Lyrebon, when did I say that I defend people that kills other people for fun? The Geth are not alive they are still just machines, In my playthrough where i couldn't make peace between them I sided with the geth because I thought that the quarians were wrong. But I still don't think that they are alive and I don't think destroying them is the same as genocide.

I'm sad that they had to be destroy in the destroy ending but they are still just machines that could possibly be rebuilt

Personally I think this whole topic wouldn't be an issue if you did not have to choose between the two races. We're being defensive for no reason here. Rannoch should be about saving the Quarians and the Geth from the reapers, succeeding or failing. If you fail, both races die. If you succeed both races live.

I just blame poor writing.

Yeah because according to biology they are alive and the geth are not. And I don't buy the whole "this unit have a soul" thing because I don't believe in souls

I said you must advocate dictators and sadistic people if you can categorize them under "alive" (which they are, valid point). But the way you spoke, being "alive" sounded like an immunity from persecution. Essentially you were defending those criminals, saying they had the right to life, while promoting the genocide of a race based on their synthetic construct.

At least, that's how it translated.

As for those who are questioning whether Geth are alive, they exhibit homeostasis, metabolisation, organisation, adaptation, stimuli response and reproduction. They may also exhibit growth, though Legion's self-patching with N7 armour suggests they might not. They do, however, meet as many criteria for life as many things that we consider alive from existing biology.
