I did not think any of the cameos in DA2 looked right. In fact some were quite sickening. Add to that the appearance of dead followers from DA:O and I don't think BioWare put much effort in flags or anything else.

I hope there are no cameos at all in DA3. None. Zilch.

Sickening indeed. Take for instance DA2 version of Morrigan, which thankfully never saw the light of day:

Dear Maker....she looks hideous and why she is wearing a polyester robe.

After seeing that photo, I am glad that the "Exalted Marches" was canceled.

Eh, not really.

It just looks like Morrigan made with silly putty and Mr. Potato Head facial features.

As for cameos, minor characters are fine, but major prior NPCs should largely be left alone unless they're going to have a major role in the plot. This is especially true if we're playing as a new PC every game and cameos have no significance to the new PC anyway. Especially true if we're dealing with any characters like past LIs or other characters that could potentially be significantly involved with the past PC.

I don't think they can do those sort of major cameos without basically writing out the significance of the old PC. And then you'd end up with BioWare hijacking your old PC to shove them in a scene with the major NPC or they'll be conspicuously absent.

I'd love it if old player characters could be playable in small story based sections of the game. That way they can stay relevent to the world and overall story should it make sense for them to be involved and bringing back old characters wouldn't feel forced since you'd be dealing with them as the old PC who has a relationship with them.

Uhm, this is what I was talking about previously. Please do not do that kind of thing Image IPB. Where is Morrigan?

Omg... what did they do to her poor face? And I thought Alistair and Zev got a bum deal! Damn DA2's ugly stick, I swear the only character from DA:O to actually come out better looking than his DA:O model was Cullen.

Wow, that DA2 Morrigan... just, ugh! She fared as badly as poor Alistair. How come Leliana's the only one who got to look normal?

I enjoy a good cameo every now and again, but it doesn't make or break the game for me. Like seeing Nathaniel Howe, I thought "Oh, that's nice for him, he's still a Grey Warden and not so bitter," but if he weren't there and it were some new, different Wardens, I would've been just fine with it.

If you think about it too much it's kind of silly that your friends from Ferelden keep showing up all over Thedas. I mean, I can come up with reasons that Leliana would be involved with the Chantry kerfuffle. And I guess a state visit from King Alistair makes sense, but I still think dealing with Meredith is beneath him. But Zevran just happens to be hiding out in Kirkwall? C'mon!

To Bioware's defense, this is a draft which not only didn't see the light of day, but wasn't supposed to. Showing this version is as unfair as showing an alpha shot and saying it's the final version.

Cullen turned out well. With some work, Morrigan could have too. Or not. We'll never know.

Actually thinking about it, Leliana came out looking pretty much the same as she did in DA:O. But yeah, Cullen turned into a total babe!

Exactly.
I know that's not the final product, if they made Leliana and Cullen great than I'm pretty sure Morrigan was going be fine.

Where the hell did someone get that anyway? Deep in the dark recesses of the PC?

It was hidden in the game files as a .msh, and a modder converted it for all the world to see. It made its first apparition (courtesy of Brockolloly) ten or nine months ago. Since then, it reemerges from oblivion each time someone has to make a point about bad DAO -> DA2 conversion. Then it disappears again until the next time.

It's a bit like Big Foot, only less hairy.

Are there anymore lurking around of previous DA:O characters that didn't make it into game?

After watching how poorly they were handled in Dragon Age 2, I really don't want to see any companion cameos in Dragon Age 3.

They're either...

1: Bugged like Zevran and would never flag properly.

2: Retconned like Leliana  with every choice you made with them waved off completely.

I think major cameos from companions should only be done when you're playing a single protagonist like in Mass Effect. Or better yet, just never see them again in future games using imports.

As long as they don't touch LI possible characters, and killable characters don't make their return, even if they died previously, I couldn't careless if they bring an old character back - cameo, or otherwise.

Hey, Nathaniel looked pretty great for his cameo! As did Leliana!

Bioware seems to be quite aware of the concerns about import flags, so I think they'll do their best to ensure that those get carried over properly.

Personally, I'm not too worried about what the writers may decide to do with certain characters and how they may appear or be mentioned in the games to come. I'm sure there could be some things that would make a bit wistful or sad, but all in all, if they tell a good story, I'm happy. Plus, I enjoy seeing those little winks and nods to previous adventures.

I am not happy with how DA2 characters were handled so will have to disagree with you.

*Phew* That's a relief then Image IPB. Those pictures were really ugly to say the least. Pour Morrigan if she would have turned out that way............

im sure it was just a quick draft, and they would have put more "love" into making her look better, but its honestly hard to say since she didnt get in, and that expression i dont think does her justice either.

Ironically this is one issue where Bioware could harm the game by listening to the fans. We've all got our favourite characters and there are plenty of threads asking to see specific characters return.

In a perfect world, I'd like Bioware to just focus on writing the story for DA3, and then if it makes sense for an old character to be involved, great. If not, leave them out. Don't force a character into the game just because they're popular with the fans.

Funnily enough, David Gaider mentioned in a recent interview that he feels that cameos should only appear in DA3 if they are relevant to the plot.

Hear hear, that is so true. No cameos in DA3 that have nothing to add to the plot/story line then just being there to take a look at. Exeption maybe if they would appear at an orlesian ball and you could talk a few words with them like you did with characters from DAO in MotA. But the lines need to be good Image IPB!
