It diminishes your credibility to hand-wring and hint of some doomsday scenario without elucidation.

It's not an accusation. It's an explanation. A discussion. Spit it out. Tell us your fears, and then we'll see if they're reasonable.

I'm willing to think this industry does not work the same as you'd expect from being familiar with the film industry.

If they start making us pay extra to watch the end of a movie, I'm sure people will be upset just like with video games.

One question I would like answered by BioWare is how at any point in production did the Normandy scene pass muster.

Are we expected to believe that no one, not writers, animators, testers, anybody thought for a moment that it didn't make sense?

Did Hudson, Gamble, and Walters honestly look at that scene and think "Yeah, that works"?

You know. I read that and started laughing uncontrollable about the whole situation.
It is quite inconceivable when you think about it. Did someone honestly look at the script for the ending and thought "yeah, that works"? You just have to laught about the mere thought of it.
I simply cannot fathom how someone can say that with a straight face. I refuse to believe it. There must be something else going on behind the scenes that we do not yet know about. Something BioWare have planned all along. Long before the EC was planned. Maybe that is why they say they cannot change anything in the EC. Becuase they have had something else planned all along? Or is it just me putting to much faith in BioWare? Maybe they really did loose all ties to reality in the final stages of production? Does hubris sneak up on you like that?

Honestly ladies and gents, I think we're putting too much faith in Bioware, the Bioware we once knew and loved, died the day they sold their souls to Satan(EA) for $600 million.

Nice money, I like money. (cit.)

Sadly, I'd probably sell my soul to EA as well for $600 million. That's a lot of cheezburgers.

My fear is a combination of things.....that have come together to create something that most certainly has existed before.

It's much like a perfect cocktail of............bad art.

I've been nervous to say anything because such a thing would take very specific people into account.

It would be better to wait for Monday.

I just.....hope that it isn't what I think it is.

Nah, spit it out now, and make a full post whenever. It's not like we'll have any more info between now and Monday anyways.

There can be nothing worse than what we have now.

The situation surrounding the EC can be disastrous though, which is why I told you to ask questions now.

I believe that the ending could have assuredly been much worse.  However, if you're saying that the extended cut can only improve on the current ending, and the way it communicates with the audience, I agree.

Easy enough to do when you know what's intended in the first place. You forget what the perspective of someone not "in-the-know" is going to be. Your brain just supplies the details that others don't have and you forget that not everyone else possesses them. In short, what seems blatantly obvious to you is not so much obvious to anyone else. That's why test audiences or test readers are so damn important!

It's sad too, because not having the Normandy crash scene, you take away a lot of the angst that people have about the ending. Knowing your crew didn't abandon you in the middle of the biggest moment in history to get back to nature on some random planet.

I've liked to believe that BioWare has had some master plan all along too. After 10 weeks of crazyness surrounding the ending, EA's stock slipping, death threats and the like, they haven't hinted with more than a few vague twitter posts that could be interpreted in many different ways that that's what's going on.

What i'm most worried about honestly is that by the time EC is released i'll finally be over the ending only to maybe be disappointed all over again. Hope that doesn't happen though, as I mentioned in Taboo's other post yesterday, the EC is going to be a defining moment for BioWare. They'll either make video game history or fall short again like they did with the ending.

Let me gather my notes and I'll prepare something for Monday. It's not something I look forward to posting as I have in the past, as I so enjoy hearing what other people have to say.

But when you start pointing fingers..........things get messy.

It isn't compelling. At all. Please do not assume that I think it is. I do this out of hesitation not some sort of sickening delight at watching people sit and squirm.

It makes me nervous. :(

You know what? Screw the Extended Cut. They can scrap the whole thing. I don't want it anymore.

Now I just want to know what the hell happened, where things went wrong, and why.
I want to know what went on behind the scenes. I want to know why things turned out as they did. I want to know what they were thinking when the created the last 15 or so minutes of the game.
I want the truth. The whole truth. And I would be willing to pay for it =)
That would be far more interesting to read about then what the EC could ever be,

Then speak in generalities. Everything can be reduced to a nonspecific concept.

Stop trying to make an argument. "I'm afraid that it's possible they could be trying to" do what?

You don't have to say why you think that or where you've seen it done before or in what context.

Bioware created something that part of the hardcore fanbase did not want.

And have suffered for it.

The root of the problem is right there.

Yup, and Hardcore entitlement has shown exactly why the game industry will always focus on the broader more casual players.

Sad but true. Im pretty sure that ME3 was the last true Mass Effect game we'll ever see. And it's even more sad that it had to end this way.
The next Mass Effect game we see will just have the label "Mass Effect" but it will probably be some RTS or MMO rubbish. Either that or a pure FPS shooter with much pew-pew and big explosions!

Who cares?  It's obvious the will and talent to make another ME1 or ME2 does not exist anymore.

It isn't what they are trying.

It's what has already transpired.

It has nothing to do with the extended cut.
