I think it's random. I was touring the Normandy and when I got to my quarters I heard a child running and laughing.

I'm listening now to the kid's laugh and I'm just after completing the Geth Dreadnought mission. I don't know if that can be heard before.

It wasn't much like the sounds from Shep's dream (can't remember clearly, it only happened to me once) it was more like footsteps outside Shep's quarters and some laughing/giggling

Pick up a copy of sony vegas *somewhere* and use that, or you could convert it with vdubmod that's free on sourceforge - pm me if you need help getting it converted, I want to hear :lol:

edit: Actually, handbrake's a MUCH better shout for this kind of thing.

On a side note, has anyone ever been able to get behind the screen in Javik's room? I once was running in circles as he talked, then managed to get on his sink and somehow clip behind it. As I walked around back there eventually I fell out of the ship completely and died. Never been able to reproduce that.

It is a bit weird even for a texture bug or something, but they're definetly not the dream trees. The trees in the vid have leaves, like the ones all over the presidium.

Now that you mention it, it IS extremely odd that he's almost always surrounded by some kind of foliage; when you very first see him, and in all the dreams, and now in the Catalyst chamber. Even in the middle of a city there, when he could have just been playing on some random, bare rooftop, no, they specifically put a rooftop garden there. Where a garden wouldn't normally be; much like there's a garden in space in the Catalyst chamber. I personally think they kept those trees there as an easter egg of sorts -- the fact that they're translucent and change in intensity depending on your EMS is pretty telling as well.

I hear you. I'm not anti- or for IT but I like seeing what people can come up with. I wish I could have been a fly on Bioware's wall during production to hear their thoughts on the story telling element of why certain sounds or dialogue were used and all the different ending ideas they had. Plus exactly why they went with the ending they did out of all the options they came up with. I'm extremely curious on what they'll do for the DLC. Run with the indoctrination theory, expand on a different ending they might have used, or just add some clips of  the crew and other races in the aftermath.

I know folks don't like the end but wow IT believers this is getting silly. Measuring sound frequencies etc...do you really think anyone would spend time hiding sounds in the background? This is a nice example of confirmation bias.

Edit: music and sounds have always been a big asset to storytelling so it's very probable the noises were placed on purpose.

A peep? If you listen carefully at second 00:01 there's clearly a voice. If you hear a peep or a noise like that I can't help you with that.

The "whisper" sounds seem to be only heard around the messdeck (where people socialize) and in the gun battery, and they sound like people laughing. I'd say they're just ambient sounds to show people are chatting, watching vids and such. The sounds of wings flapping sound more like space rodents to me, or sparks, and they seem to only be heard around the sleeper pods and the gun battery. I don't think there's anything special about those though.

The life support room looks like an interrogation room now, maybe we'll have to interrogate Marauder Shields in a future DLC!

@Salaya: Thanks for mentioning the sounds of footsteps in the Captain's quarters! I never noticed before. It definitely makes the place scarier, as if it wasn't creepy enough already, with that window staring into space, waiting for something to creepily jump at it, and with EDI hearing and watching everything..

Ok, I heard those, too, along the hallway towards Liara's office. I interpretated it just as women's laughter, but didn't find it similar to the Child's laughter. But maybe it's better to listen to in-game.
