A lot of posts have been cropping up recently with claims of carrying people, when the scores are actually decent or good and you had a geth infiltrator running around outscoring everyone, this seems to be the new carry claim but it is BS. If you have a QE or KS with 100k+ and everyone is 40k or less, that is carrying. 120+>70K Geth Infiltrator is not carrying...

score is no (true) indifcation of
1. Team work
2. Skill

People who have played MP long enough will notice there are certain tricks to helping with score, primarily the use of AOE and/or a drone/turret. There are also other little tricks one can use to bump up their score. e.g. even before you headshot something if you use certain tech/biotic power before blowing somethings head off you will get a slight bonus to your score for that kill than if you just straight headshotted the thing.

Also if another person has taken down a target to say 25% health and then a sniper using a high damage weapon kills it, they get the majority of the score attributed to that kill. This seems to be lag or client latency dependant.

Bottom line, score indicates bugger all in terms of skill or teamwork, there are many ways to get a high score even with low skill. It takes significantly less skill to throw aoes than to headshot a moving phantom on the other side of the map. And that is a crude example.

Don't worry what anyone else says etc, just enjoy the game, if someone wants to pipe their horn, let them cause the truth has a nasty habit of bitting people when they least expect it

Well, is it possible for evereyone to get 70k or so while the GI hits 140k?
The GI could still be carrying the bottom two teammates while the 70k player is getting an easy run due to t he GI thinning a lot of the mobs out.

Or the other team mates could not usually score that high, and are doing better than usual simply because the GI is doing so well.

Carrying the team depends on the context of all player skill and interactions, not just score.

I do understand your point though, in general.

I'm inclined to agree. I score high with my melee GI, but that's only because I'm spawn-killing a lot of grunts, especially on smaller maps like Glacier. If you're doing your job well enough, that can mean that my teammates don't really have much to shoot at.

It also doesn't mean I'm some kind of super-elite pro person. It just means that the GI is a very powerful class when used well.

On the other hand, if you're scoring more than the rest of your team combined, plus a 10k margin, that's carrying.

So, when i played my Melee GI on Glacier with decent team i was carrying them? (twice the team score combined)
Or it's because i never left em any grunts to shoot?

Oh, this certainly. GI is ridiculously OP.

Doesn't mean the OP's point is absolute, though.

Silly debate that can only be debated with super-anal reasoning.

Eep!

Okay, I get the bit about range of score disparity.  However, how is class relevant? Are you saying your contribution counts for less if you're playing a different class, even though, for example, the Krogan Soldier is less of a support class than the Geth Infiltrator is (the GI debuffs enemies and generally revives and grabs objectives more)?  Or are you saying that the average GI's rampage will be crippled if teammates aren't absorbing aggro or something?  Or what?

Disagree.

Two N7 100s

Btw, that one Drell Adept's level is misleading, because it was after

THIS GAME ON HYDRA/CERBERUS

And then also

THIS GAME ON GHOST/GETH

Now granted, it's not a solo carry because one of my friends (abe of the moon) was definitely helping, but it was a duo carry for sure.  Btw, D4rk50ul, if you're reading this, I'm sorry I couldn't accept the game invite, I was helping these guys out.

Does it count if the infiltrator carried the game disk to their gaming platform?

I honestly don't think score is indicative of carrying really.

You know what to me is carrying? A Turian soldier holding the fort in FB Giant at the main base, on the right side where ammo spawns while the other 3 teamates hold it on the left side of the base just so enemies don't spawn behind us or flank the other 3 guys. This is my strategy when playing on Giant.

It always goes unnoticed among my teamates until they're being dicks about how i should be near them. When out of spite i join them, 100% of the time we eventually get overrun cause phantoms spawned directly behind us and lose the match.

So yeah that's carrying a team fellas.

I always notice these guys, and kudos to you for doing it.  *thumbsup*

I can't stand when all 3 people want to cover the same direction.  I ESPECIALLY can't stand it when they start complaining about killstealing when that particular brand of stupidity occurs.  Aaaargh.  :pinched:

Depends.  If an N7100 comes into my game with a Level 3 Adept, then yes, I'm pretty much carrying him, and the scores will reflect that.

Haha, omg, that's why I had to go buy a headset for PUGs.  I really didn't want to do it, but sometimes, just the ability to say "HEY GUISE WHAT ABOUT OUR FLANK?" is the difference between extraction and wipe.

Yeah. I've also once experienced pretty much exactly what Scalabrine described: being yelled at for "not being with the team" on Giant, even though I was doing nothing but saving their oblivious PuG asses the entire game.  And as soon as I stopped they all died almost instantly.   [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]

It was pretty ridiculous to hear this one guy who was spending his time spectating yelling at the "bad Asari Vanguard" who "isn't a team player" for "not being with the team."  Got the whole Vanguards Are Bad shpiel despite the fact that I was covering the flanks alone and had the highest score (since they all ended up dying and I had to finish things out my own damn self while listening to this newbie yell at me for being a Vanguard) while they all fought over kills in that one wide open area where the upper middle hack is.  You know the one.

It's even more frustrating because one good sniper infiltrator can generally cover that entire flank so effectively that the instant something comes into their line of sight it's already gone, but looking at PuGs you'd think that you'd have to have 4 people watching it all the time and never EVER looking in any other direction.

I shameless use GodlessPaladin GI build (need to respec for something else, honestly) and I average 140 K per run. But there's no way I'll ever say I "carry" the team. I do more damage, yes, but without the other 3 guys I would be nothing but a glorified toast before end of wave 6.

Whoever claims that they consistently "carry" the team should instead post a sucessful solo gold run (something I have yet to acheive, keep failing wave 10...)

ahaha, that sounds exactly like 99% of the matches I've been in on Giant.  I dunno, when I see an Asari Vanguard, I automatically assume they know what they're doing (byproduct of reading these forums, I guess).  I also ran into a pretty sick one who used the Paladin III and managed to outscore me, a Geth Infiltrator :crying:  Just a little embarrassing.

Asari Vanguards are awesome against Cerberus with a Paladin or Graal.  Or a Carnifex with equipment bonuses.

If only Lift Grenades were better though...
