I like to keep a balance in my groups, and I've ran into a problem. I heard shale is a decent tank, but alistair can also do well/ needed for much of the game's plot. I'm also having trouble deciding wether I should ditch shale, and bring liliana (Spelling?) toe the party as an archer.
MC is a 2 hand melee.
Healer is wynne.
Tank is either shale or Alistair.
another ranged dps ??
Help with tank and ranged.

Yes bring Lelianna , or Zevran if you know what you're doing and can make him powerful mostly for the lockpicking free loot and xp

Would it be wise to use the Respec prop and reconfigure Lelianna? If no, what areas/talents should I invest in?

Keep Leliana as archer and focus on the archery tree. Make her a Ranger later on and max that tree as well for some beefed up beasties.
With Leliana and your own 2h warrior, you should take all the Hex spells on Vynne and make her Death Hex whatever you're pelting.

Archery blows BIG TIME
It would be better that , if you actually can respec her then turn her into a dual wielder give her Lethality , coup de grace , combat movement , (Assassin spec) exploit weakness , riposte , and dirty fighting
Set her tactics to include
#1. Enemy Immobilized : Attack
#2. Enemy Any : Riposte
#3. Enemy : Using a melee attack : Dirty fighting
Teach Wynne Haste and the para glyph and set Wynne to "Ally being attacked by melee attack" and then watch Zevran or Lelianna DESTROY things
Edit : Important note : Zev/Leli are to go to 20 STR and no further , after that pump their DEX/CUN , give whichever one you choose as your rogue all the +backstab/critical dmg gear you can find for them (If you listen to me and make them DW) (The Roses thorn dagger + The edge is my reccomended weapon set for them) (Red Jenny Seeker gloves are mandatory as well , you get them by doing the trial of crows)
More edit : Trust me on this , I've beaten the game as a Rogue 3 times
Even more edit : Be sure to put the best +dmg runes you can find on Zevrans daggers for him , it will make him even more insane for you

I always respect Leliana to dualweapon. Just dont like archery much. Not only its low damage, it also has no stuns.

Yeah except that Leli comes with like 4 levels wasted on archery crap , but at the same time Zev comes w/ no lockpicking pre chosen so its like ehhh
But in the long run Zevs unwasted points make him the better choice

Could I have some tactics for Leli if I respec her? I heard that bard is still good to have. I myself dont like controlling a rogue.

Self : Any : Song of Valor
Enemy Immobilized : Attack
Enemy Any : Riposte
Enemy : Using a melee attack : Dirty fighting
Self : Health < 25% : Use health poultice least powerful
Those mainly

Yeah, its a shame archery is more of a support role in this game as im a fan of archers in other games.
They do ok here but its noting to write home about. Slow attack speed, no runes in bows, poisons worthless to archers. Compared to DW rogues , archers are lacklustre.
Its shame Leli comes with 4 archer talents when you pick her up tbh, tho i understand Bio wanted that for RP reasons. I think on my next play i'll just take upto arrow of slaying on her then work on DW finesse and upto momentum. Pop a few archer skills off then pop her into melee. Might work, but then it'll be late game before she does well as shes my lockpicker really.
Personally i always have a rogue in my party. The extra XP from disarming traps and opening doors/chests adds up nicely.
Tank wise Shale is probably better early on until Alistair gets more shield skills and threaten/taunt. But then Alistair works out better later on ive found. And he is in the plot more often. So personal preference really, tho i tend to use Shale as DPS if im a rogue/mage or tank myself as shes a fantastic character

^Heh I got tired of Leliannas weakling damage and threw her out of the party and replaced her with Zevran on my Paladin save
The downside is that Zevran comes with no lockpicking at all , and then he either has to go a few levels gimp because hes "wasting" his points on lockpicking talents , or go a few levels without being able to pick locks
I went with no lockpicking for now and that sucks but at least I can go back through areas with him once he does have it , or bring Lelianna back through places

Wrong. Archery not only has a stun, it has an aoe stun.

Only reason i use Leliana (unless im a rogue as my current plauthrough) is that i prefer her to Zevran.
I may have to start respeccing her on other playthroughs. Tho id prefer not to ;(

I've beaten the game with both Shale and Alistair, seperate run throughs.
My Shale run only had a single heal spell from Morrigan for our healing through most of the game, with occasional poultice useage. Only until the final battle did I bother with a heal spell on my PC caster for two whole basic heal spells.

Player through game several times.
Found best party as follows: Two fighters Alistair, Lilliana Duelist\\Bard, my character mage, and Wynne healing and backup spells.
I found this combination more than capable of defeting all emimies. Also found this combination the best for killing dragons.
