Oh god, Starbinger saying the Reapers are like a cleansing fire... Trying to make out they are a force of nature, and thus aren't evil.

Sorry, that's bull. Fire doesn't have intelligence or free will, merely obeys chemical laws.

Its as convincing as a murderer using the "It wasn't my fault I stabbed lots of people, its society!" defense.

You ould get deep here. i mean, does "free will" even exists? Every decision you make is simply your brain obeying chemical laws :P

The fact we can go against our nature.  Basically if we're to beleive Starbinger's excuses, we have to accept his admission that he's a very primative synthetic lifeform with no free will.  And thus should be pitied for being less advanced then the Geth even before their upgrades.

So much for them being beyond our comprehension.

"Going against our nature" isn't an example of free will, though.

But anyhoo can't be bothered with this discussion online, so I'll leave it

Erm, yes it is!  That's the definition of free will, choosing what you do rather then obeying instinct!

Goddammit, one last post then. Just definition, not argument.

No, not obeying instinct is an example of intelligence, not free will. Free will means, when given a left path and a right path, you are completely free to choose either.

"In the "High EMS" Destroy ending, the only ending where Shepard survives (shown in the pile of rubble breath scene) is left unexplained. However, in the Low EMS Destroy ending, there is a new scene with a similar pile of rubble in london and a man pulling a helmet from it. This may reaffirm Shepard was on earth the whole time. Unless the crusible is made of stone and rebar."

Found this on ign wiki. What is this? We need vids.

Is it some random helmet or is it Shepard's helmet? But Shepard wasn't even wearing helmet (at least mine wasn't lol)
If it is a random helmet, why is this scene there? On the Low EMS ending and not on the High EMS?
Bah, forget it. I'm done speculating. I'M DONE.

OMG that helmet is in every ending epilouge. It's either laying there or someone picks it up. And it's not an N7 helmet either.

The helmet has the alliance arc logo on it

Like everyone else on earth. Does shepard have a helmet with the arc?

I'm pretty sure he only wear the N7 standard helmet, which doesn't have the alliance logo:

http://images.wikia....3_N7_helmet.png

Exactly. You might be agreeing with me I can't tell, but saying that it's Shepard's helmet is incorrect as they all have the alliance log on them and Shepard has no such helmet.

The helmet is in my opinion just a representation of all the alliance soldiers who died...NOT shepard

Ya but that's not the full coverface of Shepards helmet.

It's a fascinating read.....but one I just cannot fathom:

At the end of the day, I never expected my forces to take out the Reapers. I was undergunned, undermanned and outclassed by a race of sentient machines that had access to technology which one can assume is the sum total of countless 50 000 year cycles of technological evolution.

Of all the endings, Control is still the most appropriate to my canon Shepard.

But to me? Refuse is the human option.

I really don't see how they made these endings so ambiguous.

he is an analyst on the DA franchise. he had about as much input into the endings as i did.

which is to say..none

Oh look, the fans of unfalsifiable fanfiction are still clutching at straws, even though bioware has done everything short of coming out and explicitly saying its false. You guys all look so stupid.

Of course we look stupid, because it's a forum where we can't headcanon things and should all praise EC and telling "GJ bioware!" on every post, or not?

Head cannon is one thing. Pretending its part of ME cannon, or getting upset with bioware for not making it cannon, is what im talking about.

Ugh the fans gave Bioware a way to make one of the BEST endings ever conceived in a video game, and they stuck to their same garbage... I thought DA2 ending was gonna be the last, but EA has once again proved they love destroying good companies.

I was a huge fan of the IT, and it's a shame to let it go, but yeah, I just don't see how the EC allows for it at all. Oh well.

And still you have a "I demand a better ending" bar . Anyway, I won't argue with you. Keep it riendly and calm. Oh wait....it's an internet.

So you're saying the Reapers are without intelligence?

That's the crux of it, if you take the Reaper's word on what Starbinger said then you have to assume they are REALLY stupid or without free will.  Or both.

If they are like fire, and thus can't help but destroy organics, they have no free will.

Its pretty simple, and goes to show that Starbinger is LYING.
