I am not sure if its the Uncanny Valley effect or not, but I think ME2 looked better and at the same time I think ME3 had more detail in stationary parts of the game.

I thought that ME2 came off more polished graphically than ME3 and that made little sense to me except that they cut corners there for some reason.

ME3 mostly looked fine, and I definitely prefer the Alliance Normandy. I just wish that all possible characters hadn't gotten beat by the fugly stick.

I would actually give the nod to ME3 although I do have to agree with Cyne that ME2 was the more polished of the 2.

I think on a technical level they're the same, maybe ME3's lighting is a little better. But ME2 as a whole looks better to me because of interesting locales. ME3 is missing "weird" locations. Everything is either a differently colored Arizona or inside sterile buildings. Thessia and Geth collective were pretty interesting, but there were too few examples like that. ME2 had so many different and varied locations, even if you were in some of them for just 5 minutes. Hopefully the new SP dlc throws something interesting into the mix.

I thought ME1 and ME2 had styles that were more unique to Mass Effect.
ME3 looks very similar in style to other games I've played.
I'm not saying that the graphics are better or worse. But that jumped out at me immediately....

I'd say they were about the same, but some aspects were better in 2. I do prefer the graphics in 2 because it was kind of 'brighter', all the darkness in 3 makes it a bit depressing and oppressive, imho. The Normandy design, imho, is a lot worse in 3 - in 2 it was nice, clean and tidy, in 3 it's a complete mess.

I cant explain you how much more i liked a complete mess then nice, clean and tidy. Especially not knowing where your squad members are every time in the ship. It felt they have a life of their own.

Overall, id give props to me 3 altough i liked me2 graphics as well, in me 3 it just felt more fluid.

i also think that ME2 had better graphics then ME3. was a bit surprised when i started the game and saw how low the resolution are. clearly indicator that it was rushed. especially for the pc you really expect better graphics.

Face and skin textures in ME3 are so splotchy and pasty and pockmarked like other people have been saying. I wonder if this is more of an issue for us playing on PCs at 1920 x 1080 or higher? It was like they were shooting for more realism with adding defects to peoples faces, but got carried away. I preferred ME2 graphics, even though I think the environments are a little better in some areas of ME3.

I liked ME3 more, especially because in the "open" environments there was always something going on in the background so it felt more "alive" to me than 1 or 2.

Otherwise Graphically speaking They were about even to me, with ME3 winning out a little bit more due to brigther lighting in most circumstances

Poorly compressed low resolution textures are the biggest problem for me, however I still think ME3 is the better looking game.

I think mass effect 2 had great graphics and awesome facial animations, I really liked some of the details like when Shepard smiles and smirks, or gives a look with the eyes....

I don't know if it's me or it happens a lot less in ME3, mass effect 3 lacks consistency with the graphics sometimes they look amazing other times they seem less polished

I love both, but I think Alliance Normandy SR-2 > Cerberus Normandy SR-2

I'd say I liked ME2 a little better graphically. My biggest complaint with ME3 was the amount of lens flare. I hate lens flare.

The art design looks quite different than ME2. Everything seems a lot more darker and less bright.

If we take animations into this discussion then yes, ME2 is better.

The graphics are better in ME3, but the facial animations are a big step downward. Joker, the non-indoctrinated Illusive man, Conrad Verner, Miranda, and Kelly Chambers all look pretty bad in design.

It has nothing to do with graphics. Team mates like Vega look far more defined and polished compared to something like Joker or Miranda, and it is not because they run on a seperate gaming engine. I can ignore it though considering how much longer this game is compared to Mass Effect 2 and how much time they spent with connecting all of the plots. Even without dlcs, Mass Effect 3 feels much longer than ME2.

I think ME2 edged out ME3 just a bit in graphics (mainly in textures and animations).

Whatever Bioware does for their next IP, I'd suggest they go with fully mocapped convos and animations.

More expensive, but the bump in quality would be phenomenal.

Give me ME2 graphics and animations any day over this ME3 garbage.
