Why is the hell is Jessica Chobot in ME3?

If the game and especially the ending would have been any good, no-one would care about Chobot, she's such a non-character. But since the fans are in rage-mode (myself included) every little negative is a valid target.

I like how you didn't try to answer the questions in the original post and instead, just explained why you don't know why Chobot is hated.MetioricTest wrote...
Maybe it's because I don't go on IGN but I never understood why she is SO hated.
yeah her voice acting sucks but she's such a minor character who if you like you can refuse to let onto your ship. People act like it's the 2nd worst thing in the game.
You got the wrong impression I think, I don't hate her I just think it gives the wrong impression when you give a part in your videogame to a reporter from a game review company.
Sorry I assumed the question was rhetorical since the answer is pretty obvious. "They thought fans would get a kick out of Jessica Chobot being in the game as a reporter."
And many do.

To be honest, at first I didn't give a **** if she's in the game or not, I had no idea who she was. Later however, I think she is kind of distracting since she's actually a quasi-famous IGN reporter. It detracts from the immersion. Emily Wong would have been a much better choice.

But you don't find Martin Sheen walking around as a guy who looks like Martin Sheen a distraction from immersion?
This is the bit that confuses me.

Are you serious about that? I remember about a thread a few weeks ago, some guy asked about which characters players liked/disliked the most and Allers turned out to be one of the most hated characters of the whole series, only to be topped by the Starchild itself...

Doesn't look that much like Martin Sheen. It's a pretty vague resemblance.

For me, it's a conflict of interest-sort-of-thing. Sheen is an actor, not a game reviewer, so he's fine. Chobot is an employee of IGN, a site that reviews video games. Something about that just seems... shady...

You gotta keep in mind things like that are only including the internet-heavy fans. There's several million other ones out there who don't care as much and love little things like that. I know someone who only played ME2 because Worf was in it.

Who besides an internet-heavy fan - to quote your words - would even know who Allers/Chobot is in the first place? If you don't know who her real-life counterpart is, you most certainly will just perceive her as an ugly character model with bad VA...

heh. I just finished a playthrough after freezing this game for about 7 weeks. I would kill for a patch that had that as a dialogue option.

Like Javid is avatar of vengeance of his cycle, Jessica Chobot is the avatar of success of her cycle.
She's the example of success and become someone from zero.
Her success proves one theory and it's not IT:
Licking your boos' *** will give you success in your life, in her case, she licked a PSP and there she is.
This is the secret message of all Mass Effect franchise:
Want to achieve something ? -Lick everyone !
And the now-traditional Chobot thread descent into dumb-ass sleaze. Congratulations.Apfelweinbrauer wrote...
Actually she seems to be quite on the lucky side.
Licking the PSP maybe made her end up with IGN, instead of BraZZers...

This.
I don't mind Chobot being in it, not at all - in fact I think she deserves it given how much she personally loves the game. I do mind, however, getting a very underwhelming product.

I'm not a internet heavy fan and I first seen her on AOTS and Proving Ground. I never even knew she was apart of ign until people started making a big stink about it. Her voice acting was bad but my only complaint about her is that the real Jessica Chobot isn't built like that.Apfelweinbrauer wrote...

So if you don't hang around mass effect forums and actively engage in Mass effect polls you can't use the Internet?
Interesting logic.
I've never posted here until a few months ago and I was never asked in any of these polls or things. I still used the Internet alot. So does everyone.
This is the core fanbase. A lot of people here just hate IGN from the get go even before Chobot was in this game.
I think sometimes hanging around forums can warp people a bit.

It could have been worse. Anyone who plays EA sports titles knows how willing they are to jam in real life advertising in the middle of games. At least ME3 didn't have product placement everywhere.
"This war asset brought to you by...x...." It's only a matter of time.
