Uhm, Mass Effect developers or EA publishers, mind explaining this? So the people were right all along about the launch day DLC rip-off, yet they were being treated as idiots that the DLC 'was not a big deal' and 'developed after the game was finished'? While the CEO of EA just declared that everyone was fooled and paid €15-20 extra?

This is officially the last game I have bought with the EA logo attached to it. (Mass Effect 3) Those corrupt pigs don't deserve my money anymore.

EA's CEO John Riccitiello gloated over the 40% attachment rate to the day-one DLC for Mass Effect 3, "From Ashes"...DLC that was later proven to have been cut from the game and sold back to gamers as premium content.

"The other key thing is selling digital content on the day of launch...When we sold Mass Effect 3 back in March, we saw a 40 percent attach rate that first week to DLC at GameStop in the United States. Not only are you selling a $60 game...you're selling $20 DLC, so the sale becomes $80,"

The common argument has been "Don't like it, don't buy it." However that's far from the truth. A lot of gamers love Mass Effect, Street Fighter etc,. etc,. so when you find out some vital component for expanding the lore or enabling you to play as your favorite fighter is not part of the main game but instead bundled into a $10 or $20 DLC package it essentially means you're at a crossroad to either fork over extra cash for something you do like or simply not experience it at all. Based on Moore's words you can bet your bottom dollar that EA won't be abandoning day-one DLC anytime soon.

If Warner Bros. tried to theater-lock the ending to The Dark Knight Rises and then had ushers come in and say "Yeah, um, we're gonna need $6.99 before you can see the last ten minutes of the movie...it's just extra, you don't need to pay for it, it's optional. But um, yeah, we're gonna need that $6.99, otherwise GTFO!" you can bet your bottom dollar and a Better Business Bureau rating that movie critics, journalists and bloggers alike would royally crucify Warner Bros.

Awaiting official response.

You might be waiting a long time for an official response, you have to remember that five years ago Riccitiello was quoted as saying "$60 is too much for video games".

He seriously said that..? And now he says the exact opposite? That they would like to sell games at $80, but because they cannot do that, they sell launch-day DLC with it?

What has become of EA... I loved the games they made so much, also, their way of marketing.. But that all changed since This generation of consoles.

And the whole 40% is sucked from the loyal consumers/fans...

EA and Bioware do care about their fans these days. *cough*
Altough they listened to the outcry of the ending, they never listened to this shocking revelation from their own CEO damnit.

At least he was a awesome character.

Doesn't bother me any though, he was free in CE. Call me crazy but I gladly give Bioware another $10 on such a wonderful game...

But yea, I can see why people would be upset over that. Game content should never be cut at retail and resold. Especially since games are already $59.99 in US.

I don't fault Bioware in this. It's likely EA's decision and nothing Bioware can do about it. I'm not going to get mad or boycott Bioware just because their publisher wants extra money. I can't boycott EA, otherwise I damage my favorite dev...

Well, I like DLC, it keeps the game Fresh. Imo, how they handled the Mass Effect 2 DLC was spot on. Free DLC, mixed with paid DLC and keeping every single DLC awesome was perfect. But I got over the fact that ME3 released Launch day DLC, it wasn't vital to the story and, according to an official bioware response, it was created after the game was finished.

Now suddenly, the big gap that is called a mouth from one of the CEO's from EA says the complete opposite. He says the EXACT same thing everyone was accusing Bioware and EA off, but they shrug it off, keeping the 'crowd' at ease by, what now looks like, a lie. A lie from one of my favourite developers... That hurts, allot, especially since they rely on us, the consumers, for feeding their families.

Yeah, I hate to see one of my favorite Devs going down, but they took the risk of signing with EA and that risk is losing allot of faithfull customers just because of the 'extra' money EA gives for development. The risk that is clearly now showing effect across the globe. Bioware lost allot of respect from me (and others) because of what the CEO said. (EA already lost respect since this generation of games/consoles, but thats another story)

EA: Assuming controll.
Bioware to its customers: The only way forward is to work together! Don't you people see?!

Lol, kind of ironic actually, how their game is about indoctrination, while more-or-less they have fallen for lies and deception as well. :P
