Why did they make this a game for adults?

Bioware claimed that their decision not to have naked breasts in this game was an "artistic decision".  Pretty ambigious, so I'm wondering what they really meant by that.  Are they saying that nudity is aesthetically offensive?  That it's something to be ashamed of?

This game presents itself as being for adults, and then fails to deliver a bit of harmless titillation.  I wonder to myself who this decision was made for--the game _still_ isn't suitable for kids and any adult who buys this game probably _expects_ the nudity.

Why did they think that people wearing bras and underpants during sex, or hair conveniently placed to cover a woman's nipples no matter how she moves her head, or werewolves after transforming back into humans still have all their clothes on--is artistically a better thing, as opposed to looking inane?  Bioware promised an adult game and they give us these very blatant kid-safety harnesses that just make you think "that's there because somebody isn't supposed to see...".  I find this more offensive than seeing a naked body, since they are passing judgement and deeming me not fit to see it, AFTER deeming me fit to see decapitations and child-slaying.

Seams are showing where in some cases it looks as if the game was originally intended to have nudity--when the desire demon rubs her breast her hand clips through those metal things covering the nipple.  If they were going to waste time covering up nakedness they created in the first place, they should be consistent and have planned it for kids right from the start.  This game could easily have been accessable to children with a few minor changes to the game and it would probably have been a more profitable route.  Get rid of the blood splashes and decapitations, get rid of the prostitutes and almost-naked demonesses, and this game would have been perfectly suitable for the younger generation.

So wait...you are complaining about no nudity??? Is that really a big problem in the game...truthfully....?

Some countries have stricter censorship and classification standards when it comes to nudity and sexual content as opposed to violence and gore.

Bioware are just operating within the world we live in.

It's part of the package.  I would have liked to see female nudity, but that's not the point.  It's not being deprived of nudity that bothers me, but the lameness of attempting to cover up nudity that was there and the judgement it implies.

Because, I reckon, the guys who made the game wants to make something they want to play themselves, as opposed to something that's been sanitized Disney-style.

It wouldn't be the same game without the innuendo, gore and romances.

I'd love to see them release an NR version just to see the ****storm of media it would cause.

Realistically though? My character might never learn how to unfasten a bra, but I'm happy as long as he gets splattered with blood after severing someone's head!

So murdering children, blood, gore, lust, etc...is not adult enough for you? You actually have to see the ****** and everything else too? Just so you know, you don't jump into bed nude to sleep with your partner, think of what you are seeing as the foreplay before the sex. If you need to see the nudeness download the mods they have out for it.

Yeah, nudity or no nudity doesn't really bother me, but the love scenes were just cheesy. I thought the issue was handled much better in Mass Effect; you still didn't see anything, but it was very tastefully done.

I'm in the UK and God of War had naked breasts in it.  Versions in other countries gave the ladies a bra (possibly including US, not sure).  So they could, I assume, have compromised the game only when the censorship of a particular country demanded it.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.

China - not allowed to show nudity of any sort, no blood or bones. Not every country is like the one you live in, and bioware is a company. Personally I wish you could just disable sex scenes. I can't stop laughing when I see adults making love with bra and some banana hammock on. Quite...strange.

That might have been ideal, yes. The Witcher was the same, the german version had naked cleavage on ladies, the american version had it covered up.

If censorship was the reason, why did they say it was an artistic decision? Why not say it was because of censorship?

You are saying that this game isn't actually an adult game because the characters are clothed during the small scene that involves sex, but it has everything else including murdering children, lots of blood, gore, and lust in it and it is still not adult enough for you.

I'm just theorising. Maybe it was just PR speak :-)

Perhaps it was an artistic decision and not censorship?

I wouldn't want naked ditties to be a selling point if I were to make a game.

Imo, the adult part is more for the violence, blood everywhere and suggestive sentences than the nudity. Adult doesn't always mean sex, and besides a body with a some clothes can be sexier than a naked body. as for the kid part, even without nudity that game has to be adult restricted because of the violence,

"Get rid of the blood splashes and decapitations, get rid of the prostitutes and almost-naked demonesses, and this game would have been perfectly suitable for the younger generation."

You know you are killing the game here cause that's some of the funniest things in it Think about it for a sec, removing half of the sentences of Oghren just to make it "for kids", the hell with kids, regular games are not only for kids... why an adult game should always be a porn-like game ><, it's time to get rid of that thinking.

And I quote "Bioware promised an adult game and they give us these very blatant
kid-safety harnesses that just make you think "that's there because
somebody isn't supposed to see...".  I find this more offensive than
seeing a naked body, since they are passing judgement and deeming

You have a problem with not seeing women nude in a video game.

I know, and my OP gave them the benefit of that doubt.

Ladies' wardrobe malfunctions in games tends to slap an AO rating on US releases. Remember the Oblivion disaster, where the game was pulled after someone discovered (gasp) the female form had been textured under the bra?

Indigo Prophecy also had to make some cuts to get released as M in the United States. The developers released an uncut version digitally, but (physical) retailers won't stock an AO game.

Of course, I find the whole concept of deciding what should go into a 17+ (M) and 18+(AO) game asinine. One year? Seriously? Does it make that much of a difference?

This particular game probably won't get an "uncut" version, but that's not stopping people from doing what they want in the toolset.

YOU don't, maybe, but we (myself and my gf) sure do. Man, as soon as supper's done the clothes come off and it's time to play naked vids together. That's OUR foreplay :o. Sometimes we don't even make it to the bedroom.

I tell you, nothing gets the libido going like a solid hour of COD, when the loser has to do all the work. It turns out the loser is a winner after all!!

Also you can have threesomes and scenes showing children killed and things being beheaded and blood splattered bodies and also half naked demons. I don't think theres need to be anymore reasons for it to be for adult. Like Someone said not all countries are the same.

In the original poster's defence, I got the impression he thought the men should be naked as well. Equal opportunity nakedness ;-)
