So, use your imagination and make it happy ending
Anyone else disturbed by Leliana's epilogue?

Well, isn't it said that the spirits of the dead return to the Fade upon death? Mages can enter the Fade, where demons, the spirits of the dead, and other spirits both neutral and benign reside. The Gray Wardens recruit mages, and don't particularly care what sort of magic they practice. It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch that the Wardens could determine the fate of their sacrificed comrade.
I haven't seen the epilogue being discussed here, since I haven't chosen to sacrifice myself yet. I have a character I plan to do it with. Maybe I'll have him harden Leliana first to see what effect, if any, that has on the outcome.

I do agree, though, that 'romantic' suicide (I don't think suicide is romantic at all, I should note (although I think it shoiuld be obvious), but I would bet money on Lel thinking it is) is up her ally (if unhardened). Her vision could be true or it could be false, but as you can tell Ali: 'I believe she believes'. I wish she didn't/wouldn't, though. I imagine that there's very few Warden's out there romancing an unhardened Lel that would want her to kill herself in the memory of them. I mean... owch. That's a heavy dosing of guilt, even though it's all on her, not you.

OK...never...and I mean NEVER post things like that again. EVER. Or I will track you down and kill you.
That's just too damn sad and depressive. More than all the saddest DA:O ending combinatiosn combined.

IF there is an afterlife and IF Mayat's soul is not in fact destroyed and IF she sees Leliana again, the dear bard would definitely get a "What were you thinking?!" earful. Though to be fair she (and Zevran) would have something of a right to be mad at the Warden for not telling her (him) about the upcoming sacrifice when in a romance. That could have been an interesting conversation. Too bad it isn't in the game.

Actually, the Maker told her that the hero is returning in the sequel.

Seriously this looks somewhat too real... Try to imagine being that person's relative or friend, would you want that photo to circulate the internet?
On topic: I always had the impression the beggining of DA2 might involve the Fade and possibly Leliana after seeing her epilogue... Ressurection might be optionable but probably not forced on you.
Never really thoght of Lel as suicider - at least in RL suicide is extremely rare among very religious people and unhardened Lel is basically a fanatic (imo), however we're never given Chantry's or Maker's view of suicide

How do you know if a character is hardened? I had Leliana at +100(Love) and got the same epilogue the OP is talking about.
When doing her personal quest and she was worrying about whether she really left her old life behind or is a bad person for enjoying the hunt and kill, did you emphasize that she is a good person and different from Marjolaine, or did you tell her to embrace those feelings and ditch trying to be a good Chantry follower? The second approach is what "hardens" her.

I completely agree with you, Korva! This is one of the things I really wished was in the game (and to be honest, in my first playthrough, after having that bombshell dropped on me, I expected to be able to talk to my romance option about it. But nothing - not even any wistful 'let's spend the eve of the battle to end all battles together, because either one of us could die' scene. (Then again, I also expected there to be some sort of fallout if you were a male and chose to accept Morrigan's offer yourself despite being in a relationship with Leliana - perhaps that's included in future content). In this, at least, it seems the 'secondary' romances (secondary in the sense that the romance isn't tied directly into the plot) were shortchanged - since you can talk to both Alistair and Morrigan after finding out about the 'catch' if you are in a romantic relationship with them.
Regardless, the 'suicide' thing (if that is what the reference is - i still choose to believe it isn't) does irk me. If my character chooses the sacrifice option, it is because they want those they love and care for to be safe and to be able to continue to live their lives without the threat of the darkspawn/archdemon. Having the one person you care about above all others kill themselves runs counter to the whole purpose of your character giving their life in the first place.

Well at least one of the romancable characters actually cared about the player.
Duty? She didn't exactly go off to war.. she just used the player and threw him away when she got what she wanted.
Depending on how the PC interacts with Morrigan she can fall in love with your character. Being Morrigan she won't say "I love you,' or gush over the PC the way Leliana does, but she makes it fairly clear in some of the later dialogue that she has fallen in love with the Warden. Unlike Leliana however she doesn't know how to deal with it all, and seems to be in a lot of emotional pain. (knowing her plan all along is to leave at the end)
Morrigan also gives the character a ring which she said Flemeth gave her, so that Flemeth could find her anywhere. She has altered the ring so that she can find you anywhere, if you are captured or fall into trouble. In one of the dialogue options you have in response to her gift, you can ask her if it can also be used by you to find her. She states that she does not know, but that in theory it should link you both in some way. Later in the Epilogue after Morrigan leaves, it says that the Warden wakes up one night swearing that he sensed Morrigan thinking about him through the ring, and that she was full of sadness and regret.

If you talk to her before this she'll still dump you (if she's not hardened) but in the end she can't escape the fact she's madly in love with you so just tags along.
Personally I married Anora and went with Sten on his boat to visit the Qunari. Sten, is so far, my favorite dialog at epilogue.
Sten: I have decided to return to my people.
PC: Do you want me to join you?
Sten: You are welcome to, but there are many more reasons for you to stay here.
PC: Well, someone has to make sure you don't lose your sword.
Sten: Funny.
I was laughing pretty hard at that. Lelianna came with us.
What kind of made me mad is that Anora still abuses the elves in the Alienage. Umm... no she didn't. I would have slapped that b**** back to peasantry if she tried that with me as Prince Consort and commander of her armies.

That would be nice, but it is stated in the game that both the Archdemon's and the Grey Warden's souls get destroyed, which would make that impossible.
Oh man, that makes it even sadder. I'm holding out hope that pieces of the Warden's soul didn't get destroyed and we can collect it in the sequel so he/she can get their final rest. Won't happen though.
Speaking of which, how do the Gray Wardens know their souls are literally destroyed in such a way?
They are assuming. Just as they are assuming that the Archdemon is destroyed completely as well...
