The answer is probably right in front of me but I can't figure it out. So after I leave spellhold I tell Saemon that I would go on the ship with him. I just got back from getting the horn from the Pirate Lord's girl and went to find Saemon. I killed the pirates trying to make me a slave...blah blah blah. But then I get to Saemon and it keeps saying he is busy and I can't initiate dialogue with him.

What wrong? Did I wait to long to get the horn (about 1 Day)? Is there a mod I can get to fix it, or what?

Thanks :)

You didn't wait too long. Did you talk to him in the tavern first and then LET him leave (e.g. you didn't leave before he did). If you did, he should be on the docks at the far right side, near the ship you are going to procure. There's a bug that happens if you leave the tavern before he does. I think the solution is to spawn him via the console, but I don't have the exact details to do that....maybe some-one else does?

If that's the case maybe use shadowkeeper to see if there are any obvious variable problems. Our just-failed no-reload is at this stage, need to pick the horn up and can advise what variables I have if it helps.

The global variable is asylumplot.

Set it to 60, from what I could see this replaced the horn back on the table. Speak to Saemon to learn of the horn then let him leave first (from what happened to my game Corey described the bug perfectly). Then get the horn and go find Saemon at the docks.

Unfortunately I've ovewritten my save game so can't experiment further.

So I went into ShadowKeeper and changed the value to 60 on asylumplot. But when I go back in the game it doesn't seem anything happened. Saemon is still at the docks and the horn isn't back on the table. Do I need to do something else in ShadowKeeper that I didn't do? (I'm horrible with these types of things :P)

Thanks

Is your game patched?

A (no) start a new patched game... no you can't just patch it now and keep playing.

A (yes) cheat a new Saemon into your game then try resetting the "value" again.

Worse case scenario, you can go back to spellhold and take the underdark portal... You'll miss exploring the shark city but at lease the game will continue on.

Um, OK. There are a few more variables but if he's at the very right of the docks (correct place) but refuses to talk both SOA & TOB have patches with one item as below. I'd be fairly sure newer versions of Windows will work the same.

* Fixes the NPC "X appears busy" bug associated with Win2K and WinXP.

If you've purchased from GOG the game is pre-patched. If you have a CD/DVD version these are not pre-patched so the ideal installation is SOA, TOB then TOB patch. Or SOA and SOA patch (then optionally TOB and TOB patch) but never the SOA patch after TOB.

Patches at

edit, just seen your post ussnorway. for x appears busy are you sure the OP can't just patch & continue. Might be worth a try anyway?

Sorry but the simple answer is yes I’m pretty sure. :?

Installing the patch should stop the {x appears busy} bug from happening but does nothing to fix it... even if you do set that variable correctly using the editor of your choice you will still have a save game full of broken quest variables so for instance maybe Bodi won’t kidnap your love interest or perhaps the stronghold quests will fail to start.

Which quests are or aren’t broken will depend on what (random) order you did things throughout your campaign & you mightn’t know anything is wrong until much later in the game.

well, if you haven't patched the game, the patch will stop this bug from happening.
here is what helped me once when i played the game without the patch:
i deleted the game (but NOT the saves) , reinstalled it, installed the patch, and loaded the savegame again.
it worked after i did that. maybe it will also help you (i hope so)
