What a "person" is is rather pointless semantics.  The only thing that really matters is sentience, in any form it may exist in, and the Geth very much have that. 

If the geth we're not as innocent as they are revealed to be, not just willing but actually anticipating a peaceful resolution, if they we're completely stubborn in a goal set on making enemies of the other races like Reapers, then yeah fighting them and attempting at destroying them is understandable and to be expected simply by the laws of darwinism.  But when they show, perhaps not what we would call compassion, but... an understanding that conflict is unnessisary, then as intelligent enlightened beings its only natural we see the same possibility and make accordance.  Where there is agreement and harmonious tolerance, even when still short of true acceptance or partnership which even that the Geth showed willingness of, there is no need for conflict. 

The Quarians are in the wrong in every way really.  Once the Geth gained sentience they became a soverign species.  Then, showing no signs of conflict against their makers, they began to be the victims of genocide.  It was within their every right, nigh, it was their natural duty as self-aware beings to defend themselves.  Yet even then they saught to forgive their makers and find peace even after every wrong doing that had occured was in the hands of the sturbborn Quarians who refused even a true let alone true acceptance.  Robots or not, chemical compassion or just cold mathmatics, they were in the right.  If peace could not be found, which luckily it was (for me at least), they truly deserved to be the survivors.

I don't agree with the OP, as I accept the Geth as people equal to us (I made peace between the quarians and the geth, I wouldn't have it any other way) but I respect his opinion, and he does have some valid points. I'd try to refute some of his other points, by having a civil discussion, but I think this thread is completely derailed now, so I won't bother. Instead of doing that, nearly everyone on this forum has called him a troll, a racist, and have derailed the forum like cowards, with stupid jokes. Good job

AI sentience plays the same role as it does in the philosophy of animal rights. Animals are not equal to humans. We must do everything we can to treat them correctly (vegetarian or not), but they are not people. If you consider the geth and that ship your equal, you also consider yourself an animal. You consider yourself a lower lifeform. Hence you do not consider yourself human/turian/quarian/whatever you are as an organic. You have  succeeded in lowering yourself to their level.
