a veteran chevalier that serves as sort of a mentor, only this one doesn't die like most bioware mentor characters.

I really want a lady Kossith companion. Maybe Tal Vashoth, since Tallis has already shown some insight into the Ben-Hassrath side of things, and as far as I know the Ben-Hassrath is the only loophole for the "women fighting" actually within the bounds of the Qun - that we know of, anyway. Female Kossith are conspicious in their absense - there's a whole richness of experience there that we have no knowledge of at all, and I'd love to be able to fight and learn alongside one.

Besides which, a Tal Vashoth would just be generally awesome, a nice counterpoint to our experience working alongside Sten in DA:O. I was a bit disappointed when the option came up to ask Meraas to work for Hawke and he refused (even though his reasoning was totally sound).

Also, and this is hugely unlikely since the possibility of him getting Tranqu'ed/possessed would create a need for some serious narrative fancy footwork, but....Feynriel. He has some really interesting abilities that we've never seen anywhere else, he's got an interesting background, and in the "sucess" storyline he ends up spending time in Tevinter, which is a place I'd really like to hear more about. Most of the time the only insight we get on Tevinter is from former slaves.

I'd also argue for Cole (ULTIMATE ROGUE), since I think he'd be really interesting and unusual as a companion, particularly as a counterpoint to a few of our previous companions (trying to be vague because of spoilers) but I'm aware he has a set of personal traits that would make it really, super hard to actually make him a functional member of a party. As it is, I'm just sort of hoping we'll run into him at some point, possibly as the focal point of a sidequest.

Like many others, I'm sort of expecting Cullen and Cassandra to be in the party at this point, and if they are, they would be completely welcomed. If not, I'll be happy to meet whatever new companions are coming our way.

how about a kossith mage born out of the Qun (maybe tal'vashoth parents that got killed by qunari but hid the baby in time) raised by the chantry (and circle) to serve as a spy inside the qunari.:innocent:

her equipment could reflect her pretending to be a qunari warrior, with her staves looking like spears and armor that looks like an arvaraad or other type of qunari warrior.

Cole would be interesting, especially if he went all invisible on you when you needed him in a cutscene.

Cullen because he's vital to the mage/templar war and I doubt he sees it as black and white and would offer invaluable insight.

Carver was my favourite companion in DA2. So it would have to be Carver or Bethany for this companion slot cozza Hawke's class. And it would have to be just an additional companion you can pick up along the way, seen as they can both be dead.

I would like a female dwarf because we didn't see any in DA2 and it could fill the feisty companion slot.

I'd like a female elf too, maybe a hedge-mage who's a bit mad like the Hermit in the Brecillian Forest.

Aaaaand... a Chasind or barbarian. To learn more about their cultures and tribes. Could possibly tell us more about Flemeth.

For rogues I would like

A male dwarf surface ranger. Cool like Aragon - but a dwarf.

A female human thief.

Warriors

A 2-handed human male barbarian.

An old noble human male with sword and shield.

Mages

I don't know. I'm out of ideas at the moment.

I want a pet rat!Don't ask me why ,IRL , i don't have one nor want to...but i always imagine my character with a rat.

As for companion , I don't really want any old companion back.I had a certain relationship with them with my warden and Hawke. So the idea to deal with them with another PC ( who probably won't be different from my precious heros on morality ground) doesn't appeal much to me.

I said it in a different post but i'd like to have a coward. As far as i can remember all our companion were good fighters who didn't blink an eye at all the gore around.I found it a little wierd to have found capable and hardened companions all the time.

I'd like to have a city elf , because we had a lot of dalish already. And i'd like for city elves to have something going on.In da2 , some join the qunari but it was really a small part of the story.
Since everybody seems to be on rebel mode (after Asunder) I think the elf should be part of it.

A Kossith female , Qunari or tal vashoth: we have little idea of what life is like for Female qunari and non fighter people so I'd like that.

Female dwarves:I like them in DA0 , they were cute (something rare in fantasy where female dwarves usually are mocked) maybe a LI , because the always elves and human romance is a bit "easy".

Maybe something completly foreign like the fex , (Brushyourteeth mentions them in one of his/her post),
Though i'm a little scared of what a new race might look like (please nothing goofy like lizard tigerpeople etc...)we know nothing about them and discovering something new via companion is always nice (like sten and shale for example).

Maybe a grey warden , which i like to be "grey" , I think the grey warden are any means to an end type , and people don't question their motives enough , because we play a warden we tend to like them.

Probably a templar , who has good reason to be one (and not my familly has been killed by a mage /boring),the lyrium junkie problem could be shown.Templars sacrifice a lot ,it need to be shown.

And a mage who's not crazy , not an abomination , and don't think cutting his wrist and dancing with demon is Ok.I don't mind having another blood mage as long as it shows that blood magic doesn't have to be evil and doesn't lead to death and destruction if you use it a certain way.It doesn't have to be easy to not succomb to foolishness , but a possible path.

If we're looking at a new character i'd like a Chasind Warrior. We don't know much about the Chasind and i'd like to see more of them, see more of their culture.

If we're talking "returning" characters. Sebastian Vael.

