That was a small Reaper Anti Aircraft Gun by the way. Not a Soverign class Reaper.

It's a Destroyer with a big gun portruding from its ass. The giant AA gun doesn't make it any less of a Destroyer.

On topic--

Assault Rifle: Mattock
Sniper Rifle: Javelin
Shotgun: Geth Plasma
SMG: Toss-up between Locust and Tempest
Pistol: Paladin

Many modern AAA made on tank's chassis. That doesn't make them as strong as tanks.
But honestly - I really don't know why's there is AAA Reaper at all, since according to rest of the game, Destroyers can handle even agile fighters on their own, not to mention flying bricks Kodiaks.
Not sure what's that - art, plot hole or speculation.

Back to topic. "Favorite" in what respect - ones I used most or ones I like?

Pistol:
Phalanx.

Shotgun:
Crusader, GPS.
Can't help, but really like Eviscerator.

SMG:
Locust/Tempest (distance-wise).

Assault Rifle:
Mattock and Falcon (not AR, really). Ricocheting grenades into hard-to-reach areas could be a life-saver.

Sniper Rifle:
Valiant.

Fun Choice Award:
Indra.

My fave guns:

Pistol: M-6 Carnifex
SMG: N7 Hurricane
Shotgun: M-27 Scimitar
Assault Rifle: Particle Rifle
Sniper Rifle: Black Widow

I think this selection just works for me. I don't like weapons that depend totally on nailing one shot and one shot only like the Claymore etc but at the same time, I don't weapons that need to spend ten minutes shooting to kill one enemy.

I would guess it had something to do with the Kodiak being hard to detect....  apparently they sport a similar stealth system to the Normandy. Perhaps the Reapers decided they'd need a dedicated AA solution?

Only if without ammo powers, mods and bonuses, IIRC.

Whole fleet of "hard to detect" Kodiaks which suddenly appear in about 6 months? I can believe is several "Test case" Kodiaks, but whole damn fleet? Doesn't fits into number of lossess - too much for stealthy and whole idea of "stealth" shuttles - in such numbers it will be hard to conceal them. Either way Reapers can detect them, thus negating stealth and making expensive stealth shuttles if not obsolete, then excessive or useless. Same should go for Normandy, if they were able to detect stealth, isn't it?

Dedicated AA solution looks strange, IMHO - ordinary Reapers can fire with deadly accuracy, decent RoF and apparently universally, so I see no reason for dedicated AA. Unless they are very, very, very much cheaper and faster to produce, which I doubt.

IIRC the stealth aspects of the Kodiak are integral to the design, it was designed from the ground up as stealth transport. The 47A received a further upgrade in the form of a IES stealth system on top of the original's sensor masking etc.

Same should go for Normandy, if they were able to detect stealth, isn't it?

If they could detect Stealth then the Reapers would be on your tail the second you enter a conquered system on the galaxy map.

I think the basic issue is that the Reapers are, by their nature, an offensive force. They aren't used to holding and defending territory - your basic Reaper destroyer can pluck any spacecraft out of the sky but doesn't appear to be able to deal with multiple small targets at once and seems much more effective on the offense (compare the fall of Earth in Vancouver with destroyers and dreanoughts on the offensive with the performance of the Destroyer in Priority: Tuchanka, who was outdone by a squad of fighters, a commando team and a wild animal)

A dedicated AA platform would likely be judged a worthwhile development by the Reapers as, frankly, they've never really had to handle a spaceborne enemy on the attack before and clearly aren't used to it.

That said, I'm totally speculating here :P

Leaving Earth "teh dramah" show us Kodiak isn't that stealthy. Not sure if it's A, or older model. Regardless, Hammer landing wasn't that much succesful either.

Since I don't know how exactly space blah-blah stealth work, I really interested in one little fact: why opening of Normandy's entry ramp is not braking stealth? It's like removing ghillie suit hood and "smile and wave" from my point of view. Yet wee see through open ramp, how Reaper somehow detects two shuttles back on Earth and deals with them, yet leaves hovering Normandy without attention.

