Seriously, Imagine playing a more intense version of Tali's trial from ME2, defending your actions during ME2. From breaking Jack out of prison to destroying the Alpha Relay. Then having your surviving crew from the original Normandy speak on your behalf.

Here is a poll on the subject

social.bioware.com/3553277/polls/33781/

Hopefully after the ending hoopla is over Bioware can make this a dlc. I am willing to pay for this Bioware

Yes, I was hoping this would happen. It would be an interesting way to begin the game, with Shepard actually on trial defending his action, the VS, Vega and Anderson watching on. It seems to be another missed opportunity.

That's what I thought would happen.

It could have also doubled as a way for new players (or players without imported Shepards) to set major past decisions. An in-game equivalent to the Genesis comic, if you will.

Would've been kinda cool, though I think they wanted to get straight to the action; they didn't want you potentially standing around for half an hour or more before the "actual" game "really" starts. And either way, it definitely would have thrown off new players... or so I thought, until I saw this suggestion.

This actually would have been a fantastic idea. It would have given new players a quick summary of the backstory and an introduction to the conversation mechanics, while allowing returning players to witness the results of their choices. (Which made me think of something else - was there ever any real explanation of the backstory? Granted, yes, I played an imported character from ME1, but most of the time, it seemed like there wasn't much explained in-game without having to read the Codex. Unless dragging Vega along more often helps out that way...?)

To be unnecessarily rude and unfair; I'm not entirely sure that the category of new players they were trying to attract, were the sort to care that much about either the backstory, or the running one, in the first place.
More the spoonfeed-me-in-as-short-as-possible-bursts-between-the-action type.

I'd like it, on the condition Shepard could be an absolute troll to whoever's questioning him.

Yeah!

You know, I thought upon first play that the "trial" was happening ("We fight or we die! scene), but no. Shepard was given a pass considering the ship was taken (ME, I think. You and Anderson had to get it back!)

No need for exposition though. There was ME for that. It was go time afterwards!

This makes that "recall quiz" from ME2 brilliant which is somrthing else I don't get! Shepard never remembered things about him/herself. All of the refreshing came from the NPCs!

For instance, I knew she was from Akuze and all that happened, but as unpleasant as it was - how could she forget it?

I'm okay with that I'm just wondering.

Coming from gameplay - not BTS stuff.

This is what should have happened. The current beginning of the game is sloppy at best. You just start while staring out a window. Either somebody actually thought this was a good idea (unlikely) or there was a trial sequence that they had planned, but was cut due to budget/time concerns.

Right now, the beginning of the game is slightly confusing at best. For any new player to the series, the automatic reaction is going to be, "huhh?"

That's what I expected would happen, but unfortunately didn't.

Also, I like this idea. I guess one of the reasons the trial wasn't in the game was Bioware making the game more friendly towards necomers who haven't played ME 1 or 2.

There's no reason for it. It'd just be fanservice.

Yes I was also expecting to see/play the trial as the intro for the game so I was disappointed when it wasn't there.

It would have been real cool to play the trial out as Shep and also have your crew there sticking up for you and your actions. Also I was thinking that during the trial perhaps during the end it was then that the reapers first invade earth or something giving that big oh crap moment.

So yeah I guess if I were making the game I'd have done the intro differently.

This was certainly a missed opportunity from BioWare. Instead of with the immediate action, ME 3 should have started somewhat slower and built up to the revelation that currently happens right at the beginning of the game.

Heck, sign me up! It's one of the things I was looking forward to when ME3 released! I'm hoping that they'll still do it and use it as a means to make decisions from ME2 like the Genesis DLC, and as you answer questions and defend yourself you have a brief flashback that lets you make decisions. But please w/ the in-game engine instead of a half-baked, sub-par Dark Horse comic. Oh, and please let the writing be better too.

It could also have been used to determine your attitude towards Cerberus/Alliance/ the Council. You know allow you to RP rather than the autodialogue we got of

Cerberus is evil!
The Council is wonderful!
The Systems Alliance is even more wonderful!

Which is interesting because in 1+2 you could tell them all to go jump off a bridge and by 3 they really deserve it.

My guess was that it would be a dlc, but then again a dlc with nothing but dialogue would be a little weird. Maybe a new mission afterwards or before about cutting ties from cerberus or telling the illusive man to stick it somewhere.

When I originally heard about the trial, I figured it woud be shepard on trial and then right after they declare the verdict or right before, the reapers are seen landing outside the window.

So...I take it the Extended cut dlc is weird to you?

Same here. I'm almost as disappointed about the start of the game as I am about the endings. The Trial would have have been a great opportunity for roleplaying and for filling in new players. The intro we got with the ridiculous committee, the pathetic autodialogue and the instant invasion is just weak beyond belief.

Cutting the trial out was such a wasted oppurtunity.
