Hey folks, remember speculation?

Remember how we should -really- hate it? Desires for speculation got us a Cherry, Blueberry, Apple ending.

So instead of speculating about the Rebellion DLC (Seriously? Yahg?) let us use the evidence we have at hand to identify who and what the next three new races are.
  • Nothing that doesn't have a vaguely human shape will ever make it into Multiplayer due to mechanics and collision map issues.  Sorry, there never will be a Volus, Elcor, Hanar etc.
  • This leaves certain races more likely then others. Quarian males, Vorcha, and protheans are the only humanoid race not added that COULD be added.
  • There are already 13 human classes (including BF3). There won't be any more.
  • No combat troops from cerberus survive interrogation due to the bombs placed in their heads by Cerberus. No powers that Phantoms have are translatable into a player character (aside from tactical cloak). If you had played the game where Jacob survived ME2, there is an entire mission where you rescue a large number of cerberus scientists... this is who BW referenced in their operation Silencer release.
  • Multiplayer is only loosely based on Singleplayer.  What if the player did not side with the Geth? the Quarians? What if Shepard killed Ballak? The story matters far less here then in SP. Expect the plot to get railroaded several times.
  • Powers established for Protheans have been moved from Single Player reference files to Multiplayer reference files. This, combined with the very clear statement in the first major leak (that forshadowed Resurgence) that protheans were to be added to MP, puts the nail in the coffin. There will be two prothean classes, get over your butthurt and move on.
  • The leak suggested Quarian Engineers and Infiltrators. Since we already have two quarians, it was suggested that it was a miscommunication, and they meant "Turians".  However, some leaked pictures of a male quarian have been released, and they are -easily- the most wanted of the 'acceptible' races out there. This may be a situation where BW paid attention to the fans.
  • Vorcha were mentioned in the leak, and then were all but confirmed (if you want to hold Resurgence to the same bar as Rebellion) with the silencer report.
Sorry Bioware, I ended your speculation.

Now, on to their possible powers.

The Quarians can have two possible power routes: The lazy human style where they have the same powers as their female counterparts, or entirely unique powers. I am personally expecting the same exact powers simply out of being the easier of the two routes.

Vorcha are likely to have blade armor like the Batarians and be heavily focused on close combat. It is also likely they will have some kind of regenerative power as well. I could forsee carnage there as well for the soldier.

Protheans are the easiest to expect. As a racial power, Dark Channel is the most likely since it is a perfect setup for a Biotic explosion with both Slam and Biotic Charge. What the third 'generic' power is.. who is to say?

It would be really funny if BioWare never put protheans into the game after this.

About ex-Cerberus:
masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Broker_Terminal
Email from Captain A. Reynolds to Miranda Lawson

"Ms. Lawson:

The Alliance wishes to express its gratitude for your assistance. With the information you've been sending us on Cerberus, we've been able to avoid ambushes they were setting up for our supply convoys.

We'd offer you additional resources, but I understand you've procured a class-F private fighter and joined up with former colleagues. I also understand that several Cerberus bases were lost after being attacked by a reported group of "private special operatives" of no known affiliation.

The Alliance cannot officially condone this kind of independent operation, nor do we actually confirm that these operations are taking place.

Good luck, Ms. Lawson."

- Shall we assume that this  group of "private special operatives" stopped working on their own and started to work with n7 teams?

i think its far more likely to be ex-cerberus than Protheans as at the moment Bioware does not need any more controversy on their hands. If u read various threads on here about Protheans in MP, there are a large number of people who are very strongly against their inclusion. I for one think rocking around as a Prothean adept would be awesome but i guess well just have to wait and see.

Controversy? It's their game. They can justify it all they like simply by adding fluff. All they need to do is say "Hey we found a vault filled with angry protheans, looks like they want to fight the reapers, sure why not!"

More human chars is just boring.
Protheans are no. 1 on the fans wish list. And bioware needs to do some fan service.
Of course there will be some whining about lore but as easy as Javiks is introduced they can do it with other Protheans.

Great post. As much as I'd love a Hanar character I know it'll never happen.

Can you not count above 13? Because that seems to be your only argument against Ex-Cerberus

It's their game and they can justify their lore however they want, but you seem to think you have somekind of say in what will happen. You don't.

Most of your points ARE irrefutable.
Some aren't

Geth in multiplayers are Networked AI. They are still the real Geth. Not the ones with upgrades. They do exhibit behavior not entirely what you'd expect from geth - thanking someone, talking, calling out targets, asking for protection when doing objective. So did Legion. Geth can improve without needing the reaper upgrades.

Quarians in MP could be the ones on their pilgrimages that refused to return to the flotilla, or allowed to be absent.

AKA MP doesn't have to be AFTER the point where Shepard allied with geth/quarians in SP. In fact it wouldn't matter  what timeline MP follows - the galaxy is so damn big it's not like all geth will turn against organics when the reaper signal hits.
It's not like ALL quarians were annihilated when the geth shot them.

Non of that means MP contradicts SP.

And yeah, there are numbers beyond 13. I think humans make more sense than Protheans, which isn't really an argument.
But people do want protheans...

I think the Op has some valid points but I disagree about power just being reused. In the previous dlc each new character brought one new power with them, we can then assume that this will be the same for any new characters in the up-coming dlc. Concerning protheans-all races that are in the single player who join Shephard's team, and can be brought on missions, will likely be scene in multiplayer.  ( I wouldn't even be surprised if you found yourself playing with a fully self aware Ai, wink-wink)

Well, great to see that you played the game. There is a great moment when the alliance captures a phantom (or a nemesis i can't remember off the top of my head).  Before they can interrogate her, an ocular bomb detonates and kills her.

Also, get over your love for ninjas-in-space. we have our own infiltrators for that.

The strongest point, however, is that there is no precident for them. We know about the quarians and the vorcha, but neither of them get slam or dark channel. Why add these to MP if you are adding human characters into the third racial slot?

The only real reasons to think it's protheans is the name phoenix (from ashes) and because javik's model is already available. Those are mighty good reasons, but there are arguments for others as well. Lore aside, the name rebellion suggests species who formerly worked with the Reapers. This might be cerberus (models also available) or collectors (worked for reapers AND prothean).

Point is your anti speculation is speculative. Also, phantom powers are very translatable into SP. Damage reduction skills and direct damage projectile skills already exist. They already added special melees, they can do it again.

maybe no.1 on your wish list. I hate javik, he pisses me off and i dont want other protheans. They are ugly, stupid, arrogant and despotic. Javik treats all races like bugs, despite all of the normandy crew can beat his stupid ass in 1vs1 fight. Avatar of vengence. Yeah right. Wrex could call himself that way. Not this idiot. They dont deserve to be alive. In MP i want them as enemies, to headbut them with my krogan.

1. Protheans/Phoenix weren't mentioned in the Weekend Op. Cerberus, Vorcha, and Tech specialists were.

The poll was pretty clear, and you are really weighing heavily with your own opinion, a lot of people liked Javik, me included.

Also...

Don't you treat ants like bugs? to his society, that's all we were. Funny looking insignificant life forms with potential. Like a particularly large and complex ant hill to a curious child.

Find the leaked Rebellion DLC info thread. Someone posted the changes to the MP power list after the most recent patch went through.  Also, just before the Resurgence DLC, only batarians were mentioned. Not the geth, Battlemasters or Justicars.
