Maybe EMS is not the only thing that contributes to the breath scene. Or EMS is stored in multiple places.

Or maybe it recalculates it during the ending sequence?
By the way, I got messages from you and a few others about playing from the saves posted - yes please! If you could that'd be fantastic - I've wound up hurting myself a bit and I'm away from home, but I'll have my gaming laptop tomorrow and can try doing one of the ending options myself then...

I don't get it. You edited EMS but it stayed the same? Was the editing somehow reflected on the War Room console?

I loaded up my game today that I posted in an earlier post.  I copied it when I got to the beam.  I then reloaded it each time to complete the game as control, synth and destroy.  The destroy game did NOT give me the breath scene.  I then loaded it up again but I edited the EMS score value.  The same game save with the edited EMS score DID give me the breath scene.  Each time the game ended however it just reloaded the legend save - which had the original value for my EMS score instead of the few hundred thousand I edited it to have.

If the Normandy you were put on is the same save file as the one that you just did the ending CS with and stuff then the EMS value should stay the same since the value was edited.

Basically put.  The moment the game saves before you attack the Illusive mans base is the game that is loaded upon completion of the game.  The legend file isnt modified and so no data is recorded on it after completion.

The ending we have was the original ending they intended.  There was no planned continuation of the story.  They wanted it the way they had it so that you could speculate on the ending.  Everyones ending WOULD be the same and yet everyones perception of what they saw would lead them to different conclusions.  Canonising each persons story on an individual basis where you pretty much made the rest of the story up in your head based on your speculation.

Its brilliant but retarded at the same time.

Mystery Solved.  Nothing else to see here folks.

Could be worse, I'll be back on it again in a few weeks

It's not loading off the legendsave file though? It loads from the "Chaptersave" one or whichever one it is it creates when you start the cerberus base mission.
Also, the LegendSave file isn't edited on any subsequent ending playthrough with the same character regardless....

I'd
still like to look into this a bit further, will have a go playing
through the save you put up yesterday - if you put up the LS you've got +
the first choice you tried making, I'll try a different one and do a
direct hex compare to see what's different. Failing that I'll be doing some more ME3 over the next few days so I'll post up a save I'm getting towards the end of...

The legend file IS the save from before the cerberus mission.  Delete your legend file and then complete the game. You will get a black screen and have to close the program.  By all means look more into it.  But from what I can see, its just a placeholder file that they made so that you can "build on your legend" with exrta filler content DLC before the final battle.

Well TSA, just wanted to say hell of a job. I would've given up half way through but you stayed with it until the end. It sucks that the conclusion to this particular mystery is anti-climactic, but it was an interesting experiment! Thanks.

The legend save not meaning anything does not preclude a continuation of the ending.

You are right, there is also a much easier test: rename any save you wish to LegendSave, complete the game, and you are there. Quite interesting to try the different endings to just use an autosave that was created after talking to the Child.

They may not even bother makign another agme due to the reaction folks gave for ME3. Anotherwords, since you all complained over osmehitng they specified they wouldn't change then no more ME games...though I also understand there already is plannign for another game.

Agree. Importing saves between games also doesn't involve any specially designated file - just the one created after completion of the campaign. In the context of IT it could even be Restart Mission: Citadel Return. The EC would just modify the environment around the beam.

Actually it's not true that the game doesn't save your final choice!

If you rename the NewGamePlus save to Save_0099 (or something in that format), you can load it and it basically shows you the cutscene right after your final decision.

The LegendSave is clearly the one it makes right before you go after Cerberus; i.e. the 'point of no return' save. It doesn't get modified at any point after that as far as I can tell.

The NewGamePlus save is updated every time you complete the game on that character.

Sorry if this is info everybody already knew! I didn't read the whole thread!

That is 100% accurate.
I corrupted 1 of my save files and the LegendSave was not present in the character save, therefore after the stargazer scene I just got a black screen and I had to go to  the dashboard.