Sebastian's story wasn't finished in Dragon Age II, by a long shot. He also wasn't given the time, or attention, to grow as much as the other companions of Dragon Age II, which has left him with an awful lot of potential to become an *amazing* character in Future Dragon Age Title - Return of the Dragon Age.

I like passionate characters and Sebastian, in my eyes, is extremely passionate about a great number of things. He's loyal. His sense of Justice actually rivals Anders'/Justice's, and i'm a big fan of Justice.

The one thing that bugged me about Sebastian in Dragon Age II, however, is how he never questioned his faith. All the bad stuff that continually happened, he never questioned the Maker or the Chantry.

I'd like to see him return, as a future companion, the charming, dashing rogue that he talks about being in his past, but with a layer of bitterness and hatred for the Maker.

Before the fan girls attack: I don't want to see Sebastian lose his faith, but i do think, after all the bullcrap that's happened to him in Dragon Age II, and before Dragon Age II, that he would be hating on the Maker a fair bit.

So yes, i'd like to see Sebastian back with his dashing, charming, roguish personality and good looks. But with a level of anger, bitterness and hatred towards the Maker and the Chantry.

That turned into a Sebastian rant. Sorry.

TL:DR : If i have to see a previous companion return (which i undoubtedly will) i'd like it to be Sebastian Vael with his dashing, roguish good looks and personality. With a dark layer of bitterness and anger.

I'd also like to see a Chasind Warrior.

Cole(rogue)
Rhys(mage)
Evengeline(warrior)
A female Elven mage(I'm not tired of them yet)
A male Dwarf warrior
A male Elven warrior
A female Kossith rogue

I like variety, and I like seeing characters from the Bioware books make it into the games. Cole is one of the most unique characters they could add and who wouldn't want him in the game after that last page in Asunder? And a Templar with the spirit that inhabited Wynne could have some awesome powers. Not to mention how important a figure she could become, what with being a Templar who defected to help the mages rebel and being in love with the potential new Anders(though Rhys is obviously much less crazy and much less whiny).

I put some thought into these characters and how they could work in-game.

Cole- Now that Cole has come to a realization about what he is, he could be visible to all. That way he can't just murder every enemy without them knowing what's happening. But he should be able to go invisible as an ability.
Rhys- He's a powerful mage. He doesn't need any special abilities or anything.
Evangeline- She's a skilled warrior and a Templar. And an abomination. She could have a skill tree revolving around the spirit inhabiting her. It's a healing spirit so maybe Evangeline could have some healing abilities? An ability that keeps her health regenerating in battle would be awesome and make her tanky.
The female Elf mage- I'm thinking a city Elf from the White Spire who ventured out on her own instead of joining up with Rhys after the rebellion began. She's independent and doesn't care about the rebellion now that she's free. She should be a Force Mage.
The male Dwarf warrior- He's a mercenary, purely motivated by profit and self-interest. He's on your side so long as you're making it worth his while(looting, finding ancient artifacts, etc). He's cruel and contemptuous of the virtuous, but he's an extremely skilled warrior. He would use 2 axes and he just so happens to look exactly like the Dwarf in my avatar...
The male Elf warrior- He was originally a Dalish elf but was captured by slavers and bought by a wealthy spice magnate in Val Royeaux when he was still young. He was regularly given a wooden sword to "spar" with the eccentric Orlesian aristocrat. The matches were the man's excuse to beat his slave with a dull blade. When he became a young adult he pilfered a sword and murdered his master in the streets of Val Royeaux. Instead of fleeing the city and returning to the Dales he stayed and became a blight on the nobles of the city, burning down their homes, kidnapping and ransoming their children, and murdering those that mistreated their slaves. He would be a Duelist, using a longsword and no shield.
The female Kossith rogue- She is the orphan of a Tal-Vashoth and was raised by a Tevinter Magister. He raised her to infiltrate the Qunari and feed him information about their mages and how their magic was performed. When she was found out by the Qunari she was very nearly killed but managed to escape. When she returned to the Magister she was cast out as she was no longer useful to him. She's now an operative of a shadowy group interested in ensuring the mage's victory in the rebellion... She would be an archer.

I should probably add another rogue and another mage for balance, but I have no ideas at the moment...

After what they did to Anders in DA2 i'm not so sure i really want old companions to come back.

However since the game is rumored to be set in Orlais, I'd like for Silas from Lelianas song to perhaps become a companion.
Also Carver/Bethany would be cool to have.
I'd like to meet Loghain if he's alive, but i'm not sure i would want him as a companion.

While I'm hoping for all new companions for a new chapter in the ongoing story of Dragon Age, if there were returnees for companions then tops of my list would be:

Cullen (aside from fangirl reasons) he's undergone a great deal of character development for such a minor character, and as a templar fits in with the general direction of the story.

Bevin because I'm really curious what happened to that little boy from Redcliffe who was so inspired by the Warden he becomes an adventurer.

Connor as well (the game doesn't have enough male mage companions), but I realize that's a bit more tricky considering he can die in Origins.

