Just some observations.

I was just walking around Normandy before Rannoch Geth Server mission when I heard faint voices. Either laughter or crying, possibly both. Faint enough that you hardly heard it. There are some other strange noises inside Normandy as well.

Of course it could just be the ship noises and crew, but the ship seems so empty.

Also what is the purpose of Life Support room? I don't remember single event taking place there.

Has the engine's hum actually increased through game and is it different from ME 2?

There's also a sound that is like insect flapping its wings.

EDIT:

It would be helpful for data gathering purposes, if posters who try to listen for the noises would say at which point of the game they heard/didn't heard noises.

Some videos provided by people posting in this thread:

Here's the video:

I've put a replay button at the description just at the moment of the laugh. It's between seconds 00:01 and 00:02. You have to listen to it with headphones and full volume.

I just recorded another creepy laugh in front of Javik's door! But it's too late here (2:30 a.m.) and I'll upload it tomorrow, I promise.

Ok, I uploaded it, but going to sleep now. You can hear a laugh between 00:22 and 00:23.

Speculate!

Next video is before priority Earth mission, frequency of laughters occurring seem to have increased:

The sounds I heard around the crew deck weren't the same as the kid's laughter. Or maybe they are and I can't hear that, I don't have anything to enhance the sound, sorry.

To me, it's just ambient sounds of people laughing around the crew deck..

Source of mystery footsteps discovered using flycam:

EDIT:

Some additional observations made by yours truly.

Ok, I played some more and could not hear the footstep sounds anywhere on captain's cabin on two separate saves. Then I took save from different Shepard just before Priority Earth mission, and there it was, clear as day. I could literally heard footsteps all the time near the radio.

I also went and listened some more on engine deck, and the engine does have some slight ominous background hum which gave me creeps. However, it didn't seem to be different from save to another. And ME 2 had some backgroud hum on engine as well. Not quite sure if it is different.

I also visited crew deck on ME 2 and it was filled with constant crew chatter, not silence and occassional laughter like in ME 3 (and you can hear the laughter from Engine deck in ME 3).

Well I really didn't notice the strange noises but the life support is empty because none are worthy to take Thane's spot

Audio or video or I'm afraid I can't believe you.

I did notice the sudden hum in the Normandy. But if you can prove whispers can be heard, then you may have a good point for the IT.

I thought it was kind of interesting you can almost hear Vigil (ME1 menu song) inside the war room, the slighted filtered and slowed version they use often in ME3. I might be imagining it but I swear you can hear the first motif of that song inside that room.

If they are there (I have never heard them), I'd wager just ambient noise from a ship that has people in it. People talk, watch movies, listen to comms, etc.

They're definitely saving the life support area for when Aria becomes a temporary squad made for the Omega DLC.

Hmm, maybe it is nothing. I could hear the insect flapping sound near the gun battery in both ME 2 and 3. And I'm not sure if the engine sound is different.

I think Aria rather spends her time on Normandy's bar.

Not going to provide them, you can hear the "whispers" yourself in the crew deck part.

Maybe the room that you're playing in is haunted?

The Normandy has gotten quieter with each game. In ME1, (especially now with the PC glitch), the thing practically roars.

Perhaps I'll do some improvised rummaging around the bird and see if I can pick up on anything.

Ok, I'm playing today to hear that noises, and he's correct. Near the battery room, you can clearly hear something similar to insect wings, and the whispers in the Crew area too (but this one I had to hear it with headphones). I just **** myself.

Interesting. I'll check it myself tommorrow. On the other hand- every time I was on Normandy I had feeling "something's not right here- something small is wrong but I don't actually know what it is..."

I was too distracted by the crappy lighting to notice any strange noises on the Normandy. Did the Alliance seriously have to rape my ship?

Interesting, I'll try to hear these things... by the way, one thing I noticed in the captain's cabin: footsteps coming from behind the walls; apparently it's a bug due to the normandy sharing all floor as one map... but I think it's a creepy detail.

I got news for you, if Aria's going anywhere it's going to be the airlock, just so she doesn't forget the Normandy's one rule...
