Typical EA.

Whenever I read anything they do, I just shake my head.

Isn't free server support for multiplayer inferred in the sales contract? If not, I'd claim there has been a "mistake", nullifying the sales contract.

So I take it you haven't read the article linked by John Epler?

Typical EA move is typical - but don't kid yourself that EA is the only game company doing this. It's becoming a trend across the entire industry to take you for everything you got - not that this was never the goal in the past, but it's probably worse now than it's ever been.

Given the incredible windfall players have been getting in value re: games this past decade (as cost of production have skyrocketed and prices have stayed stagnant) it's pretty easy to see why companies are trying to find alternative revenue streams.

How is that showing they are the worst company?

If anything it just shows that the consumer will pay for anything and EA is merely reacting to this.  You can't fault a company since all companies first concern is the bottom line.

Companies are made out of humans, which are moral entities. If you choose to be selfish and greedy, you deserve blame. Doesn't matter what you are running.

The question is, is there actually still a demand for the unpaid EA servers? Did they cut a few empty ones and that's it? Also, is the only way to create a custom server to pay a monthly few? That would be bad in and of itself.
