Recently, Netflix Canada started offering the T.V. show Odyssey 5, created by Manny Coto.  I spent a few weeks watching it (it was only 1 season before it was cancelled), and I've noticed quite a few similarities to ME3, and the ending.  This thread will be heavy on spoilers from the show, so be warned if you haven't watched it.  I really recommend watching it, despite it being only a season.  It was a great show, with amazing writing.

The show starts off with the 5 man team of the space-shuttle Odyssey,  lead by Commander Chuck Taggert, placing a satellite in orbit.  The satellite is called "Bright Sky".  Soon after, Earth is destroyed and they're left as the last survivors of the human race.  An alien AI arrives at the remains of the planet, and tells the team that he can send them back in time 5 years to prevent the disaster from occurring.   Furthermore, the alien AI tells them that every time he has attempted to encounter an advanced civilization, all he has found is the rubble from the destruction of their homeworld.  He states that this has happened on 50 different planets, including his home planet while he had been away, all for some unknown reason.

So they're sent back in time, and they quickly realize that there are rogue AI on the internet, and they were likely responsible for the destruction of the planet.  The AI have managed to figure out ways to build human-looking bodies for themselves called synthetics.  The crew eventually realize that these synthetics may have destroyed the Earth through infiltrating NASA and using the satellite placed in orbit by the Odyssey crew, which contained some sort of high energy physics experiment.

Furthermore, there's a secret human organization at NASA that may be in cahoots with the AI, referred to as the Cadre.   The Cadre was created shortly after NASA brought back a very specific moon rock in one of the Apollo missions.  In the last episode, it's revealed that the moon rock actually originated from Mars (and landed on the moon), and it's not natural.  In fact, it contains a Martian AI.  Taggert realizes that the same events that happened on Earth, happened on Mars eons ago.   The big reveal is that the Cadre is actually trying to destroy all AI and synthetics on the planet, and the "Bright Sky" satellite was created by them to do that.   The destruction of the Earth was either an unintentional consequence, or was a mutually assured destruction response from the A.I.  The show ends on a cliff hanger, so most of the questions from the show are left unanswered.

The similiarities

Now, there's quite a few similarities between this show and the ME3 ending.   First off, the alien AI referred to as the seeker shares a couple similarities with the Star-child.  First off, he's not very trustworthy and one of the protagonists of the show thinks that he has ulterior motives for sending them back.  Second, in physical appearance, while not a little boy, he's portrayed as an old man, and when you see his true form, he's definitely reminscent of the star-kids ghostly kind of appearance.   Here's the opening for the show, forward it to 25-27 seconds to see the seeker.

Then there's "Bright sky" and its similarities to the crucible.  A device created to wipe out synthetics/AI, and has the inadvertent affect of wiping out the entire planet!  Sound familiar?  It's not directly stated in the show that it was Bright sky that wiped out the planet though.

The concept of synthesis is discussed on the show quite often, while not directly by name.  In one episode, Commander Taggert is bitten by a synthetic, and starts transforming into one.   He manages to undo the transformation before it completes, and is returned to his normal form, albeit with nanites in his blood stream.  In another episode, a synthetic skin takes over human bodies and manages to control them.

And then there's the cyclical organics create AI, AI destroys organics theme.   The seeker states that he has found 50 other worlds destroyed, all for unknown reasons.  You can basically infer all these advanced civilizations were destroyed by AI.  This is confirmed by the Mars rock, that turns out to be some sort of artificial martian computer that contains an AI in it.

There are a few differences though.  In the show, the cycle could actually be organics create AI, AI destroys organics and themselves.  There's also no real "Normandy", as the Odyssey isn't seen outside of the first episode. The majority of the show takes place on Earth as well.

Any Thoughts?
