I won't dare to have any hope towards the EC. Some of us feel betrayed and ignored. Some even feel like they had been made fun of by certain spokespersons from Bioware.
We were promised a lot of things, yet they never were delivered. When we asked why, we got ignored. When we were too many to be ignored, we were treated like spoiled children.
Unless some of the important questions are answered truthfully, with answers that are not evading the question or without any real content, I won't be satisfied with an EC providing "clarity and closure" only. I am almost counting on Bioware to disappoint (us) me again. But this time I'll be ready for it.
I have zero expectations for the PR campaign. I simply do not care. I am in it for the SP game experience itself. Nothing more, nothing less. I do not care about MP.
BioWare has sufficient feedback to consider as they work on EC to make up for the incongruous trainwreck of an ending that shipped with the game. I would rather have them focus on content than engaging with a disgruntled fanbase that is ready to pounce on any official or unofficial statement, dissect it, and get even more hysterical.
I believe that the good folks at BioWare (and their EA overlords) understand what's wrong with the current ending. It is an ending which belongs to a Twighlight Zone short story, and not tacked to the end of an epic tale. Either they fix it, and I stay (buy more DLC) in the ME universe, or they "clarify" the current ending and I'm out (don't buy any DLC).

Not sure what the fuss is about then, based on that tweet from Chris.
The fuss comes from the bizarre nature of the action itself.

Reading that thread, and the tweets and crap. All they are doing is basic double-speak in my opinion. They are just baiting us being obtuse to keep talking about it, speculating about it and keeping the media's eye on it. Cause they know they can make a killing if this works correctly.

Such a thing would be foolhardy at this time without any sufficient content to share.
They can however, let information trickle down.
Silence causes distrust.
Did they really believe that people would simply stay and be quiet without any news for four or five months?

What's wrong with giving people some hope that it will work correctly? Remove some of the ammunition from those who are very, very sceptical about the EC. Give some reason for the people who no longer like you to start liking you again instead of encouraging them to dislike you even further.Mylia Stenetch wrote...

Such as whether actors have been called into record dialogue? You realize they had to be permitted---and were, likely, encouraged---to mention those things, right?

A killing on what? The DLC is free and it's not likely to make anyone go out and buy a new copy. If anything they are simply trying to keep people interested so they have a chance of selling any post EC DLC.Mylia Stenetch wrote...

That's exatcly what I meant.
It's no different than an actor tweeting an on set photo.
The problem is that they also release statments that rustle people around, which isn't good.

It would at least be nice if the few replies we do get could be consistent.
Now one person says one thing and second person implies another thing. And later on that first person retract what he said earlier and claims something completely different to what he first said.
Lots of confusion for everyone!

And to do that it'll have to satisfy the people who are very unhappy right now (no point in it satisfying the people who aren't). That's about the one last remaining reason I've got to hope that the EC won't be a disaster but I'm not confident. BW are starting to sound like a member of some weird religious sect who keeps shouting out about how they know the truth and everyone else should embrace it, blind to logic or reason about their position.Atakuma wrote...

I didn't demand anything.
The degree in which you speak of doesn't mean squat because it has no bearing on how he should write.
I went to college for psychology too but it doesn't make me a better writer.

Ah, you lack of perspicacity reveals your motivations. You assume I care about what degrees they have. I am simply astounded that he did not consider the ramifications from a business perspective. One does not need a psychology degree to know this.
Furthermore if you have been paying attention I did not "wet my pants" over the endings. I support more information. I do not support the people who wish to hold their wallet but I do not support the people who are grasping at as many straws in an attempt to understand the ending.
I have my own motivations but they do not fall exclusivly into either group.

You know what. I'm done with this company. I'm sick and tired of them treating their fans with open contempt. They don't have to change their ending., I also don't have to buy any more of their products. That isn't the issue. Think hard about why and then come back. It has everything to do with art but not the kind they seem to think they're making.

Fascinating.
Why?
Seriously though, the first thing that came into my mind when i became aware of the ending catastrophe was why for ****'s sake would they do this?
In my opinion and throughout my life they why of things has been the most important question to pose.
They had created a beautiful, diverse, touching sci fi world that so many have lived in for countless hours.
And they literally crapped on it in the last several minutes.....
So why did they do this?

I know for a fact that movie producers will change endings based upon ONE bad screening and said theatre can contain only one hundred people. Those films cost, far, far more to make than games and are almost always hinged upon whether or not a test audience likes them. Sixty thousand people is more than enough for a sample size. I know Harvey Weinstein does what he does because I've seen him do it. Mr. Weinstein has changed films on far, far less terms.
...
Isn't the difference though that those movies still haven't had their run in theaters, so their profitability is still undecided? So it would be in the film makers' best interest to provide a product that would be as positively received as possible.
In ME3's case, however, the marketing promised that players would receive the kind of product that they would be happy with and that's what many people based their buying decision on (in addition to the success of the previous two games). A lot of copies were pre-ordered or bought upon release, so BW already has that money. Sure there were some returns, and sales dropped off because of the outcry and bad customer reviews, and future sales might be impacted by this whole debacle and especially if the EC makes people angry instead of satisfied. And I think this is why they are making the EC, not because they are actually admitting that they made a mistake. From what I've seen so far, their attitude is that the fans are stupid without any imagination and BW has to explain to them what the endings meant so that they would finally shut up and go away. Of course this is quite a shortsighted view, because if all they really do is explain the endings they might have another uproar on their hands.
But we are not there with them in their offices so we can't know what exactly they are thinking and what are the issues they are dealing with: legal stuff, ego, the future profitability of their DLCs, games and merchandise, etc.
My feeling is that in the EC they will backpedal on things to make the endings less bleak (the Mass Relays' explosion was a "special kind", not like in The Arrival; no, the fleets stranded around Earth will not starve, etc. etc.). But we'll just have to wait and see.
As for them asking questions and listening, countless threads have already told them what people want - or expect - so I think they do know what the fans would like to see in the EC. Whether or not they will actually take these wishes into consideration, well, we'll see.
