Does anyone else think DA3 will create Bioware's biggest backlash to date?

Miranda's ass (or EDI's ******) seems more exploitative to me than Witcher 2 sex scenes.

They're examples, too.

Because they are in place, in context and fit in the tone of the game.

Then it follows the entire game is exploitative.  Which - and I'll emphasize this strongly - doesn't mean "bad" it just means it follows certain genre conventions.

"Wrong" is the... wrong word.  It's about the cinematography, costume decisions, it's... a host of things.  But as Justice Potter Stewart once said, "I know it when I see it."

But I'm not going to go even further off-topic by starting a film class lesson.

Kind of hard to avoid when it's true.

I find that hard to believe. But I guess I won't judge it 'til i play the game(s).

How does this correlate into DA3 receiving the biggest backlash ever?

It did.  For a moment.  Then that train really jumped the tracks..^_^

I can't discuss the Witcher series.  It looks interesting, but I'd rather play an RPG with a character I can create, so it's never been a priority.  And I've only read a little of Martin's stuff it's good, but i wouldn't enjoy it if it were a video game.  It's an awesome story, but it's not one that I would have fun playing.  That's why I prefered origin's cliched plotline to DA2's.  It's unoriginal yes, but it's fun to be the hero who saves the world.  It's not fun to spend 40-60 hours and feel like you've accomplished nothing, which is what DA2 left me with.

My opinion, take it for what it's worth.

Mass Effect is horrid about nonsensical fanservice. The Mass Effect team isn't the Dragon Age team, though.

I don't really see what's wrong with the sex scenes. They are all in one way or the other justified within the plot if one seeks to engage in them, other than prostitutes of course.

I'm sure it's less bothersome to anyone not actually affected by female objectification in media!

Maturity of plot compared with TW2 > somebody says TW2 isn't mature > argument > sex scenes mentioned as immature > current train of thought

I am convinced the cards were simply budget alternatives to cut scenes. The problem with sex in TW1 was the sheer number of times Geralt got laid and the ease with which he could.

Which sometimes appeared out of nowhere!

*tells Triss a compliment* - bam sex.
*Give an elf food* - bam hate sex
*Want to help some vampires just out of altruism* - bam foursome with ugly vampires.

Wtf?

It was very immature when it came to that. TW2 improved dramatically.

Is it? There are plenty of games I think are better than the Dragon Age games, yet I am somehow able to resist the temptation of brining them up in every thread.

I can only comment on TW1, but in response to that game alone I find your analysis laughable.  Sex cards exist and there is no justifying them.  Seriously, if I was going to do a project that attempted to detail misogyny and exploitation in video games I'd start with TW1.

They're no different than a fade to black or one of those awkward pixel bumping scenes, except the "collectible" aspect which is indeed crass.  Artistically they're actually nicely illustrated- apart from a couple of them which still give me nightmares and I can only attribute to Geralt's potion goggles.   On the whole, I don't find them any more tasteless than Bioware's bump and grind scenes, or VA's sucking on their hand in front of a microphone.

The games are certainly not misogynistic.  That's just stupid.  The whole theme of chapter 1 in TW1 is about what real misogyny is- a town blaming a woman on the margins of society for their own vices.  If you missed that and were giggling over the boobs, that's your own problem.  On my replay of TW1 (when I was no longer being a completionist), Geralt slept with a grand total of two women the whole game, one of them his long-term GF who played a major role in the plot.

Perhaps it is.

Don't really mind it. It doesn't look ridiculous or out of place.

Slim...monster contracts aren't what some players expect.

When BioWare puts monster contracts in their games, they are criticized for "mmo-style kill X monsters" lazy quest writing.

I "expected" monster contracts, because I beat TW1. I'm familiar with what Witchers are. But I get very bored of them very quickly. My attempts to replay TW1 have, thus, always ended in the swamp.

Oh look, someone else who can simplify and belittle a narrative. I'm really impressed.

No.  People are claiming "mature/immature" is a nonsense, self-serving dichotomy with no justification or relation to the quality of storytelling.

It's not. The other two are.

But Mass Effect has been criticized on this point many times. How is that an argument against The Witcher being exploitative?

Yeeeaaah... unlike Miranda's ass, EDI's ****** is actually quite nightmarish and couldn't possibly be any more out of place.

In fact, I hated EDI being a playable character in general (I'd have rather had a krogan ally by far) - not to mention that uber creepy EDI/Joker romance that gave me a nauseatingly bad case of uncanny valley.

Just one of many things I hated about ME3.

Even Twilight has a plot.

Obviously those who say that women in TW2 exist only to give males hard ons didn't play the game.

I'm going to agree with this.

It's an area in which The Witcher and The Witcher 2 are very different.

*snip*

I've no idea why they included ******. It doesn't offend me, just funny. But I will defend the Miranda sex scene and her black bra - just plain sexy. There should be more of this in their games when it comes to romance.

Could somebody in three sentences describe DA2's plot, and somebody in three sentences describe TW2's plot? The DA side write their 3 sentence narrative summary, and TW2 side write their 3 sentence summary.
