If you copy it, rename the copy and load it up, what happens? It's not just the save from before you assault the cerberus base is it? And what is ChapterSave?

Just tried it.
It does reload to the same point, BUT the savefile doesn't match, there's a whole load of data that so far I can't see the meaning of that's different between the autosave and the LegendSave that's created after the ending...

Hmmmm interesting.

Maybe it's a way for Bioware to record who chose what endings? Like how they had statistics about who died most often on the Suicide Mission ect?

Idk. :P

Can you fly off and assault the cerberus base again?

It could possibly just be there for the purpose of the game having data for knowing you've already beaten it. Who knows, if it brings you back to the same point as the save after you beat the game, then it could literally mean nothing.

Which would still be neatly interesting as it would tell us what data's being saved to send on to DLC ^_^

I'm not sure that'd be the point. It could just be a "stat tracking" kind of thing, to know what ending your Shepard ended the game on. Any DLC that is affected by that would have to be after the ending, and at that point the purpose of that save file would be meaningless because as far as we know, the only ending that allows Shepard to live for post-ending DLC is Destroy, but that's getting into IT territory.

I thought this was the save used for NewGame + because it keeps data such as weapons purchased etc.

I heard the legendsave is made if you had the destroy breathe scene, can Any confirm or deny this?

I was about to come on and tell you that was wrong, but my LegendSave hasn't overwritten since I got the "breathe" scene (tried going back through the ending sequence to see the other endings & record fraps).
You'll notice that in the screenshot on the previous page the LegendSave was created on the 24th.
Well, I went back through and tried choosing "Synthesis" and it overwrote NewGamePlus and autosave but not LegendSave.

Can anyone else confirm?

Interesting actually... Someone else needs to do a whole new game (with no legend save) and see if it in fact makes a legend save file. That would confirm it indefinitely.

Started one yesterday from an ME2 save game downloaded off MEsaves.com

Shall gun through it tonight and tomorrow if no-one can confirm yay or nay to this.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I chose Synthesis on the first try and went back and repicked Destroy about four days later - my LegendSave seems to have been generated the day I FIRST beat the game, and was not overwritten when I redid the ending. NewGamePlus was overwritten.

So, it seems it's generated whenever you first finish the game, no matter what colour you pick.

I wonder if it's a statistic thing like someone pointed out earlier, maybe EA/Bioware gets data from the save that tells them what ending someone picked the first time.

If I had to guess, Legendsave would be your post ending save that takes you back to directly before Sanctuary, is that accurate?

I would assume it's for the EC.........

I can't understand why anything would be for pre-ending DLC.

It's too early for a new game planning......

Which is interesting, because it's from before the EC was ever announced ;)

Interesting.

Hudson has stated that there will be no games after 3, only prequels.

Perhaps it will use your save data to determine content in the pre-ending DLC? I don't know.

Actually they said this is Shepards' final iteration, not that this is the end of Mass Effect.Image IPB

Could it be for *origin* to data mine?

Not "bad news" - just interested to find out what it says - makes it damn difficult to compare as there are so many variables in ME3 that finding two people with "the same" game is nigh on impossible, and locating the "ending" variable from amongst the potentially thousands that may be different is a hell of a task.

In addition to which, I got this message from one of the several people who have so far sent me LegendSave files (Keep 'em coming!):
"Alright, I'm lost. Choosing a different ending isn't overwriting the
LegendSave but if I delete it first, the game freezes right after the
Stargazer scene. I'll have to look into this some other time."

So it would appear you get one LegendSave per character and that's your lot... Could always change the local files and resync from origin, or something like that, that'd probably work, but it's more effort than I'm going to go to with all the stuff I have to do this week.
Still, interesting that they're keeping our first choice at all - to me, that hints at the "experiment" idea of IT (why else even make it?), but I'm sure half the forum will disagree so let's not go there right now

Don't dig too deeply, last thing we need is BW getting pissed off and changing the EC because someone cracked their plans.

On the contrary, I would assume it's NOT for the EC since this wasn't planned when they first made the game.

I would tend to say the Legendsave is merely a normal save, after you've beaten the game.

EC was always planned, the plan to make it free was relatively new though.

If the "breathe" scene will be required for any additional closure scenes to trigger (LI/crew reunion), then that will just magnify the fail of the SP EMS issue. Ohhhh dear...

In that case why can't you load it like a normal save, it's not visible on the load screen.

'Tis true. I remember being in awe of that tweet and not having the presence of mind to screen grab it.
