"I promise son, you'll get to see a real sword up close soon."

- Fergus.

I about did a spit take when I heard this line today. (Clicked on the boy before leaving the room for the cut scene in the Human noble origin). It begs the question - Foreshadowing? Irony? Or....

WAS FERGUS IN ON MURDERING HIS OWN FAMILY?

Here's my theory...

Arl Howe had no way of knowing that Loghain was going to be able to make sure Callahn died at Ostagar, so given that he couldn't count on Loghain's ascension to reagent for protection for such an atrocious act, nor could he bank on Fergus (the rightful heir to the teyrn) being killed in battle, he had to have another angle...

Fergus was getting tired of his preachy wife and mentally retarded son with the speach impediment. Somehow he strikes a deal with Arl Howe;

"Listen here Howe, when the King calls I shall ride forth early with the host from Highever, leaving behind my father and a token guard. All you have to do is show up to drink with my father, and then let your men into the castle. Kill them, and upon returning I shall claim the teyrn for my own and grant you a quarter of the estate!"

It could happen! Maybe it happened just like that! Maybe when you meet Fergus at the end of the game, instead of being all like "Sorry about your broken head, boy you missed alot" you should be ****punching the bastard.

The way I see it, there are far too many coincidences here and really illogical actions on Howe's behalf (if he was going to take over Highever, he should have had a plan to eliminate Fergus as well but evidently didn't).

It's also possible that this was the original intended subplot for this origin, but they neutered it due to time/budget constraints. Boy I would love to hear from a writer on this one...
