Seriously?) but I don't hate him. I hated the way they did the Thessia battle with him, though. That was quite poorly done, IMO, and very frustrating.

Kai Leng should have been the Vamp to Shepard's Raiden (tough sob on equal footing with protagonist, right hand of antagonist). Instead, he was a Mantom with a flashy hairstyle. This is NOT the KL from Retribution that should've been introduced into the games.

This. Leng from Retribution would have been a great villain's henchman! He was intelligent, cold, and was not above manipulating circumstances to benefit himself. (See: end of Retribution) None of that came through in Mass Effect 3 (and probably Deception, judging by others' comments). We may actually be able to salvage his character if we assume that being rebuilt destroyed his higher mental functions; aka: more Cerberus evil. However, it doesn't seem as though this was what Bioware intended.

I don't. He allows for a truly awesome sword-breaking spinny omni-bladey staby moment.

I didn't have trouble. Just a lot of frustration that every time dumped an otherwise fatal headshot into him, he ran and hid.   Honestly, a single Banshee is more difficult than all the KL fights combined.

I hate him because he took up precious storage space on the disk which could of been used for more Shep + Garrus Bromance.

I believe Kai Leng could have been a great character, if BioWare took him in another direction. What we got, however, is some cheesy plot-device a lot of people dislike.

Plot armor, plain and simple; My Shep would have sprayed the entire area with hot lead(or whatever those guns fire) and biotic energy during his altercation with Thane, instead of just standing there watching Thane get stabbed.

I didn't hate leng as a character during my initial run through me3. I did raise an eyebrow at allers, but then I thought to myself...fan service can't hurt right?

Introduced too late in the game series to develop into a real villain like the reapers or TIM.

The horrible forced battle where you could lose but you couldn't win. It totally fails to up the dislike for a character when they win a battle undeserved and worse yet the hero is forced to tlak to hacket with his tail between his legs. Very bad use of Kai Leng, He should have been a minor boss battle and nothing more.