But remember that back on Earth same Destroyer had no problems dealing with a lot of ground forces, minus fighters and wild animal, of course. And if not deus ex machina little brother (thanix missiles, which he somehow spared, while lasing everything around, including harmless objects), that Destroyerd would destroy "one and only hope of Galaxy". Not to mention that pressing magic button suddenly stops all Reaper's ground forces attack, even if you had Banshee's sniny ball flying at you.
Also, don't forget that Tuchanka's Destroyer managed to shot down one fighter and could destroy more.
Finally, Rannoch's Destroyer due some strange reason lased Shepard along, not across - given his height relatively to Shepard's location, that "balcony" our "brilliant commander" chose to "paint" Destroyer, would be fried in first sweep of laser.
Ow, speaking of fries. Boy back in Vancouver cannot survive being in lased room, yet Shepard and Anderson did?Image IPB

If they never handled spaceborne enemy, how they ever came to idea of AA gun in first place? Image IPB

Oh yeah. Since they don't want to give us any solid answer ("art" is not solid) - speculations is all what's left to us.
Pity.

To be fair, you're not missing that much. Aside from the Valiant, they're pretty situational. I personally favour the hurricane due to it's fantastic short-range performance, but as an all-round weapon the Hornet pulls ahead of it. The Eagle really only works as a mini-assault rifle and the shotgun is basically a gimped Paladin heavy pistol.

They're more alternatives than anything else. The only one that clearly pulls ahead of others in its class is the Valiant.

Snipers:
-Black Widow: need I say more?
-Valiant: a mini BW.  Lighter, higher ROF, faster reload, but less damage.

Shotguns:
-GPS: charge GPS - cloak - empty clip for absurd amounts of damage
-Wraith: fairly light, good damage, fast reload

Assault Rifles:
-Falcon: +Cryo Ammo for extra lulz.  Freezing three cannibals in one shot is hilarious.  Nocking enemies out of cover with the proximity detonation is awesome.
-Valkyrie: I know it's not exactly the best AR, but it looks cool and I like the two-round burst

Pistols:
-Scorpion: explosions are fun.
-Talon: a shotgun that can use pistol mods

SMGs:
-Hurricane: decent backup weapon for snipers.  Awesome when paired with Cryo or Explosive Incendiary ammo.
-Hornet: only other SMG that doesn't suck at everything.

Generally I agree.
Valkyrie is pretty much useless for accurate shooting till you slap dampner and scope on her, until then she's not that accurate.
Hurricane has such enourmous muzzle climb, so it's better be used unzoomed and at point-blank range (and kept unupgraded, otherwise that muzzle climb will kill all funImage IPB). Plus that RoF (bugged with dual-bullet waste?) eats through ammo supply very fast, even both mag mods doesn't help that much.
Crusader is pretty neat, if you can deal with it's weight (uber-heavy) and zero tolerance for mistakes, since point of impact = point of aim gun.
Eagle is quite funny with Incendiary Explosive ammo on small game, and has ample ammo supply.
Valiant is just superb. One drawback - total ammo carried is unaffected by upgrades, it always be 30+3 rounds. Can kill unprotected basic enemies with one headshot, shielded ones with two. Again, little tolerance for miss.

Raider shotgun us another point-blank weapon, but at least it's devastating there and allows second shot (mag size - 2) almost instantly after first one.
Argus rifle is one of those weapons I really don't know what to do with - spread is too big for mid-long range use, even with dampner and scope (and "Law Enforcement" tag makes me laugh), RoF is too slow for short-range engagement.

I assume we're talking SP. I generally play adept, infiltrator, sentinal, vanguard.

AR: Vindicator (I like that it's lighter for power spammage), Mattock (generally to companions)
Pistol: Carnifex
SMG: Hurricane (I barely use it), Hornet (for companions who do)
Sniper: I'm not very good with them in this version, Mantis or Widow (for companions)
Shottie: Katana, Disciple (lighter for power spammage) or Crusader (accurate for infiltrator); I seldom use companions for whom this is relevant (Tali can use either of first two listed)

With the stability mod, the Valkyrie's accuracy is acceptable for most situations.  You're not going to be landing headshots at long range, but whatever.  Its primary drawback is its weight.  Ultimately, it is a moderately more effective Vindicator that, for some reason, weighs as much as a Revenant.  I still use it because I think it looks cool and I like the two round burst.  Insanity isn't that hard, so I can get away without min-maxing my weapons.

