So, in summation, OP comes out as a douche, invites others to kick him.

I give him the benefit of a doubt. Maybe he doesn't understand just what "elitism" is and why it's bad in 100% of situations.

Possibly, though his message implied, at least to me, that he knows what he's saying and really doesn't care about other people.

I don't think so. I think he just chose poor wording.

Think of it this way. You're picking teams for a backyard football game. There's a clearly bad player who doesn't know what he's doing amidst others who are better suited to play. He's going to get picked last because he's bad. The guys not picking him yet don't need to be asses about it, and he doesn't need to whine, either. That's just the way team picking works.

So when I want to play a Gold run, and do so successfully, then no, I don't want to pick the teammate with a low N7 and an Avenger VI equipped. I don't want to pick the Vanguard with a sniper. I don't want to pick the lvl.5 character. I want to pick someone who seems ready to play, and ready to win. That's not elitism; those are standards.

Still, no reason not to be polite about the whole thing.

I consider myself an elitist, but a lot depends on my circumstance. If I'm messing around, I'll play with whoever in a public gold match. If I'm carrying a few people, I won't use consumables until after round 6 to ensure I can replace whatever I use and I rarely take equipment. The way I see it, I lose nothing except time in that circumstance.

If I'm trying to make some cash or finish an event objective, I will relentlessly kick anyone who doesn't meet my standard. It's harsh, but it's reflective of a point made a few times already: I want to ensure the highest possible chance of victory, so I will selectively pick my team. For the most part, I play with at least one friend which allows us to mostly monopolize kicking. I consider N7 level, character level and power construction, weapons and equipment and whether or not they have a mic. More often than not, if someone can explain their weapons/equipment/class to me briefly in the lobby, they're in. I just want an indication that they know what they're doing and won't be a burden.

So, I guess I'm a polite elitist. Calm my fears with a little communication and there's a place for everyone with a decent character (level 15+ is usually my limit though, I like people to have some survivability with points in fitness and passive skill) and weapons. Getting nothing except silence in the lobby just suggests that you're not gunna be a good team mate, because communication (in my opinion) is essential for good teamwork. I'm going to shout you a warning about that banshee sneaking up behind us, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the same.

It goes both ways. I have expectations of others, and they have expectations from me. Good teamwork is a balance between our desires of each other, and I believe good teamwork starts in the lobby. Communicate about your characters and weapons so we can have a better team. I'll happily be called an elitist if that's what having a standard is, but I'm always going to kick that N7 130 with the Phalanx III and no equipment if he doesn't answer my mic call asking what his plan is.

So then if they don't have the experience, and you want them to stay out, then it begs the question: how do players get the experience to play on Gold if people like you won't let them?

If ALL of the other experienced players suddenly vanished, what then? You never gave the inexperienced players a chance to get the experience they need to play gold, so what do you do then?

Common Sense seems to be dead in this generation.

*Raises the question. Begs the question means to answer a question with a circular answer.
And they get the experience from bronze and silver. That's what they are there for. Why is that so hard for people to understand?
Common sense does indeed seem to be dead in this generation. You got that right, atleast.

I have to agree with kinglewy here. You need to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run. Trying to run before you're ready will result in you falling flat on your face.

Skill is acquired over time, and in this game specifically, over credits. Get better weapons and equipment, and you will do better. Jumping into Gold ill-prepared will end poorly. Generally you should only be trying Gold runs when you can complete Silver with a fair amount of ease. Seems logical, no?

Right, but gold is harder than silver, in case you forgot. Which it seems you have. Just because something works in silver, doesn't mean it will work in Gold. You still need to get experience in gold to get better at it. Which you can't do if no one will let you.

There are many fine upstanding people on here that will be more than willing to waste their time training up a poor player in private matches.

This is where noobs should be practicing. Not in a random gold lobby where people actually know how to play and dont want to be holding the hand of a level 5 vanguard with a widow.

If i wanted to train people up i would have become a teacher. Learn to play the game on your own time and get the hell out of my lobby.

