Okay... I did the stupidity of going to Redcliffe with Sten and Morrigan, and to win brownie points with these too asocial ilks, I refused to helps the townsfolk against the walking dead. Now what? Go back to camp and play bridge? We grab some popcorn, sit on the hill and watch the slaughter? I'm kinda stumped... I dunno where to go with the quest! Posted Image

I think if you leave and come back, everyone is dead, but I'm not sure. I found it easier to just dump Morrigan in camp for that quest. And every other quest. She's too... contrary. Probably harder to do if you aren't playing a mage, though.

Reload, leave Sten and Morrigan at camp, or just suck up the approval hits (it doesn't matter in the long run - I ended up with 100 on both of them, even taking those early hits). If you're wanting to continue on with the playthrough, you can pick the quest line back up by returning to Redcliffe and talking to the survivors.

Just do another area then come back to Redcliffe after awhile, think that should work.

Thanks LazyWulfran1. I tried going back to camp and coming back and the poor townfolks are still waiting to get their whoopin'. I think I might just go back to camp and come back with Alistair and Leliana... They're a bit more "empathic" to human suffering. The other two can go and choke on their brownie points.

Okee... Thanks everyone. Will do just that. As for Sten and Morrigan... *shakes head*... You just can't take these two out in public! LMAO!

You left Morrigan in camp? Morrigan disapproves, -20.

Seriously, the negative approval ratings from some of the party members are kind of stupid. The Redcliffe subplot is one of the most onerous ones, because ostensibly you are trying to get the aid of the Arl to fight the darkspawn and the only way Bann Teagan will let you into the keep is if they manage to drive off the zombies.

Some of the other nit fits your companions throw I can sort of see, but this one has always seemed really dumb/lame.

Yeah, but then I gave her a couple shiny things and this cake my dog found, and she forgave me.

Totally. Gifts FTW. Especially the Companion Side-Quest gifts. Zev is actually the easiest to win over with these due to the fact he has more "specialized" gifts than everyone. The gloves, the boots, so on and so forth.

To get the incident to fire up, you need to leave redcliffe and go somewhere fairly far away... or in one instance I left, went to party camp, came back, left again and I think then went to lake calenhad and on the way it cut to the night time cutscene of the undead invasion.

On the initial instance when I did it, I went for uber brownie points with Sten and Morrigan by stating I wouldn't help out, they both approved.

The one inconsistency I have with the whole Redcliffe thing is that, if you go down the 'Circle Tower' route of saving Connor, it seems a bit silly that in between you going there and coming back Connor's demon hasn't caused more trouble, especially if you actually had to clear the tower in the process.

It's a huge risk, and logically, you should expect to be overwhelmed and fall.  Now, a noble last stand is one thing when it means something, gains something...  But this would do neither: if you fail, noone will ever know, and nothing has been gained - and the Blight shall continue undeterred until it engulfs the entire country and spreads.

Quite a lot to risk to MAYBE get some ambiguous sort of help from an Arl.  Really, they're being practical.  In metagame, we know this quest is vitally important - but your character has not learned this, and neither have they.

In Redcliffe you can actually get quite a bit of approval from Sten. You can convince him that it is needed that you help the village, he will be happy if you give 1 sovereign for the sword to the girl whose little brother you find and he appreciates it every time you bully someone into fighting (the dwarf, the elf and the tavern owner). The only part where you lose standing with the Sten is when you promise the smith to look for his daughter. And that is because he does not believe your promise is sincere.

All of your friends can be bought. Eventually you get so many gifts for Morrigan that it makes up the difference.

Sten can be Persuaded to actually get an influence gain from helping. He'll also like it if you force Lloyd to fight.

I thought it was interesting that Sten's approval went up even when he wasn't with me for the dialog where I told them to bugger off. Bug?

I often find it easier to leave her in camp when accepting quests like that, then if you want her in party, just reorder or go back to camp and she's (suprisingly) got nothing to say

Why are people so worried about losing influence with Morrigan?

She is BY FAR the easiest character to build influence with. Piking the right dialogue options nets you +8 or so each time. She also has the most gifts, including the most plot gifts. I did every goody quest in the game, AND picked Leliana over her and I still got her to 100 very easily.

This

I always do this...easier then trying to ply her with gifts ,because most goody two shoes players are alway picking the
"good" answer ...which always pisses her off.
I don't want a relationship with her...I just want her to kick butt. Since she is the only offensive mage in the whole game...!!!
I've trained Wynn to be more offensive but she is miles behind Morrigan.
I need Morrigan...
So I leave her at camp when doing the " good" dialogue...dialogue over...picke her up.

This esssential at the Mages Tower as siding with Wynn really upsets her....just change party at the docks....dump Morrigan..pick up quest....reorder Morrigan.

Wish there was another mage in the game...!!!!

I agree with Morrigan. You're being foolish to help those people.

All of you who allow yourselves to be annoyed by her are just small-minded. You cannot put yourself in her place to understand why she feels the way she does about things. Many times, you simply need to (Persuade) her to see things your way. I never left her out of my party in a single encounter, and still had her at 100 (Love) from just after Redcliffe to the end of the game. (I did Redcliffe, then the mage tower, then back to Redcliffe castle.)

The sad thing is the extremely limited imagination of the developers in terms of how they allow things to play out in the end.

When I saw the ending of DA:O, it was almost as frustrating as the slap-in-the-face ending to Quantum Leap:

(Fade to black)

"Dr. Sam Beckett never returned home."

BS, I say. I'm going to fix it with the new toolset.

There are enough gifts throughout the game that you can offset whatever hit you take from either character here. Also, completing both of their personal quests later on nets you a huge amount of approval.
