While the IT is well crafted I just don't think it is true. Partly because I believe it would undermine Shepards role in the games and mostly because I believe what the Catalyst says to be true because there doesn't seem to be much reasoning for the Reapers actions otherwise.
In short, I feel like the endings we have right now are completely fine and clear and to understand them you just need some faith in that the Catalyst is actually an ally despite the cruel nature of the cycles. For the Catalyst's plans to work and for the cycles to actually end an organic ( like Shepard ) would have to find the mettle to end up in that control room and in that not be indoctrinated, ever. Not by the Reapers at least. The dialogue in the game suggests this if you believe it's true. I really find no reason to consider anything the Catalyst says as a lie.
Granted it's all speculation, everything, but does anyone agree?
I don't think you'll find anyone here that agrees with that, although we respect your opinion.
If you're interested, maybe someone here would like to outline what we think about the catalyst and why it's lying.
Please, could someone outline that for me?
I'll take a shot at it:
Well one of the first things that tips us off is the fact that he tells us that the created will ALWAYS rebel against their creators. And synthetics will destroy organic life if the reapers don't continue the cycle. Legion was our first clue that synthetics don't all want to annhilate organics. If you did the geth consensus mission, you realize that the geth, while they rebelled, purposefully stopped short of wiping out the quarians. You may have proceeded to broker peace between the quarians and the geth. EDI is another example in the game that we don't need to be protected from synthetics. We can live in harmony.
Secondly, the "catalyst" uses circular reasoning in his argument. Basically, I created synthetics to wipe you all out so you won't be wiped out by synthetics. "Preserved" in reaper form is not saving us from a threat I've already mentioned is very questionable. They ARE wiping us out. To me it would be like saving an endangered species by killing them all and stuffing them to keep in your collection...
There are other clues that make us think the catalyst is being deceitful. On the destroy side, he throws in "you can destroy all synthetics, if you want" and "even you are partly synthetic". If you want? What? We think he's being a master manipulator of words, essentially implying something without saying it outright in order to sway us away from the destory choice. Also, if you have a high enough EMS Shepard lives. So why was the "catalyst" implying something that ends up being false? We think that the ending is an indoctrinatoin attempt, and the "catalyst" is actually Harbinger, messing with Shepard's head, trying to sway him to align with the reapers and give up the fight to destroy them.
Edit: actually I'll correct myself and say that the geth didn't even "rebel". They acted in self defense AND stopped short of wiping out the quarians.
