Becuase their "work" is sending mixed messages from what they've said it should send.   What's in ME3 now paints a very bleak view of post-war life:  Relays destroyed, millions stranded to starve, galactic dark ages, your crew abandononed you in your most desperate hour, etc.

Destroyed relays lead to super-novas
The Normady and crew RAN AWAY
The Citadel & Relays are destroyed (Star-brat even tells us they will be)

But we're now told we weren't supposed to infer that from the ending... WTF?!

I know for a fact that movie producers will change endings based upon ONE bad screening and said theatre can contain only one hundred people. Those films cost, far, far more to make than games and are almost always hinged upon whether or not a test audience likes them. Sixty thousand people is more than enough for a sample size. I know Harvey Weinstein does what he does because I've seen him do it. Mr. Weinstein has changed films on far, far less terms.

...

Isn't the difference though that those movies still haven't had their run in theaters, so their profitability is still undecided? So it would be in the film makers' best interest to provide a product that would be as positively received as possible.

They use it to gauge what the reaction of a mass audience will be. Games need to start doing this.

Had this been checked with certain people before hand.......

The Devs answer every person that demands attention and responses, they wont have time to work on EC.

We fans generated quite a storm, if I were them I would ignore the fans after telling them what I was going to do to get it out as quickly as possible.

That's why PR people are hired.  And since folks are on here complaining and asking to be paid attention to, still.  They really don't need to worry because if you're here you'll know when they are done and will go look at the finished product.

A killing on what? The DLC is free and it's not likely to make anyone go out and buy a new copy. If anything they are simply trying to keep people interested so they have a chance of selling any post EC DLC.

And to do that it'll have to satisfy the people who are very unhappy right now (no point in it satisfying the people who aren't). That's about the one last remaining reason I've got to hope that the EC won't be a disaster but I'm not confident. BW are starting to sound like a member of some weird religious sect who keeps shouting out about how they know the truth and everyone else should embrace it, blind to logic or reason about their position.

It's rather sad to see how Bioware standing by their work is somehow seen as them being either delusional, or arrogant.

That isn't the issue. Think hard about why and then come back. It has everything to do with art but not the kind they seem to think they're making.

I don't need to think about it, I've said my piece. If you have a response then stop dancing around it and just make it.

Meh, I don't want this EC already. I want Patrick Weekes' memoirs about wtf happened during the ME3 development.
With photos and without censorship. B)
I'm not sure when top secret documents are available to the public. 20 years?
Patrick, you have one hell of a story to tell.

What amazes me more is how much fight I actually HAVE.

Fascinating.

Why?  :D

Seriously though, the first thing that came into my mind when i became aware of the ending catastrophe was why for ****'s sake would they do this?

In my opinion and throughout my life they why of things has been the most important question to pose.

They had created a beautiful, diverse, touching sci fi world that so many have lived in for countless hours.
And they literally crapped on it in the last several minutes.....
So why did they do this?:crying:

This.

I can't seriously believe that as large a group of people as a writing team, a quality control group and the playtesters you assume they had to have working on this project would all think this was acceptable.

So, the question remains ... why? How? I'm sure there's a book there somewhere. Image IPB

I wish my heart would just let me give up Bioware for good.. But with this EC going on, it feels like constantly being pit between 2 opposing emotions: one is being HOPE that EC's going to be good and the other is FEAR that the EC will hurt me more.

Summed it up perfectly.

Exactly. I have a feeling of intense hope and intense hatred for the EC and everything Mass Effect related.

Mh. Maybe they are doing it on purpose. Could be they got long-term contracts with EA, but really want out from under their thumb, so need to give them (EA) a valid reason to lay off the entire staff at once.

Or maybe they really just don't get it. Who knows at this point? My guess is that not even all BiowarEA know what's going on and just act as ordered.

Much speculation from everybody.

I have much to say but what you take and infer from it is up to you.

I don't ask anyone to believe anything, I merely state an opinion.

You have elected to ask questions, which is your right.

The implications are beginning to form in my head.

I HAVE seen this before.

But I can't be certain until the EC is released.

I can't possibly see how it could get any worse. Not with the amount of eyes currently on the devs.

Concerning Priestly's question, I'm beginning to come to the conclusion that it's PR prep for post-release of the EC. The ME team wants to get all of their ducks in a row, this time.

They've had two months to get a clear image of what people "want." I believe the final draft has been penned, VA's have been recorded, and now they're working on polishing the content and implementing it into the game. We'll probably get an ETA come E3.

OP, your fears aren't unfounded. While I still don't understand the latent fear you're harboring, I'm going to hold onto my fool's hope that the ME devs genuinely care about fan feedback, the EC will be some kind of reflection of that, and that the current ending was a tragic mistake originating from a fast-approaching deadline and an unchecked Hudson.

That's all I can really do at this point... I'm getting tired of voicing my criticisms to a brick wall.

I'm kinda confused by this cryptic, I-have-a-secret stance on your interpretation of what's going on behind the scenes, especially since it requires for you to see how it pans out to offer your ... uh, insight.  But okie-dokey. Enjoy what you know.

Why are the endings the way they are?

Why do you feel it has to be this way?

Did you expect us to enjoy whatever came out?

Did you expect we wouldn't want closure?

Who wrote "X" section(s)?

I can't wait for someone @BioWare ot either be fired or quit and then spill the beans about these things.
Even if a disgruntled former employee isn't the best of sources, it would make a very interesting read.

I'm extremely curious about how a group of obviously very talented professional writers could sit down and squeeze out a steaming pile of plothole-ridden and inconsistent piece of poo, and then agree that it was good enough to publish!?!
Even though it's been accepted for something like 4000 years that a "deus ex machina" isn't good writing, it's bad writing.

I've had huge respect for the writers of the ME games, again and again they proved that they could bring tears to my eyes (Rannoch, Tuchanka, Shep & Andersons conversation before the Catalyst etc.), but then I.... "experienced" the ending, and that respect was all but gone.
(I know different people wrote different things, so I shouldn't generalize like this, but I will anyway because I can).

You know what. I'm done with this company. I'm sick and tired of them treating their fans with open contempt. They don't have to change their ending., I also don't have to buy any more of their products. When your company goes belly up I hope you remember why it happened, it was because you bit the hands that fed you.

They do no such thing, and even if they did, it would make sense seeing as how many of their "fans" treat them.

They flat out lied to their consumers multiple times before the game came out, even mere weeks before it came out then treated their consumers with contempt and derision when those consumers called them on it. Mev's summary is not innacurate to their behavior.

You asked me about Lars von Trier and then went moot on the subject once I elaborated on my poorly worded post.

You then sprung back much like a cat.

I cannot offer a response to something that you chose not to respond to.

I expect the star-brats logic to make sense instead of the illogical mess it is now.
I expect it to fit into the ME lore.
I expect, even if Shepard dies, for closure with my team and LI.
I expect for my squad and crew not for abandon Shepard and leave him to die alone
I expect a way to SAVE the galaxy from the Reapers that doesn't destroy the Relays and Citadel
I expect for Control, Destroy, and Synthesis to be less repulsive then they are now via better explanations to their functions and outcomes. Higher EMS makes for better endings.

I WANT to avoid stabbing my allies in the back to Destroy the Reapers even if it means Shepard must die in their place
I WANT to be able tell the Reapers to GTFO of my galaxy and not have to die to do it
I WANT, if Shepard must die, to die next to his LI (Like this pic)
