A Dragon Age MMO

What would you think of an MMO set in the Dragon Age universe? Would you play it? Would you play it if it cost a monthly subscription fee?
...Alright, I guess I'll start.
I don't make a habit of MMOs. I love video games, but I am very, very bad at playing them, and it takes me a long time to get through even basic single-player campaigns, so paying for my game per month doesn't really appeal.
I love the Dragon Age world and lore and the characters who inhabit it, but if you asked me if I'd play an MMO (why yes I did ask me) I'd ask if the world really needs another fantasy-themed MMO.
If there was no subscription fee and the game got rave reviews, I might try it out after it came down to budget price. But mostly I'd be waiting for the next single-player game, so I can continue the Dragon Age story, which is what I'm actually interested in...
Ok, there's my opinion. How about you?

Now, if that were the *only* way I could get my DA fix...I'd at least give it a gander. I love the lore and the world, so I wouldn't want to miss out.

I would be open to multiplayer co-op though.
SWTOR was fun actually though... but the whole time I played it I was imagining how much better it would have been if it wasn't an MMO

I don't play MMOs. Video games are a personal experience for me; I play them to get away from the world and other people for a while. Plus, many of the people I've interacted with in multiplayer settings have been...unpleasant. And none of my friends play video games.
If BioWare goes the MMO route, I can't follow. It'll make me sad since I love Dragon Age dearly, but yeah. I passed on The Old Republic...I can pass on a Dragon Age MMO.

Nothing against that game, I'm just wondering who's idea it actually was.

It was the brainchild of Rich Vogel (executive producer of SW:G) and James Ohlen (KOTOR, DAO, JE)

I still wouldn't want a current established franchise to be turned into an MMO unless the SP campaign was completely finished and it has no ties to that campaign other then basic lore.

This has been put out hundreds of time. Every single time the answer is a resonating NO.

Just to point out, MMOG is not synonymous with subscription. In fact, more MMOGs these days are free to play than take a monthly fee.
The "free to play" ones usually provide perks for subscribers, or require you to buy the best gear or to level above a certain amount. All of which is fair, but "free to play" is just to get you in the door.

People mostly don't play MMO for the story , they play and pay because it's addictive to kill stuff and gain something that makes them feel badass (shiny armor).
Lots of cinematic in a mmo is a wrong move...
I bought SWtor , thinking " mmo and somekind of rpg from bioware , it's gonna be great!"
On the paper it is , but i don't think it works.
Having companion too doesn't work in a mmo , i was playing the Han solo class , Has a guy with me Corso i think , and it felt wrong. It's supposed to be somethin special , you can have relationship with the guy , and when you walk around you meet ton of people walking around with their own COrso...
So from what i saw from wow and swtor , please no...
The lore will suffer , because you 're supposed to provide encounter with a new boss every 6 month or so ,you have to made up new villain on daily basis ( which WOW did by rise from the dead 50% of things we killed , even beheaded villain had their head back for it , and by corrupting all the rest)
And in SWtor every immersion provided via the Bioware formula of making RPG was broken by the fact that it was a MMO, so it ends up not being a good rpg and not even being a good mmo ...

Yeah and in some cases you might actually end up spending more money. Mabinogi's whole ecosystem was based on subscribers explioting their perks and selling them to non-subscribers.DreamerM wrote...

I've played like 5 years and every time i met somebody interested in the story (or who even read quest text at all..) it was like an angel descending from the heavens...
Sucessful mmo had to be like some mindless game tv show , not too deep , with some eye candy and have some thing to gossip abput ( "hey i think guild mate x slept with guild mate Y) , and with some shiny reward at the end.

...so twisted logic says EA might actually be enthusiastic about this.

The same EA that was saying their goal for Old Republic was for it to be bigger then World of Warcraft? Then backpeddled after Old Republic lost a ton of subscribers?

Why don't you guys who propose this idea ever use the search bar?
Searching isn't the problem, it's the neccessity of the unholy magiks called Thread Ressurrection, wherin a long-dead and decomposing thread is revived to jerk and twitch and stink for our amusement until someone mercy-kills it....

It's a dead market. Stone dead. If you want a successful MMO, you have to do something much different, much more interesting and revolutionary. But as long as EA are the way they are, I'm not telling them.

At the same time, I hope it doesn't go the route of WoW or Aion or Tera or any of the traditional style MMOs. I hope it tries to recreate the idea of MMO by recreating it like Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World will.
At the same time, I know Bioware is part of EA, and EA is also helping with The Secret World. TSW is going to be sub-based, so I doubt Dragon Age as an MMO will be sub-free, much to my disdain.
