And that game got canned. :crying:

Sad day... I miss that game so, even if it did get annoying.

Break the game or something, anything.

+1

But then the first page wouldn't have a thread with "elitist" in the title.

I think a lot of the tension occurs between Silver and Gold. I'll try and group this based off my own experiences.

Gold

1. Elite players - the type of people who can solo Gold, know weapons, builds and mechanics inside out, can play virtually every class extremely well, finish most Gold matches in 20minutes etc. Some members of the forum are here.

2. Regular Gold players - The type of people who are skilled at 4 or 5 classes/characters and regularly beat Gold. Can carry a team of randoms if need be but don't have a complete knowledge of every build and setup for the classes. Usually finish 3rd with 75k-100k when playing with Elite players who score 140k+ or finish 1st or 2nd scoring over 100k when playing with randoms. Often plays games where all 4 players score 70-90k. I consider myself one of these along with many other forum members.

[There's a zone here of people who need good team mates to win and can't quite carry randoms to victory but are decent players none the less.]

3. Farmers and low tier Gold players - these people can farm WGG and have beaten max of 2 other Gold matches ever. Believe that you need perfect setups (characters, equipment) to stand a chance on WGG. Will kick anyone who doesn't meet their standards. Have a belief that they are elite level players and cause the most tension for....

~~ Friction Zone ~~

Top level Silver players - these people have played a lot of Bronze and Silver and are experienced enough to start playing Gold. Have characters between lvl15-20 and a few rare weapons. Know how to work as a team, use missiles and not die. However they run into [Gold 3] players first and therefore suffer the kicking/abuse that comes from low tier Gold players. Often they do not persist with Gold and never meet the [Gold 2] players who are willing to play with them. Responsible for the complaints regarding weekend events on Gold.

As a result these people go away with assumptions about elitists. People who are ready for Gold are scared off through perceived elitism which gives a bad rap to all Gold players. Then the belief arises in which it seems as if you need to have the ultimate setup to even get into a Gold lobby and that its not worth trying in the future. This leads to the topics you get warning Bronze/Silver players about not trying Gold.

Then there are the Bronze players who head up to Gold with lvl 8 characters and common weapons at IV. These are the people who annoy Gold 1 and 2 who can't always be bothered carrying such a person through a Gold match (but infuriate Gold 3 players).

Basically if top Silver players could bypass [Gold 3] players and play with [Gold 2] players then the system would work much better.

I like this post. I dont play this game 24/7 and only like to use a few classes, hence being in gold group 2. I can carry pub golds if i want to , but its not an enjoyable experience for me and I much rather everyone pull their weight and the match end in 20 minutes or less.

If someone has mics turned off, I'll usually vote kick them. This is because I interpret that as if they aren't interested in teamplay and just wants to do whatever they want without listening to anyone.

I don't consider myself an elitist, I consider myself a potential elitist though. It really depends on my mood and task.

I play this game for fun, playing with a combination of skills and weapons that doesn't make sense can be fun. Playing recklessly can really put me in a good mood.

Sure, I can play carefully and concentrate and solo gold, but I find that in a given day, I only have so much concentration to spend on something and I spend most of it IRL. If I can't concentrate it's not like gold is hard, it's more like I get a stronger sense of boredom.

I find that when I become an elitist, pushing the time it takes to clear a map, doing it with very skilled players and getting all the best gear as quickly as possible etc gets boring, fast. All I got left is try to come up with ideas to make the game fun again and more often than not it's to theorycraft new combinations. I try to refrain myself from doing things better and efficient in games, as I want to have fun. There's no end-goal or reward to be had for being elitist in a game.

I like odd people, odd choices, doing things wrong and inefficient can be a nice change of pace.

I fool myself everytime I do something, it's like I'm a stupid horse with a carrot infront of my face, only when I've arrived at the intended destination the carrot disappears. Time to look for a new carrot to chase and hope I'll get to eat it. In games, the carrot always disappears, learn to enjoy the ride.

