Does anyone else think DA3 will create Bioware's biggest backlash to date?

And no a lot of generic women are pleasant looking, in Flotsam, Vergen and Loc Muinne.

Not really.  All the female elves look almost exactly the same, and you get one of them outright, and another sexually teases you into an ambush in chapter 1.  As for the humans,  they vary wildly  between average and yuck.  There is an herbalist/sorceress in Flotsam that is the exception to this rule, but of course, the game lets you flirt with her.

Are the important NPCs more distinct and better looking? Sure, but you would be fooling yourself if you say random woman in Denerim is as hot as Leliana or Morrigan.

^see, this is precisely the type of  "I'm gonna miss the point and argue  from my imagination" phenomenon that this board is legendary for.

It has not been my argument, ever, that Bioware somehow  isn't equally guilty of everything I've ascribed to TW2.  So no, contrary to your wishes, I don't "fool" myself.    Instead, I make valid points, and then helplessly wait for them to be dodged.

One day, I might take screenies and show how wrong you are. Even it's an irreleventt point that no where near shows that TW2 women are there just to give us hard-ons.

Doesn't matter to me since I won't be buying DA3. Bioware has destroyed my trust in the quality of their games since DA2 and ME3.

Is it just me, or has this thread really gone downhill in the last few hours?

Yeah, this thread seems to be more about sexuality as a measure of maturity or sophistication, than about the response to DA3 and future Bioware titles. As someone who doesn't care about other people's genitals, I can't tell you how tiresome it is to see this forum community so obsessed with digital, fictional sex and nudity.

I think one way Bioware can improve the response from their fans is by changing their pipelines and priorities. I would rather have a game with a weak middle section than a weak ending. I think the idea of putting endings off till the end of the design phase is really a poor choice. Endings are the last bits of content players and reviewers experience before rushing off to forums or blogs to share their thoughts. I think games like Assassin's Creed and Red Dead Redemption are a great example of this. Both of those games have relatively weak middle segments, but the endings are excellent and unforgettable. I think it is time Bioware places a greater emphasis on making unforgettable endings and conclusions, and maybe they can do that by cutting out the trite and shallow romances :D

My point is that the following is BS:

KnightofPhoenix wrote...
Obviously those who say that women in TW2 exist only to give males hard ons didn't play the game.

^this one's  vision is clouded by  love of the game.  Any rational observer of TW2 can clearly see a deliberate and  distinct  difference between the generic, unnamed women in TW2, which are all  butt ugly, and then the Named, f**kable, or otherwise  sex-content-containing NPCs being really really hot.

That's not BS.

Philipa: lesbian chica who you get to see moaning as she gets a back rub and later spanking her lover.

She's presented in a titillating manner for a presumably straight male audience, but it would still be incorrect to say she exists only to give guys hard-ons. She's a well-rounded character with a meaningful part in the plot.

I could say the same of Miranda and Isabela. Being sexualized is not the same as being reduced to nothing but a sex object.

Example? Besides the Leisure Suit Larry games, I can't really think of any.

Are you asking for stories where sex is vital or sex scenes are vital?

Triss, Toruviel, Liara, Jack, Miranda ...WTF are you on about?

Edit: wanted to include Samara because her lack of sex is important.

Sex scenes aren't vital to their plotlines.

@android I'd argue that in at least half your examples sex scenes were not the vital part of the main plotline. But I was actually referring to games, not other mediums. I should have been more clear in the question.

@Cutlass Jack and which would those be? The sex scenes or the element of sex is rather important to the examples I gave.

Just video games? Mona Sax and Max Payne's sex scene us pretty symbolic and defining of the character. It tes back to the story's origin and further solidifies the poison that Max Payne really is.

I can't believe In saying this but with the exception of Tali, Garrus and Jacob, all ofthe Me1 and ME2 romances help to develop those characters further in a way that wouldn't be possible without romancing them. Same for the DA series.

My Shepard never had sex with Miranda since she can't have sex with her, so I guess Mirandas plotline makes no sense? Or how abotu the fact you never have to have sex with Liara and her plotline is fine. Same with Jack. Bad examples are bad.

Here we have a thread where posters describe  DA:O's plot as  disney-like, But I'm the one spewing the hyperbole when I  decide to  simply cite 4 instances of non-vital-to-the-plot sex scenes in TW2, in response to the false  claim that CDProjekt didn't put stuff in the game  for the specific purpose of giving male players Hardons.

I never said that about DAO's plot.  But you're not making any points by wildly exaggerating things about TW2- as if that is even relevant to a discussion of the merits of DAO's story.  All the ****** for tat comparison is silly.

And so is the idea that Ves and Philippa exist for boners.  If you said that about Isabela, I'd like to see the DA2 crowd here respond.  Both of those women are fully developed characters with agendas and minds of their own and plot involvement.  You know why they aren't central to the plot?  Becaus everyone is working their own angles and has their own business and they don't all revolve around the PC.  That's a strength of the game.

So if you're going to criticize something about TW2's story, find something substantial.  We'll wait.

Except you're wrong. Miranda does not go in depth about her child hood trauma and how it affects her as an adult unless you romance her. Jack doesn't want anything to do with a femshep, and male shep only gets a deep story about her life if he romances her.

I can't believe there was 10 pages of argument over what exactly constituted something as subjective as maturity.

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

No s*** - you people are majorly overthinking this stuff. Is it really necessary to so excessively read into and split hairs over such trivial and subjective things as these? :?

Jack has nothing to do with a femshep? Really? Because in ME3 they where friends and even had a friendly danced. Miranda talks abotu her childhood no matter what to you, romance or not, Sex is not vital to those characters at all, if it was, it would be a forced romance crap liek Geralt/Triss.

Yea and when I say that Tom and Jerry is more mature than Game of Thrones, I'll hide behind subjectivity and chill.
