I would "ask" them to submit to us until I feel they won't be a threat anymore, question them, find their motives, then make my desicion. But I would be pretty harsh, You have to understand I would personally be scared.

So you wouldn't treat another intelligence as equal to you?

But are they intelligent or just simple programs that simulate intelligence?

This argument tires me out. The only reason it exists is because of familiarity. Out entire arguments for the geth being "people" are entirely based on our assumptions about the closest analogue, which is us.
The argument against could be considered racism, as there was a similar time when we claimed blacks were animals, even though they showed similar traits to what we called "people."
It's called social change. Our definition of "people" changes with the majority, but there will always be a minority of people (and trolls) who refuse to adjust their views to conform to the evolving status quo.

They spared them because of calculations. Too many variables.

How does that have any significance to the Geth's intelligence?

Well, the fact that they were smart enough to know when an issue would be too big for them to handle denotes a fair bit of intelligence.

If they were simply doing as you postulated, they would have kept attacking as that'd be all they knew.

Are we really going to take the opinions of Judas with anything more than a grain of salt?

It wouldn't be self-aware, then.

Computers can crash from too many variables.

In a similar fasion. since they did not know what to do because they cannot calculate what next, they might have had a "crash?"

I think the old idea of "I think, therefore I am" is relevant to this. The geth are able to question their existance. They are sentient. They are people.

Our rovers on mars were self-aware. Did not make them intelligent.

Our computers crash because we overload them with too many calculations; in essence, we TELL them to overload themselves.

The Geth were smart enough to avoid that crash.

It's the analogous with the Human brain: if it receives too much information, it'll pass you out momentarily ergo we attempt to avoid those situations.

Under these circumstences no, something I created becomes self aware without my doing and I have no idea what its thinking, nope I wouldn't

I was using self-aware as an interchangeable term with sentience.

But how do we know that the Geth did not have a fail-safe for that very situation.

My calculator will tell me when it cannot calculate something. Does not mean it stopped it, rather it was told to do something else to avoid the "crash."

We also tell our calculator to do this.

If your assumption is true, the Geth told themselves to use this failsafe.

Sentient life dog. They may not be "people" but they are indeed sentient. Really, that's all that matters (to me). The whole consensus, problem-solving, and their concept on what other races are and and be considered as to themselves. Boom sentient life.

Time for an IF THEN statement from a purely physical standpoint:
IF Geth are machines, THEN some machines must be Geth
IF Geth operate by use of electrical impulses, THEN some machines must use electrical impulses to operate
IF humans use electrical impulses (neuron interaction, nerves, etc...) to operate, THEN some machines must be humans
IF some machines are Geth and some machines are humans, THEN humans and Geth are both machines
IF humans and Geth are both machines, THEN humans and Geth are the same.

It's flawless logic. Flawless. Undeniable. Fact.

We told the calculator that in such a catastrophic event, do this.

The calculator does not choose the failsafe, it just does what the creator told him.

The Geth were used as tools before. The Quarians could have placed a fail-safe to prevent the Geth from crashing while they work.

All our history it based on one species.

The problem at hand here is organics and synthetics. We organics were created equal according to the laws of nature but not synthetics. So we are in a dilemna here.

We just don't have the insight now to make an informed decision. It has not happened to us yet but it will. Until then, we can't really say much.

This is true, but explain to me how you postulate the perimeters of racism to change should the advent of a synthetic intelligence were to be crated.

Same as what I said above. Do they have something of their own? It seems like they "copy" us, organics. Does mimicking something intelligent make you intelligent?

Edit: The Rannoch mission showed much of what we already knew. Just in a more sympathetic light.

Do humans have anything to call their own? Or are they just copying the actions and beliefs of their parents, and those around them? Intelligence is not determined by "having something of their own". Intelligence is a combination of morals, higher reasoning, and personality. A virtual intelligence takes information from its environment, compares it to known situations, and then produces a result. Like a calculator, computing 4 * 4. The integer 4 is defined, and the multiplication function is also defined. True intelligence allows us to make decisions and choices based on incomplete data, undefined variables, and unknown factors. Intelligence also involves the desire to learn and modify our core programming as we encounter new situations and assimilate new information.

They do have things of their own. Simple way to put that is instincts. Still fair point. It does not measure intelligence.

Question here is, when have the Geth ever had a situation that required them to make decisions on incomplete data. Seemingly, they require and outside influence to make a decision for them.

But is that the case?

Only we, humans, are placed on the top because we are intelligent enough to use technology.