The Hurricane is a highly situational weapon.  It melts faces at close range, especially with Explosive Incendiary ammo, but the muzzle climb makes it useless at range.  That's why I only pair it with a sniper.

I hate the Crusader.  The recoil is horrible and it weighs a ton.  The only reason I see to use it over the Carnifex, Paladin, or Saber is its innate cover penetration, which simply does not outweigh its disadvantages.

The Eagle does so little damage it's pathetic.  I'm pretty sure an Eagle X has a lower dps than a Predator I.  That is just absoluty sad.  Sure, it becomes more effective with ammo powers, but so does every other rapid-fire weapon.

The Valiant is amazing.  The only sniper I prefer over it is the Black Widow, and even then, the Black Widow is only truly better when you're dealing with lots of armored targets.  Mail-slotting three guardians in a single cloak cycle is awesome.

I don't have the Raider (I'm on 360), so I can't comment here.

Yeah, the Argus is a complete joke.  Law enforcement agencies would be very concerned with collateral damage, but how do you avoid collateral damage with a weapon with such awful recoil?  And the burst is just so slow it p*sses me off.

Assault Rifle:

M-15 Vindicator it might not be the most powerful gun but with the extended clip and stability damper mod it becomes a relatively lightweight, highly accurate weapon.

SMG:

M-12 Locust I usually use SMG's with an Adept to remove shields from targets. The Locust's higher accuracy and longer effective range means that I can strip shields from targets at a distance opening them up for biotic attack.

Shotgun:

Tied between the Geth Plasma Shotgun and the M-22 Eviscerator. The GPS' charged shot is powerful and the gun is great at long range, but its weight makes it better suited to a shotgun Infiltrator build. I like the Eviscerator when it's at its higher levels. The Eviscerator VIII weighs about the same as a Katana X and with the extended barrel mod it's almost as powerful as a Claymore I.

Sniper Rifle:

N7 Valiant it has next to no recoil, has a lightning quick reload speed, and the added benefit of a three shot clip. The Widows might do more damage, but the rate of fire and accuracy of the Valiant means that I can reliably land headshots.

Pistol:

Scorpion it's not overly powerful, has a tiny clip, and is generally not the most efficient choice of pistol but sticking little exploding bombs on baddies and watching them explode is lots of fun.

Assault Rifle: Vindicator

SMG: Geth Plasma SMG, it's one of those weapons I wish was in SP too.

Shotgun: Haven't really tried them much, but I like the Disciple for its weight.

Sniper Rifle: The only one I really use in MP is the Mantis, and Mantis X does its job amazingly. Raptor in SP rocks as well.

Pistol: Either the Paladin or the Scorpion (for SP)

Indeed - I personally started off using it to complement my Valiant and Particle Rifle. I also found it very effective on big targets - the damage per round and rapid fire rate meant it tears up protection on stuff like Brutes and Atlases pretty quick.

I hate the Crusader.  The recoil is horrible and it weighs a ton.  The only reason I see to use it over the Carnifex, Paladin, or Saber is its innate cover penetration, which simply does not outweigh its disadvantages.

The Crusader hasn't been balanced properly, imho. It's one of the heaviest weapons in the entire game - it should have the stats of an upgraded Graal, if its weight is anything to go by. I've yet to see a good reason to use it, which is a shame, considering it's got a nice model.

The Valiant is amazing.  The only sniper I prefer over it is the Black Widow, and even then, the Black Widow is only truly better when you're dealing with lots of armored targets.  Mail-slotting three guardians in a single cloak cycle is awesome.

Deciding between the Valiant and the BW is one of the harder choices of the game - neither is clearly better than the other.