-the end- :P

"You might gain a friend who could very quickly become a pro player." I couldnt agree more. But sometimes you just have to farm efficiently to get that damn black widow and not a stroke [which doesnt mean you cant take ONE 1 level player to farming spree, he will learn a lot]

I am a noob (N7 rating around 150), but I do have a few level-20 characters that I can use effectively, e.g. a human sentinel 0/6/6/6/6 build with a light hornet for maxed-out warp+throw spamming. I used this during the weekend to kill a lot of banshees. I already done my full gold extraction, and I wanted to do my share of banshee killing for the community.

But when I tried to join gold/reaper games last night I got into a lobby with 3 high N7 ranking players (in the thousands), who kicked me from the lobby without giving me a chance to play at least 1 game, simply because of my low ranking.

Then I joined another gold/reaper lobby where I out-scored a 1500+ N7 ranking player...
So, I say, tone down the elitism a bit guys!

True elite players embrace the challenge of teaching and helping Carry some of the more inexperienced players. I treat people in te lobbies the way I would like to be treated in return. I'm very vocal online and thrive off molding the beginner players into a very solid player in any gold match. With all of that being said, if you are a low level, bronze/silver player that wants to use an inferior character setup ( any Lvl 10 or below ) with no gold experience then your being booted. I will try to communicate with you pre match about the setup but if your not responding and not changing to a higher class for the benefit of the team then don't waste our time, come prepared to gold or stay in bronze/silver.

I never have a mic on, and I generally stick by my team and cover the flank.  The only time I won't stay near my team is when they're adamant on staying in the least defensible area on the map, because at that point at least when they get swarmed I won't get swarmed with them.

Considering their high N7s, they might have been waiting on a friend or something.  Not a very common occurance for 3 N7s in the thousands to be thrown at random into a game with each other (it's happened like...twice to me), unless they specifically stated they were kicking you due to your N7 before kicking you.

Also, tossing in an edit: "Elitist" =|= Elite.  An elitist believes they are better than others, which doesn't make them an elite player.  Also, just because a player wants to kick you doesn't make them an elitist, they can have any number of reasons (although just your N7 rank could be one).  Ask yourself if your setup looks absolutely crazy (not just a little off the path, but in the eyes of someone who hasn't seen it used/used it, idiotic), if your weapons are low level, if your character is low level, etc.  You may be able to solo gold with a Level 1 Infiltrator, but your teammates won't know that.

N7 1000+ is usually a bad sign anyway, and should be treated with far more caution than someone rated 150-300.

Hah, OniGanon's sig reminds me of another silly way to get kicked... playing a Quarian Infiltrator with a really bad team, carrying their sorry asses, and then getting kicked for having a low score because of the Sabotage glitch, because the people are too damn stupid to recognize that you were killing the majority of enemies (and that they were getting credit for your sabotage kills if they did so much as tickle the enemy slightly with a GPSMG shot or something).

It's never actually happened to me, but I've heard of it happening to other people.

I would cry if I have a QI who uses sabotage. I met one the other day who had no idea about its value. I told him and he tried it out a few times.when it got heated and hewas soloing wave7 he forgot it all and got killed as well. It was a reaper match.

I mostly stick with Bronze, but have a couple of friends that are good in Gold. I have a mic and I take direction. Did a Gold yesterday for the first time with full extraction, and am happy that it worked out and grateful for the direction I was give by someone who was used to Gold. Now I'm going back to Bronze for the most part. I'm not going to wander into a random Gold game unless I have my favorite weapons maxed out, which will be a while.

Thing is, unless you play Gold, you really can't learn how it is, so its a Catch-22 for us noobs. Strategy is different. I agree that it works out better if everyone has a core list of buddies to play with most of the time.

Edit: I used a Quarian Infiltrator and knew to use Sabotage. :)
