So I hardened Alistair, but I want him to stick around as a Grey Warden, and make Anora queen. I've tried playing through the Landsmeet three times, though, and Alistair automatically takes the throne at the end, even though I told Anora and Alistair that I was supporting Anora. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
The conversational choices I pick are that the Blight is the enemy, Howe's torture, and the Elven slavery.
Hardened Alistair, Anora queen?

If you let hardened Alistair fight Loghain, he will take the throne.

Quick question since this is sort of related (forgive if this is a hijack). Can an "unhardened" Alistair fight (and kill, of course) Loghain, and still stay with the Wardens? In other words, Loghain dies, Anora is supported for the Crown, and Alistair remains an active Grey Warden......this possible?

As long as Alistair is not the one who actually fights Loghain, yes. Anora will not marry her father's killer.
