No way! I wouldn't mine the community having the ability create persistant worlds, like NWN1 though. But no MMO.

I can't see dragon age going down the MMO route because 1. it'd be directly competing against another bioware MMO, SWTOR. If they felt it would still be profitable, then 2. they'd probably make mass effect into an MMO first. Mass effect already has multiplayer, and it's a much bigger IP to boot. A third MMO at that point seems even less likely.

Would I play a DA MMO if it was made, though? Probably not. MMO's aren't really my thing, especially when I don't know who I'm playing with. And I've had some less than pleasant experiences with multiplayer in the past.

No I wouldn't want a MMO for DA. Why? Suddenly they shift from focusing on putting together good dlc for a SP game to focus on how are we going to make tons of money off of an MMO or even a co-op. I would rather them focus on putting together a great game rather than focus on how are we going to make a great MMO game/ SP game.

Dragon Age is actually a pretty good IP to include an MMO in it. There are a lot of possibilities, even more so than Star wars. In SW, the Jedi vs Sith theme is too strong, and if they want to make a themepark, they have to go with two factions, which does not support good world PvP.

IP itself can attract players, but ultimately, gameplay and content decides whether players are going to stay. Also, as far as attracting players go, IP itself can only carry you so far, especially with DA because many DA fans aren't MMO fans. So something new must come with the IP such as innovative combat.

I'd say, a sandbox, or at least a half sandbox is probably a good way to design a DA MMO without dumbing down/harming DA lore.

Themepark is far more restrictive and TES online already has heavy conflict with TES lore. Also, the race/faction combination is quite strict with DA lore, especially when it comes to dalish elves and Qunari, making the customization system a bit too restrictive, at least for my liking.

Anyway, if a DA MMO were to be made, there's a long list of names, which I don't want to see touching the game, in the Bioware Austin crew. They need a team of designers who know the basics of MMO and especially PvP, who's innovative, who's willing to take the risks to make it not a wow clone.

Whats up with every game needs to become an MMO! Single player games seems out of voque for some reason lately. RPG's must become badly story driven shooters or button mashing things with MP taked on. Microtransactions is the all new hyped trend since monthly fee is not doing so well. All I see lately are money grabbing vultures that dair state making games is art and saciface game genres for it with we want to reach a broader audience as excuse.

Basically what it says on the tin. I'm curious what you guys think about a DA MMO.

What would you think of an MMO set in the Dragon Age universe? Would you play it? Would you play it if it cost a monthly subscription fee?

...Alright, I guess I'll start.

I don't make a habit of MMOs. I love video games, but I am very, very bad at playing them, and it takes me a long time to get through even basic single-player campaigns, so paying for my game per month doesn't really appeal.

I love the Dragon Age world and lore and the characters who inhabit it, but if you asked me if I'd play an MMO (why yes I did ask me) I'd ask if the world really needs another fantasy-themed MMO.

If there was no subscription fee and the game got rave reviews, I might try it out after it came down to budget price. But mostly I'd be waiting for the next single-player game, so I can continue the Dragon Age story, which is what I'm actually interested in...

Ok, there's my opinion. How about you?

I'd play a DA MMORPG under the following conditions:

1) I found it fun to play.
2) There was more to do in the world than kill stuff / You can play the game and advance a character without being an adventurer.
3) No subsrciptions.

Mostly I'd be interested in something that's a cross between Ultima Online with its slew of professions, player houses and customisation (you can make a living making freakin' furniture and cake), and Guild Wars with its 'You don't have to pay money to get the best gear/skills,' philosophy.

Edit:

4) The production of the single player game doesn't suffer for the production of the MMO. Which would most probably happen.

Previously I would have said I wasn't interested in an MMO, but TOR is the first one I've really enjoyed. Therefore I have come to believe that BioWare would be capable of producing a Dragon Age MMO that I'd like.

However, I don't think they're likely to make one in the near future. They're not going to want anything competing with TOR, Mass Effect is the bigger IP, and DA would have trouble distinguishing itself from the dozens of other fantasy MMOs on the market.

As long as you could still have LIs (NPCs and other PCs), it'd work, but how fun it would be remains to be seen.

No, no, no, cannot stand MMOS. I don't want every game I love being turned into one. MMOS should be seperate games, not built on the successes of other games.

If we could play Diamondback with other PCs, I'm in.
And at least we'd get to see the rest of the world.

No. It would be a generic WOW rip off anyway.

Currently, a DA MMO is a pretty bad idea, mostly due to the fact that large segments of Thedas would need to be roped off because we haven't visited them in the SP campaign. To get our first views of Rivain or Orlais through an MMO would be a huge disservice. If after, say, two or three mre DA installations we got to see more of the continent through the SP campaign, then it could be possible. The Elder Scrolls MMO in development now is able to do this, as they have visited the majority of areas in their world before creating this MMO that can allow a player to visit any of them.

That said, I doubt I'd play it regardless, as I'm not an MMO fan.

Do you think we are going to get DA: 4, 5, 6, etc?  I guess it all depends on how well DA: 3 does.
But if it doesn't do well, or if 3 is the intended end of the series, I really would play a MMORPG.
I'm without one right now and want to play a newly released one :(

EA'S NOT ABOUT TO PUT OUT ANOTHER MMO THAT COMPETES WITH THE MMO THEY ALREADY HAVE, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT THEY'RE HAVING A HARD TIME HOLDING ON TO SUBSCRIBERS AS IS.

Agree with your first part.
It would be weird if BW would do something like that. Image IPB

I for one have not (and will never) play(ed) MMO's.

i think if they were to separate from other competing MMOs(WoW) they should stick to there roots as a DA game and keep the party idea intact, but who knows if that will still keep people playing, since there may have to be, i dont know, maybe the amount of companions as Skyrim, and probably more than that.

Running into Hax0R4U the elf, or I0WnZU the dawrf will ruin any hint of immersion for me, MMOs are a clear no-go.

A Dragon Age mmo, in my opinion would be a bad idea.

The very thought of having to fight the Warden or Hawke as mid level boss and then loot his/her trousers in a potential Dragon Age mmo is distressing.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, no more MMOs.

I liked Warcraft 1, 2, and 3... WoW came out and ruined it.
I loved Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2... SWTOR came out, and although I enjoy it, I'd enjoy KotOR 3 WAAAAY more.

Making MMOs from a previously single-player game series makes me sad, because you're more than likely never going to see a single player game in the series again.

All MMOs are bad ideas . They suck! Who wants to pay to play the game you own?
