Damn. Now that I think about I have no reason to use Angelopoulos. I had to import his films from the UK because I couldn't buy them here.

Someone give me a director that has a recognizable style. I probably won't be able to give you one that everyone will like.

Sorry about that.

Refn?

Hmmmm. I'd like to use Refn but I have only seen Drive. I should probably watch that Pusher Trilogy and Valhalla Rising.

Kubrick? Too vauge.

Dang. I promise I'm trying to this with someone that everyone can go "AH YES" I know what that means.

I can give you one that everyone dislikes.... Michael Bay... it's alwatys explosions and bigger explosions with him.

I like Bay's movies for those days when I just don't give a **** about story or characters and just want to watch **** explode.

Your argument is invalid.

Whoever doesn't like Ridley Scott is a blasphemer.

My argument is never invalid,  explosions don't make the crap he puts out any better.  He's had three good movies, maybe four if you include Transformers.

I felt this was relevant.

Coppola.......Coppola.

I don't pick up a visual style with Coppola . He shifts around to much. Inconsistent.

Finally something we can reach consensus on.

That's true, he does skip around quite a bit with his directing styles... What about Cameron?

Cameron......unknown. Viable only for amazing technological advancements. Have not analyzed his films.

Scott shifts around to. Can detect recurring theme in his work though. Mothers.

Good is a revevant term, if we're comparing his worth to his movie's quality then he is lacking. If we are comparing his worth in terms of box office sales, he is in the top five.

Just sayin, for better or worse.

Sam Peckinpah has a regonizable syle.

Explicit violence. Slow motion.

Director of The Wild Bunch?

Probably a bit TOO gruesome for most though.

Go with Fincher, then.

Also, watch Valhalla Rising this very moment.

How about Michael Mann?

I think the only Mann film I've seen is The Last of the Mohicans. I REALLY REALLY need to see Heat sometime.

I haven't seen anything from Fincher that I haven't seen in Kubrick. He is more depressing though.

Kurosawa?

I have YET to meet someone who dislikes him.

****, i got it... go with Uwe Boll, at least his consistency for making ****ty videogame adaptations would fit well with what you want to do that and ME3's ****ty ending...... And every videogamer knows who the dreaded Uwe Boll is....

Nobody watches his movies unless they are high as ****. Because if you are sober you kill yourself.

Michael Bay films are good for when I want to watch something that requires little brainpower and has lots of stuff going BOOOM! It's the film equivalent of a candy bar. Zero nutritional value, but still fun to eat.

Also, Taboo .... about your posts. My internal monologue is now using Mordin's voice to read them. It's very bizarre since I can't quite tell when this happened.

Uwe Boll is terrible. Please do not bring Uwe Boll up.

I need a director whose films are recognizable to everyone but aren't in the vein of someone like Spielberg, simply because is FAR to simple for what I'm looking for.

Was going to suggest JJ Abrams, but if you want someone 'universally' liked, he's probably not the best example...

Certainly not as far as I'm concerned - IMO, he's a blight on genre filmmaking. I've yet to see a sci-fi project with him/Damon Lindelof/Bob Orci/Alex Kurtzman attached where I didn't feel insulted by how moronic* the storytelling was...

*as in, 'Catalyst'-level moronic. ;)

Exactly why I love Bay, I watch his stuff for escape. For my contemplative modes I watch Scott and some other good directors.

Fincher takes much from Kubrick, but he's sparser, somehow, and more consistent in his visuals.

Also, see not only Heat, but Collateral as well, if only for what Mann did with his new cameras.

Better one - Tarantino. Love him or hate him (me, I'm casually indifferent, m'self...), you've got to admit, the guy has a distinctive style...
