I bought Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition from Steam last year and it worked perfectly (win7x64). Then I got some games on Origin and figured I could register the key there as well, for the sake of prettiness (I like having the entire series on one platform). I uninstalled the Steam version since eventhough Origin recognises the install, it will start up Steam to load DA:O. So I downloaded it again through Origin.

Then I got the dlc authentication issue. Not knowing there was a patch that might fix this (hey, Origin is set on "keep my games up to date" Why would I search for patches manually?!), I uninstalled the game again, hoping another fresh install might fix that problem.

Rebooting my pc for good measure (previous installations were months apart), I let Origin download the game again. This time I couldn't even begin running the game:

"There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game."

Well, sometimes files get corrupted I thought, lets uninstall and download it again. Thing is, eventhough Origin tells me it's installed since I see the play button instead of the download one, DA:O is nowhere to be found in my programs list. However, I can run the launcher and config through the "install" folder. Trying to start the game still results in the same error. Then I just deleted the 27GB folder in my Origin games folder, the complete folder in my documents and removed the Origin installation files.

I redownloaded and "installed" (not getting in my programs list) the game 2 more times (rebooting between) before I gave up. I've looked for some answers through Google, but none were helpful:

- Rebooting pc a million times
- Use Ccleaner between installs
- Went through the "install in this order" guide and didn't help
- Reinstalled Adobe AIR
- Checked for driver updates
- Solution involving activation.exe and a file that was supposed to redirect to it. The lines I had to look for in the file did not exist. I added them myself but it was no use.

Something I didn't do:
- Mess with the registery. This solution was given for digital downloads from certain platforms, but Steam wasn't named.

After days of trying to find solutions, I gave up on playing this game on Origin. I deleted everything Dragon Age: Origins related and installed it through Steam again. Needless to say the game ran immediately. I had the dlc authentication problem but here's an easy guide to fix it:
http://forums.steamp...d.php?t=1681276

So, some final notes:
1. The Origin install is for some reason very fail.
2. Steam updates only to v1.04. When I try to install v1.05 from http://social.biowar...page/da-patches it says it's not for Steam versions. But I guess that's not really a problem since it only fixes the dlc thing anyway.
3. Eventhough Dragon Age: Origins wasn't in my installed programs list, I could actually run that v1.05 patch and it worked. So for some strange reason it could find the "installation".
4. I can run the game through Origin fine. Steam gives an application load error, but I can click it away and it runs normally.
5. Origin could use a "repair installation" and "update" option. The only game with a repair option is ME3 in my Origin list.

Anyway, I'm playing through Steam again. It would be nice to have some final fix to be able to play the game through Origin without it needing Steam in between, but I'm not expecting some magical answer anymore.

I also hate messing with the Registry. But I do think it might be related to your problem. WHile it is scary to edit the Registry without expert knowledge, it's not too difficult to back up the registry or set a system restore point before doing so.
