His portrayal in ME3 was silly and annoying.

I would preffer as a my enemy someone similiar to Zaed, soldier and ruthless bastard without backbone, ofc in some kind of Cerb Armor ... and encounters with him i prefered to be more action i mean that he was trying to get me more on close combat he was more agressive and not some crazy encounter with army cheap tricks - I mean something similiar to boss encounters from Deus Ex: HR or Saren from ME1.... it was realy chalange and fun not running from some kind of space monkey
Do you remember first ME ? Realy great vilains were there ... The Thorian, Saren, Sovereign ... all cut-scenes with theme were great - you have a feeling like they were real, it was like a first time when i have seen star wars ... so great
Than ME2 - The General, Harbringer, Broker and Tela Vasir ... also great they keep line of quality
ME3 - hmm Harb dissapeared, TIM was fine and voiceacting of Sheen is as always great but Kai ... i don´t know - so booring

Bioware used him to murder my Thane. Plus he looks like an angry My Little Pony. That's enough of a reason for me.
Can we demand a side by side comparison? I feel this warrants one, if only for the potential giggles.
I did find this doing a google search a while ago for Kai Leng mlp. Along with some other disturbing images like sheplooXkai shirtless stuff.
I know I shouldn't admit to liking stuff like this, but it totally appeals to the joy of the random.
I'm not sure I want to know what the SheplooKai thing is... It's probably just going to disturb the hell out of me. Rule no.34 of the internet seems to ring true - if you can imagine it, there's adult material based on it.

Yea it doesnt matter that time and even now because Saren was a great vilain - Spectre - Turian - hating humans - looking for a way to bring back Reapers ... you can´t compare this to cereal ninja

Also, he was supposed to frustrate you. The devs just used a cheap way to achieve that.
Apart from the ridiculous fighting scene with Thane, I found him pretty much alright. *shrugs*
So, sometimes plot armor is alright, and sometimes it isn't?Applepie_Svk wrote...

The biotic plot armor is something that has been established in the first game. It's silly complaining about it now.

Kai - Cereal ninja - not interesting and booring

It was done right though. You could legitamentaly beat Saren, but it was long, hard, and difficult (as it should have been), and as such when Saren throughs his flash-bang to escape (his plot armor), it felt real unlike stupid-man who think's it's cool to wave his sword out in the open while openly mocking us with his obvious plot armor.

Not in the first fight.
And not really in the last(second) fight, he got a shield regen from Sovereign after soveregin blew some ships up I think.

In the second fight, you aren't fighting Saren anymore, you are fighting Sovereign (or rather Sovereign's avatar). In addition, the recharge is cleverly hidden with a cut-scene essentially showing the Reaper being more powerful than expected (sort of like a second wind). Given that we ARE fighting the avatar of a damn Reaper, I think it was appropriate.

I think Mass Effect Deception started his downfall, as he was better remembered for eating Andersons cereal than doing anything 'badass'.
Then ME3, he was just lame.

It seemed like he was shoehorned in just to give Shepard a semi-permanent antagonist. He was underdeveloped as a character, instead of giving him a proper backstory so that we could geniunely fear him (or not), we're simply told, repeatedly, not to underestimate him. Instead of losing to him based on his actual skill, thus establishing him as an badass, we're forced to lose to him. Instead of making him a complex character with his own reasons for targeting Shepard, he blindly follows the illusive man's lead and does predictable villian-y things like kill Thane. He doesn't make you fear him, he gets you annoyed at him and makes you want to finish him just to progress the story. A good antagonist is someone like Saren, who you hate but also love at the same time, because he's relatable. There was an inner struggle, a "human ness" to Saren, and to the Illusive man too btw, that was absent completely in Kai Leng. Basically, Kai Leng was a stereotypical video game evil guy, and never progressed beyond that role, and in a game with an already clearly defined enemy (the reapers), he just wasn't needed.

I'm still calling it Saren as it is in Saren's form.
Wasn't that clever, Saren was still very much useless and previous bosses were harder.
A final boss that failed to kill me.

While I can see the complaints about Kai Leng, I don't understand why people complain about Thane being able to take him. What, would you have prefered that Thane died without putting up a fight? It shouldn't be seen as an example of how wussy Kai Leng is, but how badass Thane is.

Buuuut Thane DID take him. He kicked his ass. And that's because he's the best.

Regarding how lame K-Leng really is without his plot armor, I think Thane said it best. "That assassin ought to be embarassed. He let a terminally ill drell get between him and his target."

To those still wondering about the cereal meme:
"Author" William C. Dietz wrote Mass Effect: Deception, a book so bad that it was practically recalled by BioWare after we (BSN, duh) ripped it to shreds for its lack of respect towards the series' lore and consistency of the books. It's so bad that now it is officially NOT canon.
TL;DR: http://imgur.com/a/lAVji#0
...eh...how does that explain the Cereal meme? I'm still in the dark here...hang on -THERE'S MASS EFFECT BOOKS!?! MY WHOLE LIFE IS A LIE!
In Deception, he breaks into Anderson's apartment on the Citadel, plants a bunch of surveillance devices, then eats Anderson's cereal as an expression of dominance.

Thus, he completely fails as a boss or "dragon" type character. He comes off as an arrogant, incompetent adrenaline-junkie who needs a damn gunship to have a change against Shepard.

A cutscene gunship. We've downed several gunships as well as their reaper equivalents.