I think you'll find I certainly haven't forgot and this is exactly why people need to stick to silver until they have better weapon load outs and solid experience.
Of course you're going to have to adjust to gold, but that doesn't mean they should jump straight to gold from the get go.
You can still learn a lot from silver, and the problem with the majority of people who join gold games is that they still haven't spent any way near enough time there first.
I didn't start gold games until I had at least a widow 7. If say an infiltrator tries to join with a Tempest IV or GPR III, I think it's safe to say he still has to gain from bronze, let alone silver.
I've personally played a few games on gold with new players, because I got to know them on mic, they were polite, and willing to learn. that doesn't mean I'm willing to do the same in nearly every single gold match I join.

And that's the kind of attitude that leads people to hate elitests. There is this thing called being polite: you should try it. If you tell someone to "get the hell out" it shouldn't come as a surprise when they call you a dick.

You're failing to see his point. You have to be ready for Gold, or you're going to fail, and you're going to take the rest of the team down with you. I won't ever get to prove myself in the NBA if no one ever signs me, but nobody's going to sign me until I prove how good I am at the lower levels. Understand?

Just because somebody has the will to try Gold doesn't mean he's ready. A clearly low weapon set, character level or N7 rank will give that away. People who are better equipped are by no means required to play with that person, just as nothing is stopping that person from playing more silver matches, gaining more experience/equipment and trying gold later when he's more ready.

Actually, it's attitudes like yours that are the reason for these so-called "elitists" getting annoyed with players like you who seem to think they have a god given right to get carried in a higher difficulty setting when they've made no effort to deserve to be there.
Even with a decent weapon load out, I won't even sign up to a gold game with a class I haven't played that often with out getting a feel for it in bronze and silver first. Even at an acceptable character level. Because I don't have the nerve to expect other players to make up for my mistakes during a learning curve.

I think the main problem is people taking a video game way too damn seriously.
I think anyone can do any match on gold.. the reason GWG is the go to for nubs on gold is because everyone KNOWS THE PLAN.
there needs to be a standard "Plan" for each map / enemy combo.

in fact off to create that as a thread

No, while it is easy, it is still all to possible to fail if you have a group that are not ready.
And the last thing anyone wants is to wipe on a map like that due to players assuming it's guarantueed free credits.

Please dont make a "plan" for each map.

FBWGG is bad enough. We dont want the other maps ruined with noob tactics.

Gaming is srs bsns. :P
If I spend 30-40 minutes of my time that I can not get back in a mission, I want something to show for it.
Everyone says "play for fun" well mine is winning, not carrying people through gold or getting killed on Wave 9 because some idiot didn't watch the other door for banshee's and brute's.

I'm not an elitist, I just have common sense, I couldn't play gold in the beginning so I never went in there until I understood what I was doing and what my class (originally infiltrator) was meant to do.

To many people think they can "learn on the go" and end up getting the team slaughtered- and that is the whole point, this is a TEAM game, not a solo run. so you CANT do what you want and play whatever build you want.

Least not on gold.

And before someone argues "well they bought it they can do what they like" yea they can, in their own game (host).

It is the same for sports, yes? You do what is good for the team rather then yourself.

EDIT: Even worse is the scrubs who only hover over to gold (or turn on ME3 MP) for the event and ruin it for everyone, how about practising throughout the week so you do not get slaughtered during the event.

I don't know why I am bothering to waste my breath. Arguing with an elitist is like arguing with a brick wall. I see your points: play on bronze and silver and work your way up to gold. But you STILL need to experience the higher difficulty to get better at it. You can't get better at something if you don't try it. I was under the assumption that that was obvious. Apparently not.

And I do pretty well on gold btw. I don't need to be carried. Also, everyone has bad days. Nobody is perfect. Well, apparently the elitists are.

That's the completely wrong attitude to take. Just because they're being asses doesn't mean you should resort to being one as well with the "apparently the elitists are" comment.

Yes, you need experience in Gold to get better at Gold. That's obvious. But only when you're ready with good weapons, a high level character and an N7 rank that implies you've been around the block. If you lack these, the people you're trying to play with have every right in the world to assume you aren't ready and kick you. That's just how it works. Once you look prepared, there's no reason for them to kick you; it's not like they'll demand your Gold credentials before allowing you to play.

You're looking at it at too much of an extreme, just as they are. Just chill.
