Hey all. I've been gone for a few days so I have a lot of catching up to do. In the meantime I wanted to bring up a new topic: the Rannoch Reaper.

Has anyone noticed how the camera pulses? At first I thought it was a glitch, but it seems to be deliberate. I'm thinking it could be infrasonic noise. As we know, infrasonic noise is below the range of hearing, but can be FELT subconsciously and as a vibration. Indoctrination signals?

Also, I've noticed that the Reaper's red eye stays lit even though he is supposedly dead, AND the camera angle shows it a lot during the ensuing geth/quarian peace/war cutscenes.

Thoughts, anyone?

Those are vibrations caused by the Reaper's voice. It's the same thing that causes walls to shake when someone listens to very loud music.

I didn't notice the Reaper's eye lit up after it goes off-line. If you mean the moment it talks with Shepard, it's just for show.

I dunno, I still feel its quite likely (maybe definite, even), that the Rannoch reaper is emitting indoctrination signals during that sequence. I also think he is just spewing garbage about preserving organics to set Shepard up for the indoctrination sequence at the end. I find it hard to believe that Bioware would retcon/trivialize the Sovereign dialog in ME1 by changing the Reaper's motivations right at the end.

It might be that the Reaper's voice signal has an indoctrinational component intertwined. On the other hand, it would be strange if no Reaper during the whole game said anything so the devs just chose this one.

Btw, there aren't many Reapers to defeat in ME3 which is a wasted gameplay opportunity.

No I would not agree. Too many dead Reaper would make them feel less threatening. By just having three of them and all of them beeing smaller Reapers and requireing extreme meaures (except for the last one) they dont ruin the dread that follows them.

Still I would not have minded a showdown with Harbinger...fingers crossed for EC.

OK, so at least more cinematics where the fleets destroy capital ships or are wiped out by them.

They both graduated as medical doctors, having been married to a senior psychiatric nurse I can tell you medical doctors have a great deal of contact with psychiatric doctors, they need to especially when medically treating people with psychiatric problems, they have all the information they need to play a mind game.

I don't think Ray and Greg had any direct involvement, but I don't think they'd be against a mind screw.

There is more to Prometheus, but there are so many major moments in the trailers that it seems that they have to show too much to get people interested in it.  Which seems odd to me.

Unfortunantly, I was right on the frontlines regarding the script leak, so ME3 was fairly spoiled; though to me it's all about the experience that makes the magic happen, not the knowledge.  But I'd rather be surprised this time around regarding the EC.  If it's just cutscenes explaining the ending, fine, then I'll either finish my abandoned playthrough or YouTube it.  If it's more than that though...well, I'd rather see most of it on my playthrough and not in some overdramatic action trailer.

^I didn't know about that DJ.  Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Good to have you back!

My thoughts: Looking forward to replaying Rannoch tonight!

But the thing with the lit eye: I was quite disappointed by Thane still moving his eyeballs after he died - or at least I think he died. I know, it's probably the engine that causes all NPC to have a random eye movement for realism, which is cool, but killed the credibility of that particular scene.
While this is probably hard to deactivate manually, I think there were moments in ME3 where red Reaper eyes went on. So the reverse should've been possible, too.

Wasn't around for that (slumming it in the friendlier multiplayer discussions).  Was it some sort of list of people who like the ending as is or a collection of reasons why they liked the endings (both perhaps)?

I was JUST about to post about that. I thought it was interesting. It sounds like if you chose synthesis or control, you DID lose, ie. gave into indoctrination so the game ends. So it sounds like they're giving a little epilogue scene, or expanding on what happens if you 'lose' to indoctrination. That's what I'm thinking anyway.

It was a thread with a list of several links containing supposedly irrefutable evidence supporting the face value ending and disproving IT. An entertaining thread if one is looking for a good laugh.

That may be more in the context of how people felt about the ending, that no matter what they were losing due to the loss of the Relays and the crash of the Normandy (not to mention Shepard's "death").  I can see where all three of them can fit in the endings if they are taken literally and are only extended.  Hackett calling the retreat, EDI maybe arguing with Joker or giving a report on the energy wave, and the VS giving a ground report.

With devil's advocate out of the way, I hope it's a sign that they are doing more than just a handful of cutscenes.

^Oh, so it was one of those threads.  People need to grow up and get a life outside of this game.  Maybe we are putting a lot of thought in this theory, but it's something we do on the side.  These people who complain on how they got physically sick from the endings or get really offended/throw tantrums about lore or whatever...they either need to go find something else to occupy their mind for a while, or they need to get psychological help.  Sorry if that's offensive to anyone, but it just seems unhealthy when it's to that degree.

Yes, my first thought was, too, "Is he talking about Control/Synthesis?"

But I guess they will have to add something to Destroy, too, or this forum goes beserk, even we won't be save here.

"When the player or if the player loses or gets killed it's too abrubt."

The game ending abruplty is certainly true. Now if Shepard loses or gets killed during any part of the game, the game loads the last checkpoint if the player chooses. I honestly don't think he knows or understands how the ending really went down in the game.
