The Fatal/Incinerator romance pyramid attempt seems to be done. I see no further point in this thread.

What you've seen a case of disconnect so severe, so perpetually mind boggling that it has literally separated the type of art between consumer and creator.

We have a literal fault at the most basic, basic level. An attempt at something that is not possible in most situations and the ramifications of such a thing are rather depressing, but mostly for the audience.

I don't want to believe that they wanted this to happen, this monstrosity, this anger, this resentment. But I cannot pity them for something they created and caused themselves. We didn't start the fir but we sure as hell whipped it into a frenzy.

The implications are so amazingly terrifying.

I both depressed and fascinated at the same time.

So, what's your point, Taboo-XX? That they're going to spin their audience in circles and never actually deliver anything?

No.

What I am saying is that I believe in a root cause to the problem, one that has happened before. They can most certainly deliver but they must be fully aware of what got them there in the first place.

Do you think that BioWare's root cause was a true desire to deceive just for deceit's sake?

Because there are two types of deceit in this situation: the one that's needless, without gratification, and purely designed to incite the participants; and the one that's analytical, generates speculation, and might actually have a reward at the end.  In this experiment, you actually did something interesting: presented the opportunity for the second one, yet exacted the first one.

I sincerely believe that whatever might happen with what the extended cut delivers, they didn't want to just frustrate their audience by running them in misleading circles.  These people aren't malicious. They wanted them to actively and passionately interpret what's going on, and not follow PR around with pitchforks.

This is exatcly what I believe. But a disconnect has caused this to happen. One that has caused a very dark blemish to appear on Bioware's canvas. I know they care but I also know they are entirely human. One mistake can ruin a great deal.

All that effort and sacrifice to save the Galaxy and people Shepard loves is all for naught.  No matter the choice, we destroy it!  Shepard must pick a war crime to "win" the war and in so doing destroy everything he loves and fought for.

This is not victory, it is defeat.   Shepard doesn't go out like a hero but a war criminal.

We get the endings BW.  We care more about the ME Universe --and those who inhabit that virtual world-- than apparently you do.

Create was the  wrong word......I apologize.

A disconnect from what was marketable and what they believed they wanted.

They have every right to do what they want and the public has every right to not like it.

That is the creation I've seen. An entirely new animosity and distrust.

Melodramatic as it may be it was something I was not willing to do lightly as I didn't feel that it was appropriate at the time. I cannot simply make rash judgements willy nilly as all that does is spread fear. I do not want to descend futher down the spiral than I already have and end up like someone who makes silly judgments off of small bits of information. If you want me to stop being vague you need to tell me so and do so explicitly. I cannot tell the tone of your voice on the internet.

Therein lies one of the inherent problems with this experiment, on a practical level: you had no intention of delivering anything at the end of it, so the implication leads into the idea that BioWare actually has no intention to delivering anything---only that they want to confuse until a conflagration point where people stop caring. You don't actually think they're that malicious, do you?

But what do you think is the root of it? You clearly think there's somebody pulling the strings, but isn't it more likely a drive for speculation (and also the ability to close off a story without actually closing it yourself) led them to this?

I'd be more inclined to think this was an effort to save them from bad writing. They didn't know what to do, so they thought they could get away with doing nothing (and shifting the burden to the audience to decide the true fate).

And this is basically what Final Hours tells us. They had some ideas but couldn't ever figure out what to do, so they just chopped and chopped and chopped until they had a bare scaffold of an ending left that provided nothing of actual substance to the viewer beyond some vague and inappropriate themes.

You really think somebody made the decision to BS for the sake of BS in order to... to what? Engender a positive outcry? To head off something else that was coming? What would you assume is the rationale for somebody purposely driving the team toward this?

Taboo, when you post something on Monday, l'll be reading it because you seem to have some type of educated opinion about this but for Christ's sake, please leave the ambiguity to yourself. We're just going around in circles and straying from the whole point of you making this thread in the first place.

Don't you see that that's his whole point about Bioware's PR?  He's been illustrating it with his posts.

Illustrating absurdity by being absurd.

Fair enough, I guess.  Personally, I think BW proved that point with their actual ****footing. Didn't think that needed to be copied. Seems redundant.

Taboo, I give you the benefit of the doubt. I'll wait to read about whatever insight you have.

Many more. You should probably tell me via PM. I have several other people who ask me questions to. This is my fault and I admit fully to it but all I can do is ask you to be more direct.

The ending could have literally been anything, and a pocket of people would have liked or accepted it. Whatever they went for, they can't possibly have thought this would go well with the majority of it's fanbase. The series was mainly for popcorn and a Big Gulp. then at the last minute, it belongs in the little theatre with the artsy crowd discussing it's deepness.

Malicious? No. Human? Yes.

I've seen artists create things that directly antagonize their audiences but Bioware would never be as foolhardy or cruel to do something as such. I believe that they made a mistake and that it hasn't been rectified yet, and that they will hopefully achieve said goal with the EC.

I am however, very bothered by what I see the other employees saying. One person can reflect on the whole of Bioware and they have shown time and time again to handle the situation in a less than satisfactory manner for a great number of people.
