Use a pistol, double pull - double throw, evolve all to increase detonation damage. Always, reduce cooldowns. 90% of the game, nothing can get near you at this point. Then you need warp & throw and stasis & throw to get rid of the armor and barriers respectively. Nothing can get close.
The best way to utilise Adept in SP?

There's no best way really, you can stick with the normal tradition with just pistols or just light weapons in general or like me I go with heavier weapons so I can kill stuff with my guns just as much I use my powers, tbh the cooldowns on your powers aren't so terrible even at 50% or 100% power recharge as long as you have stuff like rosenkov materials and the weight capacity from passives and the combo mastery at rank 6 to balance it out and if you want you can take advantage of the ULM mods.
I chose reave as my bonus power so I can reave then throw, or reave for stagger then kill them with my gun and if they're still alive then detonate with throw, or reave then cluster on groups of enemies or bosses.Reave then cluster grenades deal a fair bit of damage to armour of you can get placed well around the boss with only its armour left and its barriers and shields stripped.
Thought I extend this a little bit, an example of how to use reave and clusters effectively, I know how everyone doesn't like the geth dreadnaught and gets quite annoying when you get up to the part this huge shockwave the first time comes by and you have to take cover while fightning the geth, as soon as they spawn prime it with reave from either yourself or kaiden, then throw a cluster grenade at their feet it should kill most of them and leaving a few rocket troopers and geth hunters to kill.
This also works well after you encounter the huge shockwave the second time around and see a couple of rocket troopers up at the top sniping, once you get rid of those rocket troopers after climbing up and descending down the ladder to the next spawn of geth, a few troopers and hunters should spawn, prime with reave and detonate with clusters. Thats pretty much it, the adept was probably the one that I had the easiest time with the dreadnaught without having to use a single medi gel and not die once the entire time hehe

Are we really giving advice on a year-old thread?

Maybe I will play an Adept with a Javelin in SP.

Since Adepts typically fight in mid-range encounters, I recommend using a Harrier (if you have that weapon pack) with an AR Ultralight materials mod.
I s*** you not, that is the most inconcievably OP loadout that one will ever use.
EDIT: And I just realized that this thread was necro'ed.
Seriously though, Adept + Harrier = Gamebreaker.

I imagine it can work though the ammo may cause a bit of an issue but its possible if you can manage the ammo on the javelin and make some BEs or even FEs to kill some of the stuff for you to conserve ammo and find spare ammo somewhere.