Teagan because...well, he's the Bannhammer...do I have to have more of a reason than that? Yes, I know it's silly to hope that he'll be a full fledged companion, but to be honest, a cameo would tickle me to no end!

I'd love to see all the former companions who are alive come back for cameos/side quests/honorable mention (like the pigeon killing spree the bartender in the Hanged Man talks about as a 'rumor') as long as they make sense, though I wouldn't want them for full fledged companions.

Gender/race/class doesn't really matter a whole lot to me, though I'd prefer if we got a nice mix of personalities and well balanced classes to take along on adventures.

I'm quite happy with new companions. However, if old faces were to reappear as companions, I'd like Nyree, Carver/Bethany/Charade, Nathaniel/Sigrun or Maraas. I liked all of them, and I'd rather not have anyone who was a full companion in DAO/2 back in the party. the Hawke family members and the Awakening Wardens had fairly minor parts, so I'd love to see them developed more. Of course, it'd be so hard to bring Carver/Bethany back, considering they could be dead, in the Wardens, or the Circle/Templars. And they could have various different appearances. So Charade would probably be more likely. Still, I'd love to have them back as companions in their own right, and not just as Hawke's family.

For new companions, I'd like to see a Templar party member, an Alienage/Circle elf, a dwarven female, a kossith (preferably female and Tal-Vashoth), and maybe a Chasind. Obviously, personality is more important, but I'm interested in getting a more in-depth and personal look into these groups, that only a companion can really give.

There's so many threads like this, but who cares they're fun!

Cassandra: She played a big part in DA2 and I kind of wan't to know more about the seekers, they seem to be like the CIA of Dragon Age lol

Cullen: He's hot, do I need another reason?

I'd personally prefer an all new set of companions; although I'm certainly not against any returning.
I most certainly want a templar if only just to watch them fight with the mages in my party.

Have you read Asunder? It gives additional insight on the Seekers, including how/why they were formed/became part of the Chantry and their current leadership. The Lord Seeker plays a large role in the book.

Rhys and Evangeline.

1) A templar and mage romance with no extreme insights on the war. One fights because he has to, the other fights because she loves him. They can both bring good insight to the whole conflict, without having some extremist trying to brainwash you.

2) Snark and Stern. Rhys is snarky, whilst Evangeline is more serious. It'd be awesome to see their relationship and party banter.

3) Companion romance. Romances in BioWare games are great. And I personally loved Aveline's sidequest. So these two should bring an interesting light to our typical BioWare companions.

Flemeth- She been part of the game since origins and she is up to something this would be the best of the best ways to find out what she is up too.

Logain- Even though i hate logain he's a decent tank and could rebuild his rep/ interesting to see his special abilities since he was a general.

Cullen- I love Templars. Meredith was my all time fav char.

Sebastian- Like to get a little more out of him and he's not bad looking

Fenris- I think fenris was a great addition to the team. I want to see his abilities get stronger. And possibly grow out his hair for dragon age 3 that would be cute.

Rogue mage- I wanna see a mage who isn't so fond of other mages. For example all mages can easily turnover to dark arts and most of them are power hungry rebels. I want him to stand for mages in the sense of everything right where he/she masters thier art with out dark magic.

Varric- Always need a dwarf when your getting jumped by the carta why not varric

Qunari Saarebas- This would also be interesting.

leliana- Obviously gonna play a big part in dragon age 3 if not ill settle with Cassandra.

Any grey warden would be great also!!!!

Hawke is a nono she/he is more of leader not a follower. Already at thier peak i rather not.

I guess I'm going to be lame and say a whole new cast.

If DA3 is about the war I can't see any of the previous cast returning for legitimate reasons, except Leliana I guess.

I've answered once, but I've since revised and added to my list. Let's say there's a maximum number of 9 possible companions ...

1) Seeker (Cassandra*)
2) Grey Warden (Stroud*)
3) Female Kossith Saarabes
4) Female Dwarven Lyrium Smuggler
5) Human or Elven Theif
6) Chasind Warrior or Mage
7) Nyree the Reaver, Dragon Age: Redemption
8) Templar (Cullen*)
9) Darkspawn, DLC character maybe?

* =Seems to be the popular choice

Well, most likely to happen is Cullen, Cassandra, and possibly Talis if we are speaking realisticly. Not my first choices, but probably inevitable.

Returning characters that have a fighting chance of making it:
1. Carver/Bethany are my first choices because I loved them and they got wasted in DA2. It would be fun to have them as romanceable for the new PC.
2. Charade would be by second choice. She was just fun.
3. Velanna. Her search for her sister would be the perfect way to move along the talking darkspawn storyline.

Returning characters that aren't likely to happen:
1. Lily from the mage Origin is my first choice because there is huge story potential there. Years at the mercy of the templars in a mage prison. There's a lot that can be done there.
2. Dagna (I think that was her name) the mage loving dwarf girl is my second choice. I would love to see her find a way to become the first dwarf mage. That would be amazing.
3. Lia. A female city elf warrior championing city elf rights.

New Characters:
1. Quanri/Kossith in any capacity.
2. A Werewolf.
3. Talking Darkspawn looking to cure the taint.
4. Intelligent, magic-slinging attack nug.
