Poor Chobot is never going to live this down. To be fair to her, I would be thrilled to be a voice/character in ME3 too if I was asked to be.

It's the people who picked her and her bland voice acting, and spent the time and resources modeling her and putting her in the game, that are really at fault.

I really see zero reason for her to exist in the game. She fills a reporter role that TWO popular characters could've filled instead.

It's like throwing Kim Kardashian in a game and replacing Captain Bailey with her. If it was for "nerdbait", I didn't bite.

It's nobody's fault. Bioware can cast whoever they deem fit. It is extremely common for movie directors give casting prority to their close friends in favour of more deserving candidates.

Yeah, and it's THEIR FAULT if the actor/actress they picked sucks. Francis Ford Coppola is a good director, but his decision to cast Sophia Coppola in Godfather III nearly RUINED the movie for many people. That is 100% his fault. A movie can sink or swim based on its cast alone, so choosing the right person for the job is essential to a film's success.

So, yes, this IS Bioware's fault. They made the casting decision. They approved the casting decision. And that was the wrong call to make. They put someone nobody wanted in a game full of great vocal performances and she utterly failed to match that level of performance. She was Rob Scheider in a film consisting of Morgan Freeman, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Merryl Streep. She was not the right person for the job or the role, but it was the people who decided she was that were at fault.

Don't see how her minuscule role could really have affected how you feel about the game, hell you can choose not to have her all together

You don't see the development resources spent on her that could've been used on something more useful?

It's effectively this. It personally grates me significantly that they spent (presumably) a fair amount of time and effort on modelling her appearance into ME3. Tali on the other hand - a major character of all three games - gets a photoshopped google image.

'Course, it doesn't help that Allers role in the game is utterly inconsequential.

I didn't have Tali as LI, but I still understand:
a) Amount of people massively dissatisfied with lack of better Tali's model/interaction - massive
B) Amount of people pleased to same degree with Allers included - miniscule or even none
This does not make it remotely equal, you clearly see that choice b is non-sensical unless you have some other incentive.

You have a point but Chobot's role is so minor that any percieved damage to the game is miniscule. Furthermore, she reports for IGN, it's not like they picked a developer's waitressing cousin off the streets. I compare it to Joss Whedon picking Cobie Smulders for the role of Maria Hill. I feel that she was miscast but she hardly ruined the film (partly due to her very minor role). You got to give the devs and directors some leeway in terms of casting choices. Not every role has to be rigorously auditioned for.

Um actually it is unethical, and in your example of Hollywood there are definate limits.  Look up the Payola Laws.  Had Jessica Chobot been a Radio or TV personality, what she did would have been illegal.  Thus it is perfectly fair to blame both Bioware and EA (and IGN) for allowing this.

Yeah she isn't a great voice actress, it's an odd choice by Bioware.

Actually, from what I've heard they were going to cast Winona Ryder, but she backed out at the last minute. Sophia was literally the only person they could get.

I quite like the idea of famous people from within the gaming community getting roles in games as aposed to celebrities that have nothing to do with gaming, but a role this large and replacing an established character is a bad choice. Equally employing a prominent figure from an establishment who will be reviewing your game is an odd choice, I'm not saying that did effect the review but they must have known that is how it would appear, it's the obvious conclusion.

If it had been a bit part then fair enough but surely somebody impartial or well known outside of the media would have been a better choice, like Simon and Lewis from the yogscast or someone along those lines.

I know not of this Chobot character. She wasn't on my Normandy during my playthrough, nor would she be if I ever felt the desire to do a second playthrough in the future (doubtful that I will).

Her horrible, artifical sounding voice acting along with her Jersey Shore looking character model is just awful.

Fan service & favor to IGN. And to those who argue, IGN is not a benefitiary: Jessica Chobot is a major moderator and host and IGN's face, so even if they do not admit it, IGN profits it from this.

The problem was that she was miscast. If she'd been a newsreader like Emily Wong back in ME2 that would be similar to the role she has on IGN and her lack of acting experience would be less glaring. Unfortunately in a game with such a high standard of voice acting she does sound like she cannot speak any English and she is speaking her lines phonetically. To be fair if she'd been in Skyrim she'd have come across like Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady. Khalisah al Jhilani should have been the embedded reporter, think of the comic potential.

What's wrong with Allers a cheap and easy fix can't change?

All she needs are Elcor subtitles to convey the emotion we're supposed to be hearing, and change her in game race from female human to female Elcor (they don't even have to change the character model) problem solved.

Oh that was a righteous burn.  Brava!

I thought it sounded appropriate ;)

*ksssssssssssssssss!*

Oooo, sick burn!

Had no idea she was a real person until coming here and even then I thought Chobot was a mean way of calling her character a robot, which kind of fit in. Either way, go blue or go home, so whatevs. Dunny why they'd bother with a ****ty reporter (yes, the best possible way to deliver hard hitting war updates) when they've got the sweetest piece of human meat in existence around, Jack.

Now that I think about it, the reporter had way more lines and scenes than Jack. Krosis....
