 Just completed a play through with my male Shepard that romanced Ashley in ME and Miranda in ME2. I went back to Ashley and broke Miranda's heart (was so hard not to reload save). Miranda died in my arms on Sanctuary saying she wanted Ori to have the marriage and kids she never could. That was a gut-wrenching scene to go through. I made up my mind to choose Synthesis at the end and all was going as planned until I spoke to Ashley on Earth and we said our good-byes. When she said,"Don't go." I realized I couldn't go through with it and chose Destroy so Shepard would survive. 

Besides the fact that I'm a sappy fella, I just couldn't bring myself to the point where I could sacrifice Shepard for Synthesis when she said that. Thank you BioWare for giving my Shepard a reason to come back to my girl.

Let's hope the EC will enhance the endings so Shepard gets reunited with the Normandy's crew and the LI in case he survives. Well ... technically no one knows how Shepard made it back to Earth in the destruction ending, so they easily could add a bit space-magic to the other endings as well

By the way: I think if I had a playthrough with Ash -> Miranda, I would stay with Miri - just to avoid her death. I just have Ash-loyal playthroughs so I won't have to "go back" and break poor Miranda's heart - and she lives too. Seriously. I had to sacrifice Kaidan already, I don't want to have Mirandas blood on Shepard's hands for Ash too.

Just the way she rests her head on your shoulder in bed when you wake up from the dream and the way she just tries to comfort him. Then as you're off to the beam she begs you not to go, my determination for Synthesis faltered and my resolve to come back was absolute. Was a perfect scene and fit with all the myriad experiences my Shepard has been through. Then the real heartbreaker when the music started up...

You do know Ash is now stuck on a random planet while smiling at Joker? She looks pretty happy for a gal who lost her love.

The point I was trying to make wasn't that it ends well, but that the romance between Ashley and Shepard was a strong enough bond that Shepard couldn't sacrifice himself. Maybe the EC will give a little more on that outcome, but even if it doesn't I'm still glad that I made the choice.

Yep, same here. Garrus told Shep to come back alive, and she wouldn't have it any other way.

One of the reasons I was going to go with Synthesis was to atone for that, Crutch.

if you tell miranda you still want to be with her on the citadel you can still go on and be with ash after and miranda wont die

Edit: I could go back, but that would cheapen his decision. Will remember that for future playthroughs.

yeah. i did it without knowing first time round when i romanced liara me1 miranda me2, told miranda nothings changed, didnt sleep with her later on or owt and carried on my liara romance, no dead miranda!

Or you know, break it off in ME2 when she hasn't had six months to invest in this (even if they weren't together) and she's like "fine, whatever".

Also though I sense this will lead to a discussion of the insufferable RGB, how exactly does Synthesis make up for Miranda dying?

When she said "I don't want you to go" it took everything I had in me not to shed manly tears. Damn you, Bioware! Totally influenced my decision for destroy and I felt like such a wimp lol. However once EC comes out I think I'll do another full playthrough.

I had to do it for Ash.

Had to die, killing off Geth not an option. Systematically annihilated them for an entire game without question. Shepard should rightfully be dead anyway.

I mean, if you're loyal to Ash, there's the scene on Mars where Shep says that Ash is what he's fighting for. So yeah, he's coming back to her.
